Bar Rescue is a pretty good show

I'm watching US Kitchen Nightmares and I'm hating it. It's nothing like the UK version.

Ramsay: Look at all of this shit. (DRAMATIC MUSIC)
Owner: No it's not.
Ramsay: [stares]

Commercial

Ramsay: I've given your restaurant a new paint job and a POS system
Owner: OMG it's amazing. We're going to have a great restaurant.

Commercial

Ramsay: Tonight we're going to relaunch the restaurant using a menu that I made. Here's food I cooked.
Owner and Staff: This food is so good. We're going to do so well.
[Shots of all the hot waitresses smiling while eating]

Commercial

Waiter: Okay, you'll have that and that. That's good.
Customer: Wow. That's so cool. We're so excited for our food. (HAPPY MUSIC)
Ramsay: Guys we're falling behind. (DRAMATIC MUSIC)
Owner: [Bumbling around]
Ramsay: OWN IT.
Owner: Okay Chef. Now the problem is fixed. (HAPPY MUSIC slowly builds)

End Scene, but still keep HAPPY MUSIC

Ramsay: The restaurant is doing so well after one night of service and a new paint job.
Owner: I know. We're doing so well. It's because of what you taught us. Even though the audience didn't see any of that.
Ramsay: You're stubborn, but you've learned. Keep it up.

End Scene, End HAPPY MUSIC.

Ramsay's monologue about the problems that were fixed. Says something about sticking to it, and then has to say a poorly written line. He hates himself on the inside.

I loved the UK episode featuring Bonaparte's, and that vegetarian place in Paris.

I remember watching this back during the marathon the OP is talking about but never cared enough to follow it. Seems to happen with all of these weekend reality show marathons like this, beauty and the geek, ink master, etc.

What's so much worse about the US version? I haven't watched it in over a year and I've only seen a few episodes of the UK version.

Haven't you heard? UK version of everything is always better because it's the UK version.

Caught some of an ep today that must have been something made early on because Jon Taffer was much more toned down than what I assume is his usual performance now.

The wonders of television.

The UK version of Kitchen Nightmares is decent television. The US version is so overtly dramatic for no reason.

Eh, I can't hate it. I like the UK version better, but I enjoy the fake drama of the American version. I enjoyed the hotel version, too. Then again, anything with Gordon on it makes me happy. The F Word is hype.

I love everything Ramsay touches. It's just disappointing that for the U.S. version they thought less of Ramsay's insight into food and the industry, and more screaming and faux drama, would make better television.

Very true. It's one of the reasons I like "The F Word" so much. It's all Gordon, cooking, and food/industry discussion. I wish there was a show like that in America.

Just seen the Pirates episode pretty funny. I understand he wants to change the bar but come on can't make someone change something when they really don't want to. Just some how keep the Pirate theme in some way.

How do most of the staff at these places even work it's horrible. The dude yells to much and those crazy eyes.

Just walk in start yelling at people.

THANKS TO MY FRIENDS AT POURMETRICS, WE KNOW YOUR BARTENDERS OVERPOURED BY 18% LAST NIGHT. THAT'S FUCKING STEALING FROM YOUR POCKET. FIRE THEIR ASSES.

Best episode of the US version of Kitchen Nightmares was The Black Pearl, and the one Soul Food place where they accused Ramsey of planting a dead mouse in the restaurant.

I've been watching this show since almost the beginning. I like Taffer. I'm sure it's fake or at least exaggerated, but its still entertaining. I've worked in food before so I can see how some if not all of the things he points out are true. Also giving away booze makes bartenders more in tips so I can see why they'd do that. I still like the show and will continue to watch.

Watching the rocks episode one thing I don't understand. They train the guys for a day and then the dude packs the bar out some how. Then he bitches they can't handle it you just said the bar is never that busy.

Other then that I agree with Jon with a bunch of shit.

Watch Spike's new spin-off show Car Lot Rescue truly appreciate Bar Rescue as the modern masterpiece that it is. What an awful premiere episode.

In any of these shows, whether it's Kitchen Nightmares, Bar Rescue, Restaurant Impossible, they overload the place of business with customers to a number that they would never be able to handle at the current the state of things, and then the Host complains when service slows.

There used to be a Car Dealership Reality show a while ago, it was actually pretty interesting, I think it was either in Vegas, or LA. I can't remember.

That serves a purpose though. It'll be busier than usual once the host leaves because of the buzz. It's better for them to experience a legit rush while in the bad state the place is in and see how stupid/flawed the way they were doing things. Then get taught how to handle the rush and get set up with easier systems/methods than before. That way its a lot easier to handle.

I understand in theory it's good to learn to handle how to run a place in a whirlwind rush, but to expect a place that has never been that busy to not miss a beat at first, is just lunacy.

Makes sense another thing though most of these places seems it needs more staff. Wish their was a way to see how these bars are doing now. Wanna know how many of these places switched back.

I'm sure you could Yelp them, and see reviews before/after the show?

Criticisms

Although most of the bars that are "rescued" go on to survival and success, some bars do not see the same results off-camera. Breakwall (from the Season 1 episode, "Beach Bummer") closed in January 2012.[6] Seasons 1's Swanky Bubbles, after reverting to the original title, has also closed its doors. [7] The show's first rescued bar of Season 2, Piratz Tavern reverted back to the original pirate theme.[8] Also, both the Chicken Bone and Angry Ham's both reverted back to their names[9] and in the Chicken Bone's case, brought back its previously popular menu while Angry Ham's replaced unpopular items with previously popular items from their original menu.
Not all rescued bar owners have been happy with Taffer's makeovers. Amber Glacken of Fairfield, Ohio's Win, Place or Show (renamed "America Live" by Taffer) stated that her establishment "was in such disarray" after their Season 2 episode was completed that "we had to close for several daysÂ… we were left with a nightmare". "Although the show gives you a makeover, they do not give you any funds to replace your net sales you lose while they are there," she added. Glacken's bar subsequently went out of business.[10] The Piratz Tavern in Silver Spring, MD, quickly undid most of Taffer's drastic changes shortly after their episode was filmed. The unsuccessful pirate-themed bar was rebranded the Corporate Bar and Grill by Taffer but the change was short-lived, as the bar was again going with the pirate theme by the time the episode aired. The owner even released a YouTube video of the new "Corporate" sign created by Taffer's team being burned in effigy. "If you had a pirate concept that had failed for five years and had a new concept, would you go back to the concept that failed for five years or try something new? It defies logic that someone would go back to a (failed) concept just because they don't like the new name", said Taffer of their decision.[11]

:lol he just did that in the Olive Pit episode. Fucking great. Then he throws 2 bottles on the floor. You are at a bar that's doesn't even clean. Who is gonna clean it?

Yeah a lot of these places are already too far in debt to recover. Like Kitchen Nightmares.

That sucks some of these owners care. Wonder how many of these guys just bullshited to get on this show?

I love how so many people go to Jon saying dude stop screaming. What's up with him and yelling when they are open. I would never go back to a place after I seen a guy show all disgusting shit.

Probably to make the owners embarrassed so they realize that they're shit's not exactly doing to well? That, and TV drama.

I have no pity for these people. The restaurant/bar business is incredibly cut throat and runs on razor thin margins. I think it's something like 50% of all restaurant/bars close within a year of opening. The fact that a show is even giving them a free several thousands of dollars makeover and all they have to do is deal with this guy's bull shit and a few days of lost business makes me just not empathize at all.

It's the same way with Kitchen Nightmares. Sometimes your business goes bankrupt. That's bad, but it's not Ramsay's fault that you already had a massive amount of debt when he came in there to try and fix everything. It's your fault.

Is that lady nuts or what?

Also I totally read that Heel post in Taffer's voice, haha.

The most recent New Orleans episode was really good, those new plastic drink containers are crazy!

There's a news story online about this episode. Owners say that some stuff was exaggerated for TV (when they say the place is 500k in debt, that's on loans the owner took out, he was financially safe), and that the glasses they used for the Ressurection were 20 dollars each, so they couldn't afford to keep giving them out.

I love this show, even if it isn't 100 percent on the level. While the full concept changes don't always work, its great when you see a bar like Second Base become a more refined idea of what was originally happening.

Pretty good show. I really love it when Tafer goes apeshit over un-sanitary stuff. It almost makes me scared ever eating out.

And it tells me how bad most people are at running a business. The Pirate themed one was just mind boggling. How did the owner think that would be successful was just crazy. AND even crazier when I hear she went back to that style and got shut down.

Thanks to this silly little thread being bumped, I now have a new addiction. I saw that YouTube video on this page and watched the Pirate's Tavern episode. I will never say he is being over the top after viewing that. Those people...

I get a good laugh when the changes he makes are pretty much a direct "fuck you" to the people who own/work at the place - like Piratz becoming Corporate or the one that pretty much had a bike-less biker gang squatting in it becoming the Power Plant.

Wow, just saw this for the first time. Usually don't enjoy these kinds of shows, but Bar Rescue is pretty fantastic.

The product placement is so hilariously obvious, though. Pimp My Bar.

Watching the marathon right now. Piratz episode just went off, and it makes me wonder, what happened to the culinary chef in school that they hired? Was he just fired right after they left?

pretty much all shows on Spike are pretty damn good, I love that channel. I don't care about auction hunters anymore though, since it seems too fake.

And that show about buying shitty old houses, fixing them and reselling them was pretty kick ass too, but it seems they cancelled it :/

That World's Worst Tenants show is terrible.
