Bad Company 2 PS3 Multiplayer Beta; PC beta early 2010

Less aliasing and screen tearing. Enough for me to make that choice. Even if they both look and play the same, there is no harm done. It's a win-win situation.

I think the m24 is the best sniper rifle because of the design of its scope. It a lot easier to guess where to shoot using the notches below the center.

My accuracy is 44%.

I out sniped a couple of snipers with the carl gustav rocket launcher. :D

You do realize that the current videos of "moments" showing the 360 version has both screen tearing & aliasing. In fact, DICE has stated that there will be no AA on console versions. However, the screen-tearing will most likely be mitigated.

So I have read that the servers are down, however, is this really, "the end"?

Beta was a disappointment, game feels rushed and consolised. I am hoping the sluggish aiming, the weird gun bobbing animation and the bad balancing was only because it was a beta. I want to try the demo out this Jan.

how does this game feel rushed?! And consolized? :lol This game is a fuckin console game. BC1 obviously never hit pc but bc 2 will, bc is more of a CONSOLE bf then anything. :lol

BC2 has a killcam and regenerating health, BC1 had neither! in some ways BC2 is more like PC, in others, it's more console. i was playing BC1 last night and sat an entire game in a bush on ascension, sniping the attackers, and they had no idea where i was. their fault. not that half the people in BC2 care about the killcam anyway...

Well, a killcam won't help others anyway if you are sniping from behind a generic bush.;)
Depends on the level of course.

yeah, the spot on ascension, they'll know exactly where you are, since there's only one possibility.

I didn't mind the killcam at all. When I was sniping I quite liked the thought that people knew where I was and might be coming after me, it added a little tension. All it seemed to do was promote sniper duels, and let's be honest, those are brilliant. There's no better moment than getting a sniper in your scope, knowing that his weapon is pointed right back at you and you have only a split second before he puts a bullet through your head. Awesome.

yeah it promotes revenge snipers, which means more people playing recon. i've had lots of sniper duels without killcams in BC1! plus, sometimes when the person who killed you is killed, the killcam shows a completely unrelated enemy, giving away their position basically for free.

I love it when I play as a defensive sniper and I can see that half of the attacking team is more worried about taking me out than attacking the objectives, that's pretty much me doing my job. Conversely in attack it's a good thing if after a sniper takes you out and you know where they are, you respawn as recon and remove that threat. Then it comes down to which side does the better job: is the defensive sniper so good that they keep racking up the kills and enrage more attackers into respawning as recons, or is the first attacker who respawns as recon good enough to take out the threat immediately? Either way nobody gets a free ride.

As to the killcam glitch of the wrong player being selected, I'm sure that will be fixed before release. Personally I have to say I'm pretty happy with the killcam, I think it adds more to the game than it detracts.

Any words on the Agoc scope being fixed ? It looked like shit when fireing it.
Since the Beta has finished and I have no BFBC2 to oocupy my spare time, I've been reviewing some of the devs' twitter updates. On 15 Dec Demize99 posted "Mmmmmmm sexy new weapon skins. **drool**" so I'm assuming that if they redid the weapons skins they would have done the scopes as well. I know twitter posts are frowned upon but when it's one of the devs it's surely worth mentioning.

Also I have no idea what this represents
it's timing on the cell
but the colours are pretty :D :

EDIT: Looks like the final game will have clan support and the M4.

That's awesome news.

When the hell are we going to see PC footage? :/

And personally I'm looking forward to see if the 5850 will fully handle this game, really hope so. Remember them saying days before the Battlefield 2 release that a 6800 (non-ultra) would be enough for the game in high settings, but in the end it got me and others stuck playing low-medium.

I just wonder if this is a bad omen for a poor-looking PC-version or if it's just all PR strategy? Speaking of which, any impressions of the PC version out there?

Watching "in-engine"(?) screens like this makes you wonder if the Frostbite engine is capable of having *similar* graphics in-game on a very powerful computer:

I'm tempted to call that beta Shooter of the Year 2009. Took a while to get used to it, and some games were just painful due to people spending more time exploiting level up tricks than actually playing the game, but when it worked it really worked. It's also nice with a beta that actually lets you into games, and fast.

I'm suffering from hardcore withdrawl due to the beta closing :D
And mw2 really isn't helping in that department (totally different style of game.)

No prone, and 360 uses dedicated servers too (according to DICE, all there games do).

yea right. All EA or DICE games havent had dedicated servers, EVER on consoles. Until I see my character not walk backwards due to shitty online lag or what not then Ill agree.

You couldn't be more wrong.

You are wrong on so many levels, because EVERY SINGLE CONSOLE BATTLEFIELD GAME has had dedicated servers.

OfficialBFBC2

RT @L_Twin: Guys/girls, we're working together with Valve to get a BFBC2 pre-order program going on Steam, hope we can announce this soon.
I love steam so this is great news though i kinda want a retail box with this one... =/

I can't wait for the PC beta. Any releasedate for the pc-beta known yet?
According to Gamestop, if you Pre-Order the game on PC with them, you get access to the Beta, which starts January 28, ends February 25. Afaik, it's a pre-order deal only. Maybe there will be open beta invitations, but I kind of doubt it, since it's EA we're talking about here.

Edit: I'm pretty sure if it's a pre-order deal only, it'll work on both Steam and EA Store.

It's only for the Digital Version of the game (from GameStop):

Reserve Battlefield Bad Company 2 and receive access to the PC multiplayer beta. Beta begins January 28th, 2010 and ends February 25, 2010. Available for online customers only while supplies last. Not available for in-store or in-store pickup orders.

Online Customers: A beta activation code and download instructions will be emailed beginning January 26th, 2010.

I'd bet that's the "pre-order deal" they're trying to get working on Steam, along with the other ones (for day1 unlocks):

For a limited time, you can get the Battlefield Bad Company 2 Limited Edition for the same price as the regular edition. Supplies are extremely limited. (That's why they call it a "Limited Edition.") So reserve it now!

The Battlefield Bad Company 2 Limited Edition comes with:

* 4 x Vehicle Warfare Unlocks
* 2 x Classic Battlefield 1943 Weapons

Reserve Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and get instant access to the AKS-74 assault rifle for multiplayer action. Firing over 650 rounds a minute, this silent but deadly little beauty will give you maximum pwnage over your friends and enemies. Available for online and in-store customers, while supplies last.

Edit: Looking at that guy's twitter page:
@L_Twin Will we be able to buy the limited edition on STEAM?
@Trizelda That's the ambition.
So yeah, Limited Edition it is. I really hope they do a 4pack, but I'm sure they won't.

so from reading the updates looks like they toned down the arrow indicator color and duration for spotting enemies. im thrilled!

its completely off on hardcore mode though. though i wish they have real bullet ballistics that drops.

The bullets drop.

Actually... in this thread the game has gotten criticism for the bullet drop being too exaggerated.

I don't agree, but I only used a couple rifles for a little while... maybe it's worse in some weapons.

So glad to have HC mode... that is the best news ever.

Yep. Amazing game.

Does any know what those 1943 guns are that the press release is talking about. Please tell me one of them is the M1 Garand.

Edit: Never mind, found it. It's not one of the unlocks. Damnit!

is the hit detection worst or a whole lot better then bf2's sniper rifles?

Honestly... couldn't say.

I only played BC2 for a couple hours, so i'd have to base my comparison on my
hundreds of hours
playing BC1. Unfortunately, it's been a long time since I played BF2 and I don't really recall the issue of hit detection with its sniper rifles you're alluding to...

All I can say is that I feel the hit detection in BC1 was pretty solid. BC2 seems similar, but with bullet drop. SO even though I don't remember that aspect of BF2 too well, I don't think it matters, because the latest games have been pretty good in that regard. Or at least not bad enough to notice.

So... "no worries" is what I'd say.

Maybe someone else can comment. But I don't think hit detection has even been mentioned a single time in this entire thread... as far as it being a negative.

There was a .GIF made from one of the gameplay videos that show a sniper scope firing at another sniper, and you can clearly see the bullet both traveling and falling. I can't find the GIF nor the video of it.

If you can't tell from the video - sniping is much easier after you spot the enemy.
All you need to do is aim at the top point of the spo-t-riangle, and it's usually an instant kill ( or slightly above the head) .

Of course, that's still assuming you're any good with sniping a moving target (I'm not, usually only get a body shot.)

Once you unlock the 12x scope it gets even better:D .

What's with the sniping? You don't even have to aim at the person, just the triangle on top of them? That's a little bit .. odd

Sniping is pretty easy mode. Or at least it was in the beta. The triangle above the head as well as the tracer makes it incredibly easy to calculate the bullet drop, instead of actually gradually becoming more skilled and accurate with a one shot kill weapon.

Don't forget that the whole time you're looking at a target with a triangle marked above his head... the enemy is looking back at the giant triangle over your head.

Also the triangle trick isn't quite as useful as it looks on that video. Bullet drop will vary by distance obviously so if you want to get a headshot (for a guaranteed one hit kill with a bolt action rifle) then you need to adjust for range. The triangle is a useful marker sure, but so are the marks on your sniper scope.

the bullets obey the laws of gravity and drop as they travel, so you have to aim above your target. having a big orange triangle above the opponent's head does make it easier to line up the shot though! most of those shots were pretty far away (note the marksman bonus for distance) so a shot from a closer range would need less compensation for drop.

well, there's always hardcore rules...

I always assumed that requiring headshots to be 1 hit kills are more skilled. Not popping off 1 shot for a kill no matter where it hits.

Better aim and reaction>faster death. I know consoles are a lot harder to do but it's possible. There is a lot of good Halo 3 players.
