AUSTRALIAN Wii U Launch Details - $350/$430 [Price guide post #328]

Alot better then I was expecting, gonna be there day one for it without a doubt

That's a decent price. Now to decide on which model I want. Is it confirmed that the premium is black and the standard white? Or are they available in both colours?

Prices aren't too bad, considering the amount of technology you're getting in the gamepad... Especially when compared to the $600ish I paid for an XBox 360 at launch back in 2006.

I'm still 50/50 on it though, really need to get my hands on that controller and try it out for myself to make a decision.

Australia GAF is liking looking into a bizarro world.

Everyone else thinks the 300/350 price is too much, but the 350/430 price in Australia is totally cool.

Its a reflection of the change of the economies in the US and Australia... one weaker than before, one stronger.

Price and date are surprisingly good. How quickly people forget how often we get fucking reamed over here. All things considered, not bad at all.

Lack of interesting games is the issue for me. No Pikmin 3 in the launch 'window' =(

Fucking hell that's so much cheaper then I even dared to dream.

Also.

Choc

Premium comes with a wii sensor bar.

Where is your god now.

Definitely going Premium. Plus I can see JB and EB driving the price down to $399 near launch day.

$999 AUD for a launch PS3, jesus fuckballs

I lucked out, family got a free one a year after launch when we bought a Sony LCD HDTV. There was a huge promotion in Australia, most likely to get sales numbers up.

I am actually gonna stroll to EB in my lunch break and pay the rest off the black console. Try find out if EB have the Zombi U black Wii. I need it. Will grab NSMBU from the Eshop, to try out that Nintendo Premium Network (10% rebate).

Best day ever. Couldn't be happier with the date and the price. I still remember having to wait for the Gamecube in Australia.... so glad we get it this year.

Eh, awful price. Other electronics manufacturers have brought down the price of consumer goods to parity or something reasonably close. Nintendo should follow suite.

Prices are great. Only $30 more than the Wii for Premium? I'm happy with that.

I'll probably still wait a while till I get one though. There's a couple of launch window games that look good, but not quite enough for my purchase. Maybe by the second half of 2013 there'll be enough incentive for me.

Was I hallucinating in last nights midnight trip through heaven, or, was there a Zombi U themed limited edition Wii U incoming? I put my preorder down for that, should there be one in AU.

Does anyone know any more about this? I swear it was real.

I got my EB to price match that shit. Or maybe it was the Big W? I don't remember exactly. Pretty sure I snagged it for 288 instead of 349 though.

K-Mart was $288 for the first week - I got it for $274 with staff discount.

Pretty competitive seeing as their cost price was $298.

I remember that promotion. They must have moved a lot of Sony Bravia TVs.

I imported from PlayAsia for ~$450 when the AUD had it's first surge to around 0.95USD in 2007/08. That price was amazing compared to the local price.

For reference:
XBox 360 currently RRPs for $399 (250GB slim, non-kinect) and PS3 for $429 for the 320GB/$348 for 160GB.

Other launch prices in Australia:

PS3: $999
360: $649
Wii: $399
XBox: $649
Gamecube: $329
PS2: $749
Dreamcast: $499

Mother of God...I wouldn't even game if I was living in AU. Those prices are damn near depressing.

I distinctively remember hearing;
"And we have a ZombieU WiiU Bundle for you." Or something along those lines.
I also would like information on that.

I think it's a great price, but I honestly cannot think of one reason why I would buy a WiiU. Not a single one. Obviously this means I'll buy it at launch anyway but I won't like it!!

Cheaper than the Wii RRP which is good. Won't get it until it drops sub $250. Bought the Wii full price and kinda regret that now seeing as how I never used it.

I'm conflicted now on if I should by an Australian WiiU or import as the actual console price seems reasonable, but I'm sure we're still going to get screwed on game prices.
And the 10% back on digital downloads won't mean shit if prices are already close to double US prices so it would be cheaper to import.
I need more details about whether the system is region locked, or if I can download US games from a US system and not be blocked by IP, that will probably make my decision for me.

If it's anything like their track record for the past 5-6 years then I expect Wii U to be region locked and that you should be able to download US games on to a US system regardless of location. The only issue is that it is likely that you will need to use an American credit card or equivalent unless Nintendo allow other forms of purchase i.e. PayPal. They won't accept two of my cards for my US 3DS, so I've had to pay for prepaid cards.

Then there is the warranty issue. It's a healthy reason why I've never imported a console despite the price discrepancies and the bullshit that is region lock.

Lol, EBGames have the games listed at $108. Yeah....

Looks like JB will be getting my business.
After importing Tekken Tag 2 for $40 or whatever, i want to go into an EB and pick up a 360 copy and a WiiU copy, take them to the counter and see if they can explain which one's better =P.

Hmm, so when I do eventually get a WiiU, I'll get the Premium Pack, but... my two Wii Remotes are both white and aren't motionplus. So that means that I'll be buying:

WiiU Premium Pack
2 black Wiimote Plus' and nunchucks
NSMBU
Pikmin 3

Which at full price would be around $830... With price-shopping I'd probably get it for maybe $700-ish, but still... and then there's games like Wonderful 100 and Game & Wario that look good too!

I'm more worried about the digital content, hopefully there will still be an option to change region to uk so we don't miss out on games

EB also had $600 on the Wii U price.

Believe nothing.
Well, their console prices are correct.

I don't doubt their games won't drop below $99, though. At least they price match I guess.

Also forgot about ozgameshop! A godsend.

Was expecting $450 w Nintendoland pack in and maybe $400 without. Impressed by the prices but I'll try to hold off getting one until there's games I'm interested in because the Wii at launch burned me bad.

Are people going to preorder? I know we usually get good details a week or two before launch but I remember how much of a race it was to get a Wii console before it sold out here <_<

Thanks OP for reminding me how much of a bloody rip off the 360 and PS3 are still in Aus.

The WiiU price is much better (if only for the fact that you get a console that is around as fast as the others at least but you also get a screen on your controller).

Better price. I thought at least $500. I'll do as always, purchase hardware from oz, order games from uk.

Yeah I thought about $500 too. I'll probably do exactly the same thing. Hardware here, games - UK.
I refuse to pay $100+ for a game. I can't believe people actually shop at EB.

The fact that games are available so cheap from the UK now means that the need to import from the US is lessened.

Yeah, the last game I imported from the US was Ninja Gaiden Sigma.

Edit: No, wait, it was A Crack in Time.
