Holy shit. There are scans of a German review out there that show a new villain, that I didn't know was in the game. It's a boss fight too.

Scarecrow!

Score?

It's been known for quite some time that he is in the game.

About the sparks, I didn't find a better vid but it shows off Halo's spark effects nicely (starting 30s into the vid). It's an Xbox launch game from late 2001 mind you.

I know it's the PC version and a mod but the sparks look exactly the same if not better in the Xbox version.

The devs could without a doubt have added really cool spark effects to the console version of Batman: AA if they wanted. The sight of slowly fading out sparks dancing across the floor never gets old in my opinion and it didn't get old back in 2002 when I first played Halo before this PhysX stuff was even a wet dream in most PC gamers minds.

I agree, the PhysX sparks are kind of lackluster. However, I think the reason why they're all that is because they're being dynamically rendered, so all the animations are happening in real-time according to the physics calculations.

Wait, the German review scans indicate that the Language and Text in their version is in German? Does this mean that this game is going the inFamous route where only the English version of the game had the original track intact and everyone else gets a localisation?

I hope not beacuse if true....

Apparently there are already mods beginning to come out for the PC version.

Nope. Local+original on my version, so I guess that's the same for all. If I have time I'll check what are the other languages on the disk, if there's any.

Is there a language select screen or does the PS3 do the language select? I need to know this because if it's the latter case the Polish edition of the game might end up with only the Polish dub like in the inFamous fiasco which would make me RAGE.

The only other costume for Batman is the armored Batsuit, which you can get with various retailers straight way or unlock when you clock the game on easy.
.

Bummer. But most definitely not a deal breaker.

Why bummer? You unlock it by finishing the game anyway. It's the way it should be. It's not retailer-exclusive crap.

It's a bummer beacuse seeing that Batman has a truckload of costumes over the years, you'd think that Rocksteady would give you a bigger selection than nomal suit or armored.

Digital Foundry Demo Comparison is UP

I was right on the frame drops in the PS3 version. Hope it doesn't get ugly in more open environments.

Anybody know if there's big open levels? I've realized my PC can't handle that opening area too well, but the final area with the 5 goons runs great. Weird.

If you have a PC, there will most likely be quite a few costumes available via mods.

It seems the PS3 version doesn't have the distortion effect in the background (haze?) that the steam produces, you can see it in the first area, when you get your fighting tutorial. The pipe that blows steam (right corner) right next to the ramp going up.

Maybe it lacks some more.. nothing big but it just caught my eye. Effect is both in PC and X360.

Capping your framerate might help, it'll make the drops much less noticable, see my earlier posts to found out how to do this. If you're struggling for performance make sure PhysX is disabled and you might want to disable SSAO as you may not be noticing it anyway.

A Batman Beyond costume would be ace, though it would look odd on Bruce as it did in the opener to Beyond. If someone can mod a Bats model built like Terry with this costume in, I'll upgrade the PC and double-dip :lol

Keir, couple questions:

1. Is the demo set to Easy or to Normal?
2. I've heard that was well as giving you less health/damage resistance, setting it to Hard turns off the prompt for counter attacks. Does it change anything else?

It's set to easy.

In hard you got things like no warning of incoming attacks in FreeFlow - this adds a massive new challenge to the game. Thugs reaction time, speed, damage and willingness to take advantage of you when you're under attack all increase. In the rooms with armed thugs, these will look up on gargoyles for you so you need to be more careful when navigating the room. The bosses will also be more difficult with more dangerous attacks on hard.

And that email is hot out my inbox from Sefton Hill (I had to email him because I'm too much of a pussy to play in hard).

Good to know, I like a challenge and will probably play it on Hard from the start.

Strange choice forcing the demo to easy, though.

Did eidos mention anything about DLC? The infocast line in the start screen makes me think the joker's rooms won't be the only download for long, and I guess costumes will be the very first thing to come out, together with more challenge room, possibly villain themed.

I'd also like to be able to play in the black and white mode the game goes into when pausing. Dunno if anyone read Batman Black and White at the time, but it's pretty cool, very hard boiledish.

Just finished playing the demo and have instantly pre-ordered. Don't think that has ever happend to me, usually demos confirm what I think I already know is correct (Killzone 2), or convince me otherwise (Ghostbusters). I went in to this with no expectations and loved it.

It's got to appeal to the masses, I guess.

There's no official word yet.

It's really not. Most people don't like to get their asses kicked by games. The hardcore do but regular people like to pretty much be able to get through games.

I really loved that. Very subtle touch but yeah. Great presentation on this game.

Any info on whether the environments are going to be darker? The demo room was almost too well-lit. I never felt like I was actually hidden up on those gargoyles.

I guess I'm kind of hoping there's a Chronicles of Riddick mood? With enemy flashlights in pitch blackness sometimes? Really emphasize being the goddamn Batman and using the cover of night? I dunno.

Demo was fun. I can definitely see myself loving the main game. Plus, it felt so, so good to hear Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill, along with some of the other VAs from TAS.

Harley's "MISTA JAY" was awesome. :D :D :D
