I don't really think so.
Some friends of mine just watched Coraline on DVD with the 3D glasses and were all pretty impressed. I think they watched it on a ghetto tv too.

ghetto tv:lol

If that is the case than its fine. I was under impression of the 120 hz tvs you might need for that extra clear vision that will be needed for AVATAR.

To do polarized they need 120hz but apparently they've been working on some sort of new technology to make this possible at home. Right now it's just the shitty red/blue glasses.

Any links on this new technology their working on? Could it be ready by the time AVATAR releases on Blu-Ray next Summer?

Coraline was completely amazing in 3D in theater. The only movie so far I'm thankful I've seen that way. It was so impressive and so well thought out with it's 3D scenery that it made me realize how good this kind of stuff can really look. If cameron can only match that, it will be enough to leave an impression - but I'm sure he'll easily exceed it.

DVD and BluRay release of the movie is just with regular crappy red/blu glasses though. I'll try it today just to see what it's like, but I'm not expecting much.

I have literally waited 8 or so months for this day...

Only 2 hours to go

No idea... George Lucas is a piece of shit next to James Cameron.

George Lucas invented Star Wars and Indiana Jones and on the star wars dvd james cameron himself says something to the affect of "I wouldn't be here right now if it werent for George Lucas".

:lol

And the Beatles said Pet Sounds is better then Sgt. Peppers, and Stanley Kubrick said Steven Speilberg is a better filmmaker then himself.

It's called modesty.

and Star Wars is great, but it was better directed by Irvin Kershner... and the new episodes sucks... funny how ironic your argument is when you are calling "Avatar the new Episode 1."

Before The prequels Lucas was the most influential filmmaker ever. Hell he still is. The movie business was completely changed because of him in ways that cannot be underestimated.

In comparison, Cameron may be a better director, and he is trying to be like Lucas in terms of pushing technologies forward, but he would have to work for another 20 years to get anywhere close to what Lucas accomplished with Star Wars, ILM, Skywalker Sound, Pixar, and so on.

And before the prequels everyone was talking about The Phantom Menace JUST like the few hardcore are talking about Avatar. Keep that in mind.

Just watch the original Star Wars and see how awesome it still looks to this day. Lucas will always have a big place in film history but this thread is about Cameron and I don't see how you can compare the situation to episode 1...

George Lucas created two very popular franchises. The films he has directed, haven't been that good in my opinion (cause he is not a director, he is an editor/writer).

Kubrick achieved greater special effects in 1969 with 2001 Space Odyssey, so I don't get the whole pushing technologies forward, especially when comparing him to Cameron who introduced CGi for major effects with Terminator 2.

To your last post, could be said about any thing that is hyped.

According to wikipedia:

In late 2005, Steven Spielberg told the press he was involved in patenting a 3-D cinema system that does not need glasses, and which is based on plasma screens. A computer splits each film-frame, and then projects the two split images onto the screen at differing angles, to be picked up by tiny angled ridges on the screen.

Not sure if that's really developed into anything. It's still limited since it relies on plasma.

That link brought up other unfortunate news I wasn't aware of.
George Lucas has announced that he may re-release his Star Wars films in 3-D based on a conversion process from the company In-Three.
Damn you Lucas. Let them be for once.

two hours left? what's going to happen?

The trailer is...might be shown.
Or
The false prophet Sculli, for his blasphmies, will be liable to execution. He shall be bound, his bones shall be broken, he shall carry the cross and he shall be crucified between two thieves.

And he shall cry, Ah! Cameron! Cameron! Why hast thou forsaken me!

2.5 hours until James Cameron announces Avatar is indefinitely delayed, there is no footage, & insists production is going smoothly regardless.

I can't wait for it to become vaporware.

Damn, I was hoping for more of something along the line of RealD but at home without the need for a 120Hz tv.

Though my Mitsubishi DLP already supports 3d without the need for 120Hz.

45 mins till the presentation starts. There will probably be twitter coverage (lulz) while Cameron and Co. are talking but you can kiss your impressions goodbye while the footage is melting the brains of the audience.

Then, after the presentation ends, the trailer will be online in 3D at youtube. *crosses fingers, toes, and nipples*

I just got a book from the library called "The greatest sci-fi movies NEVER made" and under the table of contents it lists James Cameron's Avatar :lol I'll read the chapter later.

It would be epic if the whole presentation was just Cameron talking, Ubisoft-style. No footage. No screens. Just a "in theaters in December". :lol

Wow. :lol When did the book come out?

SYDNEY, Australia (CNN) -- Young man known as "Scullibundo" from a video game forum on the internet ends it all after action director fails to deliver the goods.

I believe they are going to show twenty something minutes of the film to the crowd.

Remember to make copies if footage leaks.
