KittenMaster said:I actually prefer Green's sprites to RB's with a few exceptions. As a whole the sprites look so fresh compared to the set in stone style we have now and a lot of them have much more interesting poses and dynamic. They're genuinely creepy/threatening looknig too.
Some that do have kanji are also small and completely unreadable.djtiesto said:Interesting to see a kanji font in a Famicom game... most of the games I've seen have strictly kana fonts.
No, those are from Red/BlueGvaz said:edit actually these are from Yellow.
SHIT. The difference is astounding! They were gettin down on the Famicom version! Was that Michiru Yamane?Lucky Number Seven Force said:For a rare audio example, the US version of Castlevania III lacked the VRC6 chip that the Famicom version had implemented. The added sound channels make the tracks in the Famicom version sound better than the ones in the NES version.
Here's the NES version of the Stage 1 theme:
...And here's the (superior) Famicom version
Castlevania III in general had some subtle differences between the US and JP versions, this being one of them:

That's... not charming.Kulock said:This isn't the first time Ristar's name would be changed, as it wasn't even his original name. He was in development at one point as "Feel":

- Version with humans (red blood)
- Version with zombies (green blood, different skin) made for Germany
- Version with dinosaurs (yellow blood?) was made for Australia or something like that, don't remember much about this one.

Or somebody's memory sucked .... or i'm having problems finding ... but all I found was Dinosaurs in the german version of the Carmageddon 64
I think the sprites we got were actually from the Japanese version of Pokemon Blue, which was a super version of the original Red/Green. In Japan, Blue was their "third version" (though I think they also got Yellow) so it had a lot of updated material. Nintendo used that build as the base game for the American versions (although they kept the version exclusive Pokemon split from R/G).Roto13 said:I'm not entirely sure how this worked (I'm not sure if the new sprites were used in Japan before they were used in North America), but the original sprites for Pokemon Red and Green were hilariously bad.

You are either the father or brother of the damsel in distress, because Square thought that America likes old burly geriatrics and Japan likes waify androgynous teens.
