Balrog is greater than Dudley

Unsurprising that the actual best boxer theme goes unmentioned

Dudley seems like the kind of character that mostly appeals to neckbeards who love tired memes
You mean all the people that love yelling "MY FIGHT MONEEYYYYYYY"

I feel like the SF4 versions of both these guys are pretty lame, they could be much cooler. But of what we got, III Dudley = SF4 Balrog with alts > SF4 Dudley > every other version of Balrog (and SFxT Dudley was pretty wack too)

even then, its still lame as fuck.

I didn't like it at first either, but now I get that it's an ultra for boxing fans. Three maneuvers that are illegal in Boxing in a row, followed by a "what did I do?" expression. In the context of Street Fighter though, I can see why it's underwhelming.

I think we all understand it, but it's just not a very good ultra :P

Yep. New Generation had some amazing music.

oh my god no lol

If there is one 3S-SF2 match up that is a blowout it's that one. Dudley is the classiest mofo in the series. The man does the sweet science justice.

The SF2 favouring is stronk, no offense.
Dudley all the way, dude's a gentleman and I find his playstyle more dynamic.

Dudley is a gentleman

Balrog is gutter trash

I'm sorry OP but Dudley is a better character in both character design, personality and gameplay.

So good day to you sir.

ha

Dempsey Roll > Headbutt

Yeah, Dempsey Roll is godlike.

Plus I like Dudley's moveset more.

Man I once saved this mini-comic of Dudley and Karin. They'd be sitting at a table and Karin would ask why he always has his gloves on, Dudley replies by asking her
"Would a line be seen without his mane?"
Or something like that, anyone happen to have that?

Nah, in terms of presentation Dudley has Balrog beat. If they actually fought, I'm pretty sure Dudley would win. He did beat Gill to get his car back in SF3.

I always preferred Balrog's gameplay though.

Dudley seems like the kind of character that mostly appeals to neckbeards who love tired memes and "class".

I always felt that the hyper edgy characters like Akuma and Evil Ryu were more appealing to neckbeards.

Balrog is more of a stereotypical boxer, which I feel makes him a better fit for SF as most of the SF characters are achetypes, while Dudley is more of a deliberate twist on that. I think Dudley is more fun to play though.

Balrog is a worse character in both gameplay design and visual design. His theme is good but Dudley's themes are still better.

Regardless, Balrog is a punk. He's obsessed with what Dudley has: money.

They're both godlike

Too bad Dudley was reduced how he is now in SFIV. 3S Duds is the best. Can't wait to see Rog in SFV.

Also PR Rog won against Smug so Balrog > Dudley.

I think it's pretty clear who the better character is. Dudley seems like the kind of character that mostly appeals to neckbeards who love tired memes and "class".

I like how you said this and then people came into the thread to prove you exactly right.

For the record, I like them both about the same.

I've always loved balrog's crouching roundhouse and standing fierce. so brutal and simple. Just muscle and fists, and reach for days.

also the buffalo headbutt. Look at that hitbox. You aren't going to hit him! He's got a red box covering his head, shoulders, and most of his upper body!
" It cleanly beats N. Ryu's and N. Ken's Shoryukens"

Balrog is an unstoppable force in ST, almost entirely becuase of his super, which is a comically simple barrage of forward punches that covers almost the entire arena and does more damage on block than most specials on hit.

SRK wiki says it best - "Best super move in the game."

Balrog is best.

I think I like Dudley better because he doesn't feel embarrassing to have as representation for my race. It's pretty much the same conclusion my friends came to. It's not a BIG deal, but it matters enough for me to find this thread comical.

I think it's hard to find a racial or national repesentation in street fighter that isn't at least stereotypical, at most offensive.

Balrog is a boxer stereotype more than a black one, I think. It does happen that most of the famous boxers of the late 80s and early 90s were black, and Mike Tyson being the biggest influence on the character.

At least balrog is more likable than Mike Tyson is, right?

Yep

Balrog's theme is unmatched.

His theme is the best of all time because to me it represents a hidden 2nd tier of unplayable elite bosses that I didn't even know existed the first time I played it as a kid.

It's like oh, well I guess I beat all 8 fighters, and then the plane goes to USA and you're confused, and that music kicks in, and balrog destroys you by simply running at you with his fist out.

His theme has a great deal of significance to me because of that experience.

Yes but remember Gandalf returned from the dead with new magic powers, Dudley and his family made Harrys life a living hell until he went to Hogwarts

I didn't like how in SFIV they made Dudley into a generic stiff upper-lip dude. I liked how he was more of an a-hole in SFIII. The cocky, condescending gentleman was a more interesting archetype that made him more at home with the other Street Fighters.

As for who's better between him and Balrog and best fighting game boxer overall, the correct answer is Vanessa from KOF.

He's Tyson when Tyson was Tyson

Balrog is the guy with the fun villainous persona and very amusing obsession with money. Maybe his moveset is a little straightforward, but he definitely has the potential to be designed as a truly crazed boxer in SFV (if he's truly going to be playable).

Like both, but Dudley (mostly based on his SFIII versions) is the better boxer. Balrog definitely has better music, and hits harder usually, but I love the versatility and style of Dudley so much, and he's one of the most quotable SF characters still to me.

SNK boxers (Heavy D/Vanessa/Rick Stroud/etc.) mostly beat them both for me though.

I prefer Dudley. I never was able to grasp the mechanics of charge characters.

This is always so strange. Holding a charge while donig something else or keeping it in your back pocket always feels more natural to me than buffering a motion.

I can hold a charge when I jump in and do an attack, if I don't want to use the charge, i just keep holding back/downback and keep the charge.

If I want to jump in and do a kick into fireball I have to do the motion, and I have a split second to decide if I want to do the special or not. I end up doing the motion and getting hit.

Especially in super turbo, doing something like Charge back, foward (standing forward) back, forward, RH to cancel into super always felt so good.

I like the character but I don't like playing as or especially fighting against him. Dudley sucks though.

I hope Rog gets the Vega treatment in SFV. It doesn't really match his personality for him to be a charge character I don't think.

one is a carbon copy of mike tyson, so obvious he was that his name had to be changed in the western version
the other one is an original character
dudley all day
