It's a charming looking game with good music that is fundamentally flawed on a mechanical level that makes it irredeemable.

Pretty much this. It just overcommits to a few really bad ideas that just undermine everything else it sets out to do.

It's clearly a game aimed at young children, but even then it also completely misunderstands that audience and it's limitations.

I hated the demo, but the case reminds me of nights what I love...
And I did like Billy Hatcher too (please remake/remaster sega)

I've played it. If you liked Nights and Billy Hatcher, there is a good chance you will think Balen is at least a decent game. Just like Nights, you can play as a girl or a boy and the game takes place in a dream world, where you confront and overcome your fears.
