meh, Conroy and Hamill are great in the animated series, but im tired of them being treated as the be-all/end-all. People wanted them to play their live action counterparts in Nolan's batman movies for crissakes. They fit well for the cartoon but i wouldn't have minded some new blood.

I am open to other people voicing Batman, but since they already have Mark in as Joker, Conroy would just fit better for the whole nostalgia factor now.

And Jeremy Sisto was great as Batman in New Frontier.

Because they were the end all, in terms of voice, for many years. Conroy is still the best Batman voice we've had, and up until The Dark Knight Hamill's Joker was the best version outside of the top comic stories. The animated Joker captured the character like no other incarnation. Its a great credit to the writers of the cartoon that they were able, over the course of several seasons, to create a Joker that has no less depth or complexity, in fact more so, than what the movies did.

i had some of the same feelings, until i saw that Gotham Knight animated movie a few months ago. Granted, the movie is pretty crap for the most part, but Conroy's voice was really out of place to me. This game seems to be going for a more realistic, darker feel, i dont know if Conroy and Hamill (especially Hamill) will fit in. Plus, it'd give it its own identity.

I never really understood the insane love for Hamill's Joker voice. TAS was a great series and they did a great job with the Joker character, but I always felt like Hamill's voice was the weakest part of it. For me it sounded too serious and maybe it's just me but it just sounds like Hamill put on a strange British type accent for the role.

Here's an example to refresh the memory.

Conroys Batman voice is great though so no complaints there.

To be honest, that video didnt do any justice to the fighting. It looks much better in actual raw, uncut footage instead of the edited video.

To be honest have no idea how the fighting "should look" since this was the first video i saw about this game! :P

Ummm, it kinda resembles a fight scene where you have one guy being attacked by multiple enemies, and he is countering and attacking in all directions, freely moving from one person to the next. A bit like the typical jet li or jacky chan flick, only replace the finesse with a more direct, brutal approach. It really does look awesome to see him clear out a room full of people and do so like you would expect Batman to do so.

One thing I noticed about that dev video that I didn't notice the first time it was on Blim's site: when Batman gets hit with the pipe his vision seems to double, putting blurred versions of his enemies all around him. I can't remember a game ever doing this before, and it's pretty smart.

Here is a decent video that lets you see it better. The guy makes some mistakes that break up the flow, but you can see what its all about.

Check it out

That looked cool.
Although i must say i like the idea that the game also seems like a stealth game :)

I reckon either an exclusive playable character for 360 ala the Joker on PS3. (Nightwing? Robin? Harley?)

Or maybe they're bringing the release date forward a bit.

Something tells me it's Poison Ivy for the 360...

Thats the best part :^)

A stealth game with combat like this when it gets heated...and its a batman game. I would have never thought it would happen.

This game is gonna be one of the biggest surprises of the year in terms just how goddamn good it is. Pretty much every journo I've talked is loving the game.

Awesome to hear.

People buying the collector's edition, who's going to "try out" their batarang? :D

Yeah with all these collector's edition extras I'm planning on taking my night vision goggles and batarang to go Roo hunting at night.

^^ EDIT: BEATEN

I own three actual Batarang's already. I bought them from a weapon shop a couple months before TDK came out, so I don't have much incentive to go for the collectors edition :P

I probably will anyway though, since I'm a huge Batman whore.

Also, only about one month off from release! Can't wait. One of my most anticipated games of the year. Looks soooo rad.

it's so totally rad and phat

seriously though, countdown's ended on the gamestop site... nothing yet...

Dem Bones (the Gamestop reveal) looks pretty cool. Hope it's going on in Canada too, I want to hit skeletons. Is this the first look at Scarecrow? He looks pretty good.

It's just the Scarecrow map that's exclusive to Gamestop preorders. We get to see what he looks like, which I guess isn't new (we've seen his art via the comic) and the skeletons were in a previous screenshot. Not much for a reveal, we knew the preorder exclusive was a Scarecrow map.

Amongst a drought with not much to play I'm really looking forward to this now. I'm a big Batman fan, but I was unsure if I'd end up getting the game or not originally. But with not much to play lately I think I'm leaning towards it. I've heard it's been pushed back slightly again though? September 2nd?

I played a demo of the PS3 version in a Gamestop a few weeks ago and was sadly underwhelmed. I tried a mission that basically sent waves and waves of enemies after me. Combat was sort of like that of Assassin's Creed, except the the controls felt much mashier and I didn't get the sense that I had to time much of anything, even counterattacks.

I'll try the demo again sometime to confirm my impression, but for now my anticipation for this game has dwindled. Here's hoping the stealth elements are much better than the combat.

I'm pretty sure the main single-player game is not like that. It's more of an open ended experience where you explore each part of Arkham island. I think you tried the challenge rooms, which are much more limited, and don't really have any real story elements to them.

Jesus, Eidos really fucked up with the GameStop demo. The combat is fun, but its so laughably insignificant compared to the stealth, investigation and story elements of AA.

I am now going to read all of this viral marketing, even though it is a waste of time.

Pretty thorough, though. They even have fake comments threads for the articles.

for the viral stuff if anyone wants to just get into the meat and not figure out the puzzlez by following the cluez

http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?t=91393 has the step by step in the first post

or more direct steps that ignore the storyline and take you to see evidence of croc's coke habit:

I'm going to wait an see if the game gets good reviews before I start to go through the viral marketing stuff. I took a brief look at it, and yes, I agree it's thorough and neat and all that, but there's not much point in solving the puzzles if the game sucks.

whew. Just fired up the PS3 review, and looks like they were able to fix the HORRIBLE tearing of the preview code. Going by the review-age shit, and talking of Eidos, I thought they weren't going to.
