Banjothreeie.com no longer redirects to Rare's website

I have absolutely no faith in these idiots to ever give me just one sliver of something I want from them. But God damnit if they give me a real, true, God honest Banjo Threeie I will give Phil Spencer and the entire development team the best damn handjob of their lives.

Fingers. Fucking. Crossed.

Hopefully you'll deliver on that if it happens.

You'd better live up to your name doctor.

It's triggering nostalgia to see all these threads about Rare. I don't dare dream anymore. The dream is dead. Let me swim in my misery.

the fall of ATARI and SEGA hurt on the inside but the downfall of Rare? It feels like having sex with Donald Trump. Terrible. Utterly, life ruining terrible.

I leave this thread for one second, come back, and it's all Phil Spencer handjobs and sex with Donald Trump.

Really hope they bring back Krikhope if they make a third game.

I wonder if the old staff will embrace this game, or we'll see a split down the Banjo-Kazooie/Youka-Laylee party line.

How much money on Microsoft announcing they've bought out the Youka-Laylee Kickstarter, will refund backers, and fund the whole thing themselves at 10x the scale as Banjo 3?
Zero dollars? Yeah, me too. But man, what if right?

Has anyone made a joke about it redirecting to Playtonic's website instead yet?

I really really really hope that a new Banjo-kazooie is coming. It'd be amazing if we after all these years got both Y-L and a new Banjo. I don't think I'm ready to believe, though.

Excited to see what Rare is working on nonetheless. Bring on E3!

Eh, I stuck with Rare longer than most people but after their output the last few years, and the travesty that was nuts & bolts, I'd rather just stick to yooka-laylee at this point than get excited for a new Banjo game. It's far too late for that now.

I just googled Banjo and Kazooie to see what the fuss was..
Apparently the lead designer is making a new game for Rare and a couple of the other guys who were artists or something are making some indie game.
Can't wait to see what the lead designer is up to.

Banjo Kazooie + New Ip. Thats what I think we will be seeing. Also Battletoads and Killer Instinct Season3. Big year for Rare xD We may not get it all at E3 though

I thought it was confirmed that Rare are actually working on two titles? One small project and one big project.

They are. Last i heard they have three teams. One of the teams is pretty much confirmed to be working on a new IP.

Thing about Battletoads, that is pretty much confirmed as well, but it doesnt mean that Rare is working on it. Itll likely be an arcade game, so it wont have to have a ton of people on it, but it could easily be outsourced. Not saying it is or isnt, but remember that it is always possible.

But yeah, they have three teams. Keep in mind, Rare composer Robin Beanland said Rare is going to have a HUGE year.

While I would be incredibly happy if there was a new Banjo coming at E3, I seriously doubt they would use the name Banjo-Threeie, because really only hardcore fans would understand this and without taking context into consideration the name sounds quite dumb. Therfore I don't think this really is a sign of a new Banjo game coming :(.

Omg.. Please be true! Let banjo out of hibernation for another adventure! More expansive bigger open worlds than the n64 was capable of, etc. No more stuck in a garage, trying to create vehicles.

Rare's game announcement has me the most excited for this E3.

Same. New ip, pre-existing ip, whatever. Rare has me the most psyched for e3. Glad we can be certain it isn't another kinect sports.

Platinum could make a hell of a Battletoads game. Not likely, but I can dream.

I guess I'm the only one that wants more Nuts and Bolts. Or at least vehicles.

Actually Platinum would be an awesome fit to be honest xD I dont think they would do it, but they would do great imo lol

Nuts and Bolts was pretty good, just not what people wanted from Banjo-Kazooie. People want it to be like 1&2.

Besides Banjo, I would love to see another Viva Pinatas and Kameo personally. I honestly believe that is some of Rare's best work including their golden days. Banjo and Conker is my two favorite though, so really hoping for a new Banjo.

Are there any writers born in the 90s working in the game industry right now? I seriously hope so because I want to make sure that when its revealed the journalists know what it is.

What if they updated it to redirect to the real site with the real name?

What about writers born in the 80's or 70's or 60's?

I cannot fathom how good a Banjo game would look like on Xone especially since the new Ratchet & Clank looks so otherworldly awesome.

I'm sorry, this doesn't make any sense, but it's nevertheless very much happening inside my head and I wanted you to know.

Oh Kart building? Cool. So you didn't actually play the game enough to know that isn't what the game is. You should play more of the game because it is really, really far from a kart building game, and really really far from Lego Racers.

You need a better excuse than the old "you must not have played it" for why you think it's a better game.

I did play it and completed it and felt that being such a bad game it deserved to be reduced to its most basics which is a kart building game, that's what they decided to make it instead of a sequel to BK1/2 game play wise.

If you're claiming it's the same as BK1/2 except driving cars then you must not have played it and are trolling by defending a game infamous for being shit.

Is your favorite Zelda title the Cdi one too?

I explained why it's a bad game and why it's different from bk1/2 so explain why bk1/2 are worse and n&b is better.

If you had a point you would have made it but choosing to attack my character shows you can't support your trolling "opinion."

It's not infamous for being shit. It's infamous for not being what the fans wanted.

Nuts & Bolts is actually a good game. I too wanted it to be a real sequel to Kazooie/Tooie, but I was still able to enjoy N&B for what it was: A colourful action-adventure game with veichle building elements.

I think the use of the Banjo IP put unnecessary constraints on the project.

I believe they felt they had to stick somewhat with what BK is supposed to be, but still experimenting way too much with a mainline title.

That disconnect meant they were making a game that was unlike BK because they wanted to experiment with gameplay but still be similar to BK in style and theme which held them back because they had to have similar elements to previous games.

When I played it I felt that disconnect and really wished they had used a different IP and we're free to experiment 100% without having to adhere to the image of BK while dropping the most important part, the gameplay.

Banjo Kazooie 3 delivered with Nuts and Bolts.
A game not doing the franchise service with it's awkward new look.

I hope that game becomes a Games with Gold title soon cause I never bought it, played the demo and didn't like it in comparison to Banjo Kazooie, it was too overwhelming with collectables and challenges that I lost focus and interest. Something simple, with few to little collectables would be great. Levels have to be designed tight, explorable and not too big. Something in scope of Dark Souls, Super Mario 64, easy and in digestable chunks to create memorability with iconic landmarks that often get revisited through repetition and starting off in.

If they announce it who wants to bet that it's a CG reveal?

It's been in development for over a year now, so if they're going to tease I would go with recreating the original's opening (suggesting it's going back to its roots) and showcasing the characters and graphics engine. Then follow it with a quick montage of new gameplay and end it with a Coming in 2016.

Who's left at Rare from the old days now? Is it likely that a new Banjo would even be good?

I think Steverulez has a post somewhere where he proved there were 15-25 people still there from the old days.

Gregg Mayles, the original creator of Banjo, is still there and the game that's going to be revealed on Monday was led by him. Considering he also led the development of Nuts & Bolts I'd say there's a very high chance it will be a great game, but maybe not a good Banjo game.

Not trolling. And its more of "Oh, this dude is just spouting BS because anyone who actually played it would know its not a kart building game. And its not at all like lego racers. No point articulating a point to a person who is clearly not here to discuss the actual merits of the game." Which I still don't think you are, but here.

To succinctly wrap up your explanation of why it's a bad game.

boring and repetitive game and for misleading fans

Boring is subjective, and I've pointed out how repetitive is completely off base, as well as misleading fans.

but the game play in N&B is garbage compared to the game play in BK.

Very descriptive and articulated "garbage" gameplay.

Every other negative you've stated is "but it's not banjo threeie!"

I wouldn't say that really fits under

I explained why it's a bad game

very well.

I've covered my thoughts on the game all over gaf before so I'll just copy and paste some of those here.

In the best hub worlds thread.

The hub world from Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts was great. There were tons of hidden secrets, collectibles, and gated areas to look forward to.

The hub was like a whole special world in and of itself.

Someone asking for games to get them excited about gaming again

Hey OP, if you want a really fresh, bright and creative game, you should without a doubt try out Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts on 360.

It's got a great sense of charm, really great looking colorful visuals throughout, and the core mechanic of creating vehicles for completing challenges is an absolute incredible time.

It offers you so many tools to creatively play the game, you really should give it a shot. I couldn't give it higher praise.

Someone asking about N&B because they had only ever heard uninformed opinions slandering it for not being Banjo Three

Then you should really, really, really check out N&B. It's not a platformer like the first two, the whole game is based upon you entering worlds and completing challenges. Some challenges give you a prebuilt vehicle but almost all of them let you create your own.

So knowing the challenge, you can create something really specific and the game gives you TONS of options for doing something creative.

For example, there was a level where a bunch of flying enemies were trying to destroy this statue. They expect you to make a flying vehicle and fly around shooting down enemies as fast as you can so they can't get to the statue.

What I did was basically make a giant metal box and placed a turret on top of it.

So as soon as the mission started, I placed the box over the statue completely shielding it from all damage, then I just hopped in the turret and shot down enemies for the next couple minutes with a gleeful smile because it's cool to be able to just completely subvert a challenge.

Another example of something that's really cool and creative use of the tools available to you.

I was doing a race and my car just could NOT get enough traction for one of the turns and I kept messing up. I didn't wanna compromise speed so I tried something wild out. I raised my car up a bit higher and threw propellors underneath it that would pull me downward. This gave my car car nearly perfect traction and I could completely turn on a dime losing almost no speed. Propellors are designed for flying and propelling water vehicles, so it was awesome to be able to implement them this way and it works. Another cool perk was that because it was so sticky by just pushing straight down, I was also able to drive the car up walls and ceilings! How cool is that! Aghhh!

But it doesn't have to always be so complex. For example, one quick vehicle that's super fun is just grabbing a rocket, sticking two wheels and two retractable wings on it and some fuel. Just like that, you've got a really speedy motorcycle that you can pop wings out and you've got a zippy little airplane.

Another one I remember is a "top speed" challenge where you have to make a vehicle that goes REALLY fast. Rather than make a jet plane or a super car, I just attached a spring to a chair. When you activate the spring you go propelling into the air at extreme speeds and complete the mission.

The best part is that I just have a TON of stories like the ones above because it's completely open to creative solving solutions. I've spent hours at a time just messing around in the vehicle creator making weird vehicles that just do tons of crazy stuff.

If any of that sounds appealing to you, you really should check the game out. It's probably at bargain bin prices, and it's an absolute blast.

from the "games that shouldn't be the best in the series but are" thread.

Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts. I think it's the most ambitious and most fun of the Banjo Games. It has the BK charm and humor with a really interesting and unique gameplay style. It has a strong similarity to the appeal of Kerbal Space Program, but came 3 years earlier.

It's a really great game.

Generally, the same type of people who would tell you "The only real Pokemon are Gen1 Pokemon" are the type you can expect to hate on Nuts and Bolts.

There was a lot of grief given to the game because it isn't a 3D platformer, and angry that they turned it into "a car game".

There's a really popular Youtube video by Jontron where he drops a fat turd all over the game and it's his most viewed. It really, really irks me because if you watch the video, most of the legitimate complaints about the game that he has would be rectified if he were to have played more than the 20 minutes he did, which is god damned crazy to me.

One of his complaints is that the worlds are so massive and completely empty and Rare basically didn't finish the game, but that is literally one level, the tutorial level, and all the levels work in stages so these massive worlds have multiple stages and day/night sections that populate them with tons of new missions.

Man that video really infuriates me, not because it talks bad about one of my favorite games, but because it's just SO incredibly uninformed and popular.

..and that's an okay criticism to have. I was just reacting to the "shit" part of your post.

Gregg Mayles, who was the lead designer on the Banjo games (+ DKC and Battletoads), is still there.

Leigh Loveday, who wrote the excellent script in N&B, is also still there.

Grant Kirkhope is not at Rare, but he is a freelancer so he could theoretically come back to make songs for "Banjo-Threeie". Robin Beanland, who is Rare's current head of music, is a talented composer though (KI, Conker, JFG). Plus he already worked on N&B together with Kirkhope and Dave Clynick.

The Banjo art team is gone. Some are working at Playtonic, some elsewhere. Rare still has some of the art people who worked on JFG, DKR, Kameo, Conker and Viva Pinata, though.
