This is why you need to shut the fuck up already. You highlight your stupidity in every post. Cameron's last Sci-Fi movie was TERMINATOR 2, not The Abyss.

Also, The Abyss didn't bomb, it just didn't make as huge a profit back as every other film of his.

To re-iterate - this is Cameron's first Sci-Fi since T2.

I think all of you need to shut the fuck up until Cameron shows something out of Avatar that doesn't look like an outdated Hallmark attempt at a scifi miniseries.

Haha, is that a joke? I was just mentioning how everything from Avatar seemed to come out of the late 80s, but maybe Cameron is taking that more seriously than I thought! :lol

you came out of the late 80s. :p

The toys look like they're from the late 80s or early 90s.

I can't believe a new James Cameron Sci-Fi is coming out this year. Its actually happening. And we will get a trailer soon to boot.
Every time you or MarketSaw says that, the trailer is delayed a month.

6 legs! WOW

The additional limbs truly highlight the alien nature of the creature. It definitely is NOT just a blue horse.

You got me, I thought Abyss was sooner than that. According to IMDB, it made 54 Million off of a 70 million dollar budget, so yeah, it kinda bombed, sorry. But T2 certainly didn't, obviously.

Sorry, I don't remember the specifics of releases 20 years ago, the last time Cameron's name was relevant in Science-Fiction. Again, Lucas had 20 years between Star Wars IV and I, and we saw what happened.

Yeah I reckon those things (DieHorses or something if I remember) are going to look awesome - especially with Na'vi riding atop them.

That's an awesome name.... DieHorse...... maybe it's time for you to ride one for yourself to see how awesome it is....

Again, apart from that, why are you comparing Lucas to Cameron? One is proven a good writer AND director, where as the other is not. I don't care what anybody says, RotJ is weak.

Everyone hating on Avatar seriously need to take a chill pill. It's James fuckin Cameron every movie he's ever made has been above average to fuckin awesome. You guys are judging this movie based on screenshots and toys, last I heard videogame screenshots and toys don't determine if a movie will be good or not. The biggest indicator of whether a movie will be good or not is the director. And James Cameron is probably the best action director of all time.

so our glimpses of this universe have so far been some uninspiring game visuals and some plastic toys in bad lighting. would SOMEONE PLEASE RELEASE A FUCKING TRAILER! :lol

I feel like I already have watched the whole movie with all of these toy reveals

I hope nothing else is revealed during comic-con because then that would be showing TOO MUCH.

RotJ is pretty bad. But so was Dark Angel. Lol.

TV and film are very different things. He did one ep. Keep going ducktroll.

In regards to the 'zebra' I don't remember zebras having concave necks or 6 legs.

He created the concept, he produced it, he wrote for it, and he directed the finale. If Dark Angel had turned out really well, you would no doubt be singing its praises about how James Cameron is awesome and this is a great example of how everything he writes and directs is awesome and amazing. But since it turned out badly, "TV and film are very different things" is what you say. It's obvious you're a blinded Cameron fanboy who will defend his every mistake, while emphasizing on all his greater achievements. Do you deny that?

THX-1138, American Graffiti, and the original Star Wars are well directed and written, and any movie coming off of those would be highly anticipated. I've said here before that I have no doubt that the movie will be well directed. I do have qualms with the writing. I've read the damn scriptment that a producer is quoted it sticks to. I'm not impressed at all with it. When all we hear is how amazing everything is supposed to look but them pointedly not showing anything is suspicious. I said so, and I don't believe this is going to do anything amazing at the box office. 5 months to go and no expectation that we're going to see anything soon is unheard of for a 300 million dollar movie.

And then we get a mediocre teaser poster, game shots that look like Halo, concept art that looks like generic covers of sci fi novels at the grocery store, and then today toys and character designs from 1989. Not sure why you brought up RotJ, but everything we've officially got from Avatar is weak.

I've said before and I'll keep saying until this movie is gone. I WANT IT TO BE GOOD. If I'm wrong I'll gladly say so, buy the damn poster and take a picture of myself in front of it. But come on, there's faith in a good director and then there's faith that Jesus is coming back. I can only stretch so far.

no, i don't deny that..

You got me ducky; and you're right, Cameron isn't as good as I've been saying all along

Pfft wrong. I never even watched Dark Angel because I thought it looked shitty. What I'm saying is that it has no measure on his ability as a filmmaker.

Those are some of the shittiest toys I've ever seen, and the box art isn't anything to get exited about either. I really hope we get to see some footage, either officially or someone taking one for the team.

Also, a 6 legged horse? That's just retarded

Robot Chicken totally needs to come back to do their own version of the Avatar movie. These toys are begging for it.

fixed.

Why would it have no measure on his ability when he wrote and conceptualized it? He had a huge stake in Dark Angel, it wasn't like he just wrote a 2 page draft and handed it over to someone else. The fact that Cameron has done so few actual movies in his career could very well be a reason why all of them have been pretty good. If over a 20 year period, you work on 5 movies or so, the odds of you having a good success rate would be much higher than if you worked on 10 movies in a 20 year period. Just because he made good movies so far, is no indication that his next one will almost certainly be great, especially since he managed to shit out a crappy TV series during that same period.

By the way, if anyone wants a closer look why i'm so skeptical, it's not because I dislike Cameron or anything stupid like that.

I can't find the original scriptment but here is a cliffs notes version of it. http://jamescameron.blogspot.com/2007/02/avatar-scriptment-summary-review-and.html Having just read it...It's even stupider than I thought. The Avatar thing is far fetched enough...But there's a whole lot of stupid in the last fourth. SPOILERS OBVIOUSLY. It's an old scriptment and there probably are a lot of changes but honestly...

End battle should be cool though.

critch, I've only read the first third of it (years ago), but if you want I can email you the old '97 scriptment for AVATAR so you can make up your own mind, instead of basing your thoughts off of somebody else's review of an ancient scriptment. You have to understand the original is more like a 60 page story outline as opposed to a script - only snippets of specific dialogue.

Considering IMAX seems to have a 160 minute limit...

is 160 minutes enough to showcase the entirety of Camerons vision?

Yeah. According to Jon Landeau (producer) it sits at just over 2.5 hours last we heard. I would hate it if it turned out scenes were cut, considering every one of his directors cuts have been leagues ahead of the theatrical cuts.

Do you think he would release an extended version?

Sci-Fi and Extended editions almost goes hand in hand with Cameron

youtube has just added 3D capablity - maybe just in time for a trailer?

anyway, I don't see the 3D thing still being marketable. While Cameron might be able to actually use 3D to enrich the story, most other movies seem to be using it as a gimmick, and people are already getting pissed off about paying extra for the glasses.

The fake (?) poster:

What's going on here. This movie is on a downward spiral now.

Its just GAF. That poster I posted was a mock-up made by the lead concept artist Ryan Church (Star Wars, WotW etc).

Ehem, we wouldn't want 'accidental' spoiler postings would we now.

Oh. Cool. I was confused there for a sec. I still reserve judgement for this movie.I have no opinion on it, because I haven't seen jackshit.

Wollan said:

He's already read all the spoilers from the review of somebody else who read the scriptment and he seems to at least respect the spoiler warning. I wouldn't post it here obviously, I would only PM.

I'm not sure whether duckroll is being deliberately baiting, but I have to agree all of those toys scream 'aliens' to me, or even the animated starship troopers.

I have no hype for this, which is probably a good thing.

Hey, when is the Alien Quadrilogy coming out on bluray? I feel like buying that and rewatching Aliens now

I for one have hoped for the return of some components of 80s sci-fi action. Have you guys not seen the picture of one of the marines from this movie and his MASSIVE 80sfuckawesome fun. Its about as big as him. :lol
