Audiosurf on Steam NOW! Feel the waves.

Steamworks should tell them that.
Hell, their server data should tell them that.
:lol I can just imagine the press release.

AMAZING SALES OF AUDIOSURF SET SERVERS ABLAZE! .... LITERALLY!

What kind of bonus do you get from avoiding all the grey blocks with mono ninja?
I think it's 30%. Should say if you hover over the little bonus thing.

The latest from the Steam forums:

Dylan said:
"The server is back up so we'll see how this goes--we're planning further server upgrades soon. For now, dethroned emails will not go out, and also on the high score boards you'll only see scores for the league you just played in."

"Yeah it is right on the edge of holding. Server guy is working on adding more capacity ASAP."

"Yup it's still strained and we're trying for more upgrades right now."

"...one thing I'm working on now for the next update is to have the scoreboard come up very quickly (whether it's empty or not due to server load) so you can at least hit continue and get on your way faster"

"When the server is down, no scores are saved. Update is being put in now and will hopefully be done soon."

It's obviously way more popular than they thought it would be; it also makes a great poster child for small/indie games on steam. But I assume he just wants them to release a number to use for sales-age comparisons. :/

I got 30k PPM on some song, but I can't remember what it was... it was one where I wasn't even trying, though, and I was playing on casual pointman mode.

Take your assumption and go fuck yourself with it.

I'd like to see how successful this indie game is with pretty much only word of mouth and with limited availability.

i remember seeing audio-surf.com on a computer screen during the 1up show 2-3 weeks ago. looks like they were waiting for beta 3 like the rest of us. i wonder if they plan on covering it sometime.

Ok, I bought it and I'm still not sure how it works with the music. I mean, if I play a mode where there are different-colored blocks, which ones are in time with the music and which ones are not (apart from the grey blocks, of course)? Because it seems unlikely that they all are. So I've just been playing the mono character with one color, and from the songs I've tried it's pretty much like the previous games I've played where the game is generated from the music, ie sometimes it seems to be in sync with the music, other times there's some strange rhythm going on that I can't figure out at all. But in general, it seems to work pretty well.

It's a nice way of experiencing your music, but apart from what I mentioned above, there are two things with this game I don't quite like. First of all, from what I can tell there's no way to listen to the music before you actually choose it.
And also, why do I have to connect to the server to compare my scores after every song I've played? Isn't there a way to simply turn that feature off? Because I couldn't care less about it, and it takes like 10 seconds everytime I'm trying to connect. :/

I bought without even seeing it in motion (just a picture) because it looked like Amplitude and people said you could use your own music.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but this game is confusing as hell and has not been that much fun to play. So I'm trying to make as many matches of the same color as I can, but for the songs I've been playing, there haven't been enough blocks to get more than 4 or 5 connected because they disappear too quickly after being linked. And the blocks, what do they represent? A snare hit? A tom? A synth beat? I don't "get" the experience. :/

That, and the fact that none of my downloaded iTunes songs work. Aren't they supported? m4a?

The blocks will continue to stack past 3 as long as you're continuing to grab blocks. If you fail to grab a block within a certain time period, any matches you have disappear.

That's not the only mode though, the other mode (MONO which seems most play... i hate it) which you dodge grey blocks and only collect color blocks. No matching required.

There's an option to decode itunes songs, I haven't tried it so I don't know if it works. EIther way that's apple's fault, not the games.

Pretty shitty tutorial then, this isn't explained. And some songs are too slow and don't have enough blocks to create large combos.

Well that doesn't matter now does it? You're not competing scores between songs.

Audiosurf isn't a rhythm game, so don't expect all the blocks to line up with notes or anything. The track is formed to fit the music, with some of the blocks going to certain aspects of the beat and that's really all you can expect from it.

... I must be misunderstanding your question, because wouldn't you have already listened to your own music collection?

Someone posted above that they're going to be fixing this in an update.

Sorry about that, I didn't even check who was said it. Guess that just proves what they say about assumptions true. :(

I played Joe Budden's World take over, and it was my first time running into one of those ridiculous curves. My goodness. I hit like every gray block in that turn. I just got 65k on dumb out in Pro mode. I'm going to try World take over in ninja mode now.

Edit: My name is my Gaf name, Oldschoolgamer.

i agree that a preview track would be a very nice option. I for one have 150gb of music and I can't remember which track is which a lot of times when it's part of an entire artist's collection.

Also, a bigger game could be made with albums and not just individual tracks. I wish there was experience and stats as well that carried over between games as I am feeling pretty empty after finishing a song. Some sort of metagame would help a ton. Good start though.

oh yeah, lastly, i got through a track in ninja mode and never hit a grey but I didn't see anything happen at the end out of the ordinary, is it supposed to at least give me some sort of award or something?

I'll buy this the second I get a chance, the demo was so awesome.

I can't wait until I record moby dick with my microphone, I'm sure that will be a blast to play.

It gives you a 30% bonus.

Using F-Zero music is so awesome in this game.
Wipeout works too, like Sasha's Xpander.

BTW, if you have the Valkyrie Profile soundtrack, there are a lot of difficult songs in it. "Delusional Extremities"(Disc 2, Track 2) is a straight downhill drop with a traffic of just over 400.

Dammit. *starts up audiosurf again*

Have you tried the Portrait of Ruin Soundtrack? Some of the songs on this are ridiculous in Pro mode, I can't imagine how they are in Ninja mono.

Oh, OK. That explains a lot then.

Of course, but that doesn't mean I know and remember every song. I have my CDs ripped, but I usually don't name the songs (ie they're still called track 1, track 2, track 3 etc) and some songs I don't even remember what they sound like even though I know their title. To me it seems like such a simple and obvious feature for them to throw in, I was surprised not to find it.

Excellent!

Despite the frustration of the leaderboards/login system continually crapping out - it really warms my heart to see a PC indie game do so incredibly well (most likely thanks to Steam/Steamworks).

Dylan (afaik the one and only dude who worked on it) really deserves all the success, Audiosurf is a fantastic game. Execution isn't necessarily top tier at times (the UI seems lacking, and there are some wonky issues here and there), but man, I really can't stop playing. Huge chunks of time just fly away unbeknownst to me while I ride my music.

Haha, I actually completed "Delusional Extremeties" in Ninja Mono Ironmode for the first time just now.

BTW, does the traffic rating change depending on what mode you're using?

Sounds like it's time to tag your songs.

"Doorway to Heaven", the overworld theme, is up around 380, IIRC, and a bunch of others are in the 300s.

I tried the arranged version of "The Unfinished Battle with God syndrome"

There's a second dev, Beth. Dylan is main programmer, designer, etc. dude, though.

Good question. I'll test it out.

Edit: yes it does. Well, I got a slight increase in Modus's song. Pro = 235 & Ninja = 239

4:39, 261 traffic congestion, Eraser Elite. Over 40k PPM, if there were an achievement for it.

dylaaaaaaaaaaaaan

The two player co-op is really fun. A friend and I just dethroned the Elite high score on "Demon Days" by the Gorillaz by a 30,000 point margin with a Spotlight finish.

Although it does seem a little odd that there isn't a separate scoreboard for co-op.

b9hnko.jpg

BAM. 48755 PPM.

This game needs a replay feature, so you can then save that, use another app to convert it to flv or some other format and upload it!

Apart from that its such a great game. I think i might leave the last achievement like i did with TF2, screw the 10 sentry kills and screw the big kahuna, i got close enough :lol
