'Batman: Arkham Asylum' (PS3/X360/PC) Officially Announced

I played the demo for this on my computer earlier, and it's a lot of fun. I wasn't sure what to expect from this game, but I'm definitely excited for it now. The action is fun, the environments are well designed, and the atmosphere really works. It feels like Batman.

I'll probably have to wait until a little after launch to be able to afford it, though. :(

Fun fact, if you throw the batarang using RB (or R1 on PS3) instead of RT (or R2) it will follow it in flight to the target, funny for knocking them down ladders.

Absolutely shocked at how well this runs on my mid-range PC. I think my PC having a large amount of RAM helped a lot.

This is a GFW game, correct? Will it have Live Achievements?

I hope there are a bunch of unlockables that keep people coming back for multiple playthroughs like the resident evil series.

or MGS series

ahhh, i was wondering how i did that once and couldn't get it to go again. i must have hit the bumper on accident.

Something about the demo reminds me of the combat in Bourne Cospiracy. It looked stunnig, but it was very, very shallow. I've got the same feeling with this demo: stunning graphics, amazing combat movements, brutal takedowns... but in the end, I feel like Batman is doing everythng by himself... I just press an X here, a Y there, again an X... an he destroys everything. Hopefully, the full game has more depth and more combos.

Im thinking of buying it on this.
:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol
Not having money to burn sucks.
It still looks pretty good

I've played this demo way too much. I've played it more than I've played Turtles in Time -- and that cost me 10 dollars.

That's another reason to get the pc version for me,
I should be that long before someone makes a "Difficulty mod" the only things it would need are.

-Remove "Rappel to gargoyle button". make it so the player has to aim where he wants to go all the time.

-Remove auto glide take down. force players to use the manual glide and aim it for a hit.

Sweet, Managed an 11 hit combo in the first fight (no damage) and ended the demo on 1480 + 350 - Anyone better that - I didn't do the second fight in the first room so well, so I'm sure 2k can be cracked.
I've got 2250 before. Remember to get the three joker teeth that are past the final room, where the green joker face is spraypainted.

As well as stringing combos together, you need to vary what you do. Mix in dodges, cape stuns, counters, Y+B takedowns, etc. You'll see a variations bonus appear when it's totting up XP at the end of the fight.

Some guy on the Eidos forums has a screenshot of 2,500+, and I think he said it was mathematically possible to get higher if you did the fights perfectly.

Yeah, I got the teeth, took them out from the top of the main room, kinda cool that you can aim that far. - 2,500 - I need to practice :lol

Shit. 2050 is my best so far. Didn't realise you could do dodge moves whilst fighting. Awesome! Time to up my variation bonus methinks.

During the stealth sections, is there any way of eeking out more exp. or is it generally just 50 points per takedown? Are there extra points for speed? Silence?

At least Bourne had interesting mechanics in building the special move bar in addition to holding the punch or kick button to unleash a more powerful attack. Timing your attacks was pretty fun and building the bar added a meta game to it all.

Not a great combat system, but was still enjoyable.

It doesn't seem so, which is disappointing. Variation bonuses for those takedowns would encourage people to do more than just glide kick over and over.

Oh, and on the official forums they've found one of the riddles scattered through the game (but disabled in the demo). At the end of the demo, there's an unfinished question mark in one of the window panes in the little glasshouse/room with the vents. If you line it up with a dot on a distant wall (only viewable in Detective Mode) and scan the completed question mark (you have to have the PC version to enable the scanner somehow, as it's not in the demo), it comes up with an (error?) message.

This is a good representation of the combat.

It's one of the challenge modes. Enjoy.

Edit - There's a longer version somewhere on youtube (or am I imagining that there is?)

Hope the AI in this game is good on higher difficulty settings. The guards should look for Batman in elevated areas etc, maybe have torch lights or something.

I'd seen the question mark, but not the dot on the far wall. That's a rather clever puzzle.

Yeah, somewhere further back in this thread someone posted a whole bunch of the riddler puzzles that a magazine had written up. I only read a couple because I didn't want to spoil but they seemed really quite clever.

Edit: Found it - It's in DrBo42's post in this thread: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=346393&page=9&highlight=batman+arkham+asylum

Sounds very cool.

DAAAAAMMMN, there are more moves in here than I thought, at least from the Demo. Breaking Bones!!!

You can do the bone-breaking ones in the demo. You'll see your combat meter change colour to orange when you hit 5x, and a prompt to hit Y+B. Hit it within the window and Bats will takedown with one of those attacks.

Holy fuck that was awesome, he reached a x30! Also, good to hear that the counter marker doesn't appear in hard mode :D
Yea, pretty much. All the whiners need to watch that video if they think the combat is shallow and easy.

I wonder if I can resist buying this at launch so I can pick it up for cheaper in the US. It sounds the most badass thing.

Although I have to say, the lack of motion control on the Batarangs disappoints me a little. Thrown projectiles and simple flight is one of the few things it works well for.

EDIT: Just realised I never got an answer for this. If I buy the US version am I forced into buying the DLC from the US PSN Store? Is this a hard-and-fast rule or does it go on a game-by-game basis?

Thanks for those youtube clips. I've downloaded the demo but I haven't had a chance to try it yet. I pre-ordered the PS3 version via Amazon (hooray Amazon Prime!) for release day delivery. I love not having to mess with EBGamestop.

I really like how the counters and moves flow in and out of each other. Can't wait to play it.

While the games are region free, I think the DLC you get has to match the region of the game. Though there may be some exceptions, I don't know many.

Pretty sure there is support for that, there's an option in the menus to turn motion support on and I'm damn sure I read one of the upgrades to your batarang is to be able to guide it with the motion sensor, Heavenly Sword style.

That's what I thought. Ah well, to be honest it'll probably end up like Mirror's Edge - me telling myself I'll be so into it I'll buy all the extra maps and then not even caring when they end up free. :lol If I redeem the code for the stuff in the CE on my US account, I can still use it on my UK one though, right?

Hot shit. I read in an earlier post that was basically a cut and paste of a review that it was 'thankfully' not motion-controlled, but if it's an option then great. Hell, it's not like it's a dealbreaker if it's not in there.

I agree with that guy and i was playing both of then this week, however that is not to say this game suck. It have more to do with the fact that i prefer sidescrollers.

The motion control in the demo is for gliding.

I'm HOPING there'll be an upgrade to the Batarang so I can use the Sixaxis on it, but... who knows.

Pretty much. I didn't follow batman at all. I thought it was going to be yet another terrible title like Wolverine Origins or ___insert movie ip terrible game streets of rage gimped game__.

I instantly fell in love with it. I didn't know Hamill had anything to do with it. That would have at least had me look at a gameplay video. At home with a toothache, I gave it a shot. And I've replayed the console demo several times. I've also downloaded the PC demo to see what Physx Magic I was losing. Which apparently is nothing. Yeah PhysX is great, but I've seen smoke and particles in Unreal before. Its a rip off that they are pretending you ened physx for smoke. Yes, its dynamic, but you could also just use fog. -- Anyway.

First day purchase for sure. It FEELS like Batman. Stalking people feels amazing. Countering punches & knocking a guy out is great. Stringing up some poor SOB and watch the others rush to him is great.

I just hope there is more variety in the combat.
