Joanna Newsom. Listen to her so much, and she's amazing live.

Dude, Stratovarius has been releasing albums since the 80s.

Not alot of good bands in this decade. Can't say that about the 50's through the 90's

Not even gonna bother quoting your tag.

Anyway, band of the decade.. heh. I don't know. There's been quite a few good bands this decade. If I were to pick the first ones that come to mind as having impressed me a lot, it would probably be The Birthday Massacre or Alice in Videoland.

personally, it's like highlander... there can only be one:

minus the bear

I'm listening to their first EP right now (first I've heard from them)...LOVE it. The guitar work is mesmerizing.

Ah, so many. The Raconteurs, The Dead Weather, Wolfmother, and Them Crooked Vultures are probably my favorites though. I'd pick the White Stripes, but they released an album in 1999. D:

Going to say Radiohead, simply because Kid A came out in 2000 and is my favorite album period.

A more creative answer might be The Hold Steady... everything they've released this decade has been fantastic in my eyes (or you know, ears).

Edit: Missed the part about the debut after the decade started, so pretend my answer is The Hold Steady.

The Strokes
Minus the Bear
Kanye West
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
The Shins
Justice
The Mars Volta
Stars/Broken Social Scene
New Pornographers

Thats just off the top of my head. The music of the 2000's are not nearly as bad as some people made them out to be.

I would have gone with The Mars Volta, but then their last three records happened.
Agreed... If you could lump the last At The Drive-In album along with the first Mars Volta album and just say "Cedric and Omar", then that entity could take it maybe.

mathrock guitars, top notch drumming, excellent song writing skills (ie, double vision quest) and they almost always sing about super-good-times.

they've been very consistent skill wise but not so much style-wise. each full length has it's own voice, and "They Make Beer Commercials Like This" is an incredible EP (my personal release from their catalog)

OP wins. Absolutely. Electric Six is the most amazing band of the '00s.

Edit: Had The Decemberists started gaining momentum earlier...I would have picked them.

Super Furry Animals. I'm going to post their album artwork just to take up space. But seriously, every single one of these albums is worth checking out. Their only rival for consistency is Spoon, but I'd say SFA's the more adventurous and interesting band.

2000: Mwng

2001: Rings Around the World

2003: Phantom Power

2005: Love Kraft

2007: Hey Venus!

2009: Dark Days/Light Years

Probably Interpol for me, even though I thought the third album was a letdown. Their first is one of my favourite debuts of all time.

I very, very rarely listen to a band for the first time and within 60 seconds think, "I really dig this shit, I'm probably going to love these guys", but Electric Six is doing it for me. :D

Two of my favorite E6 songs are "Down At McDonaldzzzzzzzz" and "Dance Pattern", check those out.

I'm The Bomb
Synthesizer
Rock n Roll Evacuation
Future Is The Future
I Buy The Drugs
Slice Of You
Vibrator
Formula 409
Body Shot
Newark Airport Boogie

Just a couple more songs off the top of my head. There are plenty better ones too.

Edit: What songs have you dug so far?

Frances the Mute is the worst album I've ever listened to. No joke.

I'm not a big fan, but come on! No need for such an extreme hyperbole. There was definite talent, and some decent tracks here and there to boot.

Anywho, this thread really got me thinking and I'm not too sure. I'll mull it over and be back tomorrow. I've got a 2 hour drive tomorrow so I'll whip the CDs out and see how I feel.

No Kings of Leon love GAF? For shame

Followed by the Killers

Kings Of Leon would be up there, but that 4th album is a pretty big letdown.

Those first three albums are fantastic though.

No really. I liked the first album a lot, it's one of my all time favorite records but Frances was just 70 minutes of musical masturbation. Just horribly disjointed and completely pointless. You can say it was music for music's sake but it was terrible, cacophonous music. I found no redeeming value in it at all.

I'm sure there are people who like and I'm sure some of them will attack me shortly but it was the worst musical experience of my life and I was fully prepared to fall in love with it like I did the first go around and earlier with At the Drive-In.

Historically, it will be the Animal Collective. For me, it is probably Hair Police, Burning Star Core, Astral Social Club, or Birchville Cat Motel.
I've been drinking and I'm failing at coming up with anyone else, so I'm going to second your answer.

As an aside, have you heard any of Kneale's Our Love Will Destroy the World material?

Oh, I just thought of one to add to the list: Nadja.

Oh God! The hair! Kill them. Kill them all. Am I the only one bothered by this???

This look like a 70's band. Guy even has a 70's mustache.

And they play 70's music (at least in there first 3 albums).

The Hold Steady has had a flawless decade. They're my answer as well.

While I'm not a hater on Frances, in this we can find solitude and agreement. R.I.P. early Mars Volta and ATDI.
