It is really amazing that this keeps happening.
i know a girl who went to a halloween party dressed as drake in hotline bling music video. she just did the eyebrows, beard and hairline.
people didn't really have to ask what she was dressed as. don't use that garbage excuse for blackface.
You know that. I know that. But mofos acting like ignorant racist shit needs to take place in America for it to be "racism".
But you are of course correct.
Did Australia have black slaves or otherwise create a system of structural racism.
She looks like Eminem who had a mishap with marker. You can dress up as a person or character from another race without painting your skin. Putting the racial history of it aside, painting your skin will always look bad regardless of intent. If the strength of your costume is based on matching another human skin tone then its a bad costume in the first place. To prove my point
All of these characters are recognizable without the people portraying them painting themselves.

This is all Harry Connick Jnr's fault. He got up on aussie TV and explained how racist blackface is and now Australians seem to think it's cool.
THE SAME ACT THAT WAS DONE 20 YEARS AGO HAS SUDDENLY BECOME OFFENSIVE BECAUSE AN AMERICAN CELEBRITY WAS JUDGING THE ACT.IT WAS JUST HARMLESS FUN BLOWN OUT OF PROPORTION........GET OVER IT !!.
Did Australia have black slaves or otherwise create a system of structural racism?
Disagreeing on both counts.!
It is really amazing that this keeps happening.
Did Australia have black slaves or otherwise create a system of structural racism? If not, I don't see how skin color is a different component of a costume than hair color. It obviously seems wrong in the US, but that's because we have something to be ashamed about in our history. I'm not sure the same is true for every country, feels almost like US cultural imperialism to force the standards of costume on countries with little to no history of racism. Thay being said, I don't know Australias history, so it could be equally disturbing there to don blackface as in the US.
Man I could've sworn that we were starting to get over this shit after we embarrassed ourselves in-front of Harry Connick Jr back in '09
