BAFTA Video Games Awards 2011 [Nominees in]

Well it simply isn't the best soundtrack last year at all.

I'm not sure about artistic, but the story in BLOPs is in noway worse then anything else on that list. If you don't think to much about it and just take it for what it is, it's solid. It's framed and presented well. It's paced well as well. Look at the competition. ME2? Horribly paced story. Heavy Rain? Incoherent mess that is insults me. BLOPS hardly insults me. Should it win? No, but the hate on it is really annoying. Probably only because it is CoD.

It's not award winning or to be even considered for an award. I agree the rest are not much better. Brotherhood being the best of the bunch, but come on, if gaming is to be taken seriously they need to start awarding the right games, not the popular games.

Black Ops gets artistic achievement nomination but not Bioshock 2? Or Castlevania? Jesus fucking Christ that is just pure ignorance.

True. I wouldn't nominate BLOPs for anything. Still story in games is in it's infancy and I think BLOPs is well done crap. I would personaly nominate The likes of Mafia 2, Red Dead, and No More Heroes 2 over BLOPs, but even those game's stories have major problems.

Still I think BLOP' compliments it's story well enough. It's intirging enough, proviides explanation for what's going on, isn't intursive with the actual game, and is presented in a pretty nice matter.

Well, Bioshock 2's art is pretty much a retread of the first game's art. Soo...

I thought it was artistically better myself. It had a little more pop to it than the original. But we're comparing it to Call of Duty here.

Heavy Rain

Laughable. Some of the other nominees were bad enough, but this? It's like that William Goldman quote about Hollywood, 'nobody knows anything'. This would be like The Room getting a nomination at the film BAFTAs.

Criminal that a turd like Heavy Rain is given the nod over a vastly superior game like Red Dead (as overwrought as that game was).

Neither Bayonetta or Vanquish are on any of those lists. No justice. Some of those titles deserve their positions, though.

Yep, it's sad to see the best action game, the best shooter and the amazing Nier OST not even nominated...some of these nominations are laughable - BLOPS for artistic achievement and technical innovation? WTF?

This is exactly why these awards ceremonies are so pointless. You don't want to grease a few palms or lick a few arseholes? Then your work is ignored.

That's how every major award ceremonies work. Is the Academy supposed to watch and judge the several thousands of movies that are released every year? Same for games. What you're asking for is ridiculous. If a publisher thinks some of their games is worthy of an award they should at least submit it for consideration. Rockstar didn't give a single fuck.

Yes, the game with the real best soundtrack. But whatever, I guess Square dosen't care and neither do most people. Do you have to pay to have your game recognized?

The BLOPS nominations, though saddening, aren't all that surprising... but the one that really irks me is their nod for "Technical Achievement".

What groundbreaking tech is associated with the title that can't be seen in MW2 or even MW?!

Even if there was a single standout feature, and one doesn't really come to mind, this is like giving Madden the nomination for adding Hit Stick!

Better then the last awards show, but there's still some weird omissions. I mean, Vanquish flew a bit under the radar (and of course the only Japanese games are Galaxy 2 and a few handheld titles), but where the hell is Red Dead? And both Heavy Rain and BLOPS seem up for an inordinately large number of awards.

EDIT: Hm, interesting on RDR. There's got to be some kind of story there.

Is there? While I'm not sure you have to pay to have your game a part of it, maybe a lot of publishers don't care. I could see Film BAFTA's and the like helping a movie, but I'm not really sure these types of awards are going to push some more sales. Maybe publishers just don't see the point yet.

Strategy nominees are terrible of course, but much respect for the sports nominees. F1 2010 and FM 2011 are fantastic games.

Please Alan Wake, get at least one win, it badly needs it, I can actually see it taking the original music award. Though I wish it would win best story.

Given what was nominated I wouldn't give a single fuck either.

Nice to see Brotherhood nominated in so many categories.

Also- Alan Wake really REALLY deserves the award for best original music. It had such a phenomenal soundtrack.

I want to list games I love and awards they should not win.

Heavy Rain
-Gameplay
While playing the game was amazingly tense and the form the gameplay took aided that it was really down to the Music, Graphics and the writing.(That as a story has massive problems but narrative is one of the best in games ever)

Mass Effect 2
-Music
If it was 1 nominated there would be no question it should win,
2 on the other hand fell flat in both music and atmosphere while these were the places ME1 really shone.

-Artistic Achievement
See above.

GTA IV was shut out of the awards in 2009, although nominated for several. No confirmation of Award Winning Story pissed them off.

Lots of SMG2 nominations there, I'm glad to see.

But why is Koji Kondo nominated for the soundtrack? It was pretty much entirely done by Mahito Yokota.

If we are talking technically, FFXIII should've been nominated for best original music. I won't even mention Nier cuz I doubt they know what that is, and I don't think it fits with their criteria.

Anyways, GAF's GoTY and OSToTY are the only ones that count. These other award shows and ceremonies are nothing more than a pile of shit.
