I-85 is back baby!

This is what happens when government gets out of the way, and workers are properly incentivized

According to the GA DOT "NB 85 bridge could open as soon Saturday, SB as soon as Sunday weather permitting. But definitely by Monday AM"
This is what happens when Buckhead realizes people can't get to them.

*Readjusts tinhat*

Lenox mall, alone, or people having trouble getting to the Peachtree road race was enough to get them to jump, let alone the many business meetings, dinners and wine and dining that happens everyday for buckhead businesses.

But good stuff Atlanta. That was impressive.

There's a pretty good list here.

This is such an asshole response, especially coming from someone who doesn't post here regularly. Most people do Google research before asking a question somewhere like this. The point of asking questions like this in a forum like this, in a thread like this is to get personal opinions from a community of users you are familiar with.

Please try to not be an asshole in the future.

Sorry man, I was feeling saucy. I don't actually eat ITP enough to have a good response, so I went childish. Probably all the Silly-Spren hanging about.

Not buffets, but Tasty China is amazing, as is Antico Pizza.

It's cool. I'm feeling a buffet this trip I think. I'll keep those in mind though.

Nori nori if you like Japanese and seafood. $30ish for dinner.

Anyone watching baby driver? Rare to have a movie filmed in Atlanta and set in Atlanta.

So, what the hell is this pink trap house I keep hearing about? Why is it popular and suddenly a tourist attraction?

Apparently it is a marketing gimmick for 2 Chainz latest album.

Never heard of him. But, then again, the only rap I really listened to and liked was Eminem, Ying Yang Twins, and some of Little John's stuff, so I guess Im not the target demographic for this, lol.

That Garth Brooks show at the new stadium sold out quickly and now the only thing left is expensive as fuck re-sell tickets. Fuck that.

You should watch his GQ vids where he goes and finds the most expensive random shit like $100,000 bottled water. Lol

"playing" dumb? unpossible
I used to live in Alpharetta as a kid.

One of the many Atlanta memories I have, was once going over to a friend's house where we played golden eye on the N64. I was playing and had died, so I passed the controller on to another kid who asked, "what button is to shoot?" I said, "the zed button!" Everyone there turned around and looked at me like I had just grown a second head or something.

One of our Indian born friends noticed the shocked look on my face, and said to me, "they don't call it zed here, they call it zee." The kids proceeded to make fun for awhile after. Little shits.

Got into an accident on 400 last week. Car is totaled. Luckily insurance is covering everything but this means it's time to buy a new car with the money from the old one.

Have a few months to look forward to with strict budgeting so at least I'll finally have time to dedicate to my game backlog (oh and my relationship with my wife, also good!).

Oh, I asked about Terminal West a while ago. It's an amazing small venue. Hard to find at first but once you find it the first time I feel like it will be easy to get to. I saw Aaron Watson there last month and this month I'm already going again to see Colter Wall and Paul Cauthen. Seems like the new spot in town for obscure country music acts, but they tend to book all genres.

What sort of accident totals cars moving at 20 mph?

Well if your car is a shitty old one, like mine, and the damage exceeds the cost, it's considered totaled. The funniest part is that there was like zero damage to the car in front of me when my car skidded.

I apologize as I was just being facetious. I hope you are at least safe. You never want to hear about accidents. Was it a puddle and you hydroplaned?

$100,000 bottled water?!?!?!?!

Was that 2015? I remember a lot of rain then.

May have been 2015. Or 2014. Can't recall. Would need to actually go look at historical rainfall data to know for sure but you are probably right.

That sucks. Glad you are at least ok.

Outside of rush hour, there are people who drive over 100 mph in the 55 mps parts of 400. Wouldn't surprise me if one of those hit Boogie's car and got mad at him for it. I had to drive up to Cumming on the 4th and almost got ran over at least 3 times. Mind you, I was doing 70 in the 55 and 80 in the 65 going with the flow of traffic.

edit: I see the poster apparently hydroplaned. That sucks too.

Yea, I can say from experience that if you have an older car, they will purposely look to see if it can be totaled out instead of repaired. Saves them money.

No worries! Yeah, I'm fine and the driver of the other car is fine. Essentially, I hit water and my car's brakes failed on my on the highway hitting the back of the car in front of me, could have been way worse that's for sure.

If you listened or liked Ying Yang Twins and Little John, he's a more subdued version (in delivery, content is still there.)

Also he's working with Eminem on a song I believe (they tweeted at a studio like a week ago).

Finding apartments in Dunwoody that aren't ridiculously priced is a headache.

I... did not know that this was a thing beyond the normal bottled water brands fighting over who is the purest. They said that super expensive one tasted like fruit.. I wonder which fruit. I'll never know because Im not gonna spend $100k on a damn bottle of water if I can help it.

To be fair, I rarely listen to rap anymore, mostly just rock.

You locked in to Dunwoody? It and Roswell are expensive. May wanna check out Peachtree Corners/Norcross instead. Prices are a bit lower still.

Seconding Peachtree Corners.
It's been great living here the past couple of years. More affordable and easy access to basically anywhere in North Fulton or Gwinnett.

Peachtree Corners is a nice area. I live over in Roswell (love that area, esp Historic Roswell), but work over here in Peachtree Corners / Norcross. Like this area too. I tend to hang around The Forum a good bit (mainly for Pokemon and food lol)

Boil-water advisory in effect for parts of Atlanta

Atlanta has issued a boil water advisory for certain areas until further notice, according to the Department of Watershed Management.

Many residents woke up early Thursday morning to find no water pressure in their homes. Areas that may have experienced this include downtown Atlanta to the south including South Fulton County, east to Moreland Avenue and west of downtown.

The advisory areas include, but are not limited to: Cabbagetown, Edgewood, Old Fourth Ward, West End, Peoplestown, Reynoldstown, Mechanicsville, Summerhill, Edgewood, Avon Avenue and South Fulton County.

According to the advisory: “Customers in these areas should boil water for one minute past a rolling boil before using it for cooking, drinking or brushing teeth. Infants, the elderly and those with immune deficiencies should be particularly careful. If you have experienced a loss of water at your address, but your address is not within the area described, you may want to follow these precautions.”

The city did not announce the reason for the issue.

At work and the water is absolutely gross.

I'm staying at the Marriott Marquis on Peachtree until Friday. Any recommendations for places to eat or see would be appreciated.

I remember the initial story was the plastic under I85 was not flammable. Maybe it was conjecture. I was rubbed the wrong way with them trotting that homeless man out for charges. That plastic isn't benign.

http://www.myajc.com/news/public-af...-georgia-other-states/I7GnXPAL0VbCpCB1Y87rnJ/

For decades, architects and developers have put cheap, highly flammable wall panels on the exteriors of multi-story buildings.

A four-story drug and alcohol treatment center in Atlanta has them. So does a six-story building at California State University. The panels might be on a 15-floor federal courthouse in Florida and a 33-story Marriott hotel in Baltimore. They apparently cover a front wall and line the dining hall at Clayton State University’s main building.

The glimmering panels can give an aging edifice a space age luster. They help with insulation. And they save money. But sandwiched inside them, between two thin sheets of aluminum, is a layer of polyethylene, the same common plastic that burned hot enough in March to destroy a section of Atlanta’s I-85.

In the aftermath of London’s Grenfell Tower disaster, in which metal composite panels with polyethylene have been blamed for a deadly inferno that roared up a high-rise public housing building, fire experts around the world are questioning if the materials should be used at all.

Should we ban it?

The London inferno, which killed at least 80 people, followed a succession of facade fires over the past decade across Europe, the Middle East and Asia. A casino hotel in Atlantic City went up in flames in 2007, while still under construction.

Still, manufacturers continued to sell their product to developers and refurbishers of multi-story projects. Arconic, the company that supplied the material for Grenfell, warned in some brochures against using polyethylene in taller buildings because of the fire risk, yet in other promotional materials showcased high-rises it said sported the panels.

Arconic now faces a class-action lawsuit from its stockholders, which a company statement described as “meritless,” calling such securities cases “a predictable follow-on from tragedies like this.” The investors allege the company knowingly marketed the material in Europe and elsewhere for inappropriate uses.

Berlin’s fire chief has said he’ll ask German lawmakers to bar the material. United Arab Emirates took that step early this year after a series of fires there involving cladding on high rises.

I thought it was a good thing to discuss. Guy shouldn't have been starting fires but we also shouldn't be storing this under interstates or anywhere with significant infrastructure.

That fire went up and collapsed the interstate within an hour. I know people need to make money and save a few dollars but the blame has been misplaced and the London tower fires give more evidence.

Thoughts on where to get last minute eclipse glasses? Our office building was going to hand them out to everybody but apparently they called off because they were worried the glasses they ordered were fakes.

How are things looking for Atlanta in regards to Hurricane Irma?

I was planning on flying back home to Atlanta tmrw from Chicago while I have the next five days off from work, but I learned earlier today that my flight got cancelled.

I was thinking about maybe flying into Nashville or Charlotte and then driving down to Atlanta, but is that even feasible? When might be the earliest that flights may be able to fly into Atlanta? Tuesday, Wednesday, or later than that?

Monday - Tuesday will be gusts of 40MPH across most the metro area. They say about 7 inches of rain. You're probably looking at Wednrsday at the earliest.
