Batman: Arkham Origins PC Performance Thread

Okay I take back most of the stuff I said. More got into it the more the framerate kept dipping. The screen tearing is there with out vsync but not as bad as other games.

Its drops really bad during fights, indoors or out.There's some slight stuttering as well.

sigh. Now I'm starting to feel bad.
 
Wow I'm very impressed with the performance I'm getting. I have everything maxed out at 1080P with Physx turned off and I'm getting mostly 60fps with a few dips to 40-50 in some fights but it seems to be when the game slows down to show the last impact punch batman usually does. I played up until you first fight the first boss and the game is considerably much smoother than AC was imo.

This is on a AMD FX4100, 8GBram, Radeon 7870(2GB).

The zero-day version, which I have, doesn't come with a benchmark. But our friend from Nvidia says that it should be included in a soon-to-come update. But if you have an Nvidia card, the tweak guide linked in the first two posts has some good reference points for settings.

I'm using a single 670, so you can look at my post for settings references. I have PhysX on Normal and it's a fairly consistent 60. Your card might be able to wrangle High, but you may be better served using the 460 as a dedicated PhysX card so you can increase your resolution.

FYI a dedicated Physx card can be slower than just running it on your beefy primary card iirc. Need to find benchmarks, but that's what I remember.
 
so far so good. I have a gtx 660 and I'm still running on the older 314.22 driver but everything seems to be running well on this end with most things on high at a stable 60 fps so far.

Has anyone tried using the new 331.58 WHQL drivers from nvidia? I'm just wondering if its worth the update or not.
 
Plays great on my 680gtx/3820 i7.

Maxed everything, MSAA 2x. Physx on Normal.

I tried the Geforce TXAA/MSAA low solution but it blurs up the image wayyy too much.

No my game has not crashed and ive changed the settings a million times to check out different AA solutions.

EDIT: Got it to work again. Edited the XML file at C:\Users\XXXXX\Documents\WB Games\Batman Arkham Origins\GFXSettings.BatmanArkhamOrigins.xml and changed it back to 1280x720. I was then able to get in again and change the video settings back. Annoying, but at least I'm playing.
 
Game already froze once I entered the prison... Has random stutter on a 580 i7 2600k pc, with everything max except physx in normal and only 2xmsaa. Game varies a lot between 60fps -30fps, never dropped below 30fps so far. Vsync is enabled.

Turn off vsync or use triple buffering or adaptive vsync, see if FPS stablizes...

Normal PhysX on a 560 Ti as the sole card is giving a minimum of 30-40 frames, and I'm going to test High in a bit. And going by this you should be able to just have everything but AA maxed out anyway, so unless you're on a 120hz monitor I imagine you wouldn't notice any benefit if you even get one rather than being slowed down.
 
Hey all just played the game for about an hour and a half.

Setup:
i5 2500k Sandy Bridge OCed to 4.2GHz
Single GTX 780 @ 1150 core and +200 memory.
8 GB DDR 1600
Installed on corsair force GT SSD
windows 7 using latest nvidia drivers.

1080p all setting maxed except TXAA which I am running
at low cause 2x AA if fine enough for me!

Game looks and runs amazingly well. Gets 60FPS most
of the time in the open city. Largest frame drops were
during the first boss fight at the end of the tutorial... those
were drops down to 30, it was rough but the rest of the time
its been really great!v Just to give an idea of a single I'll be
it highly OCed 780.

GAME LOOKS AMAZING AND RUNS SO MUCH BETTER
THAN AC!!

Thanks for the replies.

Come to find out, with Physx on High on my ol' GTX 460 as a dedicated processor and everything else being maxed out on the 680 I've had great performance. Tessellation is fantastically implemented here. The snow looks awesome, especially when choppers are bearing down on you. This DX11 implementation is much much better than Arkham City's. I see a few framedrops here and there, maybe down to 55ish, but almost always at 60+. I runs a dream, the game itself is great.

awesome news! AC ran pretty good on my 5850 minus some strange jumps flying around the city. Is this with DX11 stuff on? I don't think I used any of that in AC because it didn't look much different.

Yeah, and now that I tested with PhysX High I see FPS doesn't dip below 30. Still, I'm not noticing immediately the benefit, so I think I'll stick with Normal like the guide suggests (not that it addressed the 560 Ti, but it's the same as the 650 Ti that's a tier above on Tom's Hardware's graphic card ranking so it's probably the same anyway.)
 
I'm surprised that my old hardware can run this game at 55-60fps most of the time, sometimes even going above 70fps. It dips to low 40s during big fights and to mid 30s when dealing final blow.

I got all settings maxed out including physx. Only AA is set to FXAA High. Vsync off without any tearing

My specs:
Windows 8.1
i7 950 stock
GTX 580 stock
6GB RAM

Might lower the physx as I don't see anything special with it to get more stable framerate.
 
1080p, high FXAA (haven't tested MSAA yet) everything else maxed except physx.
seems like a stable 60fps with 2x 6950's
 
On an i5 2500k @ stock, 7950 3gb, 4gb ram I'm getting a fairly steady 60 with a few dips but nothing that affects gameplay really with everything maxed out bar AA. Soon as I switch for on FXAA High to MSAA 2x, it halves my fps.
 
Anyone notice if you ALT/TAB out of the game your GPU temps skyrocket? Mine was at 80 degrees while I was browsing gaf, restarted my computer, jumped back into the game and my temps were fine again, back down to about 65ish, played/checked afterburner, minimized again and boom, fan on full, temps back up. I hate that.

I had that issue as well, it just cuts off, no music, no voices, no sfx, but you can still hear sound effects going in the menus...
Game is running smoothly for me, except in the beginning, every time you switch areas or it's saving you get micro freezes (installed on an SSD).
Combat is way too sped up, and yet somehow doesn't feel as fluid as before, for example in AC, when you had to interrogate some bad guy, you beat up all of them dudes and then to interrogate the one left, your last would transition to the interrogate him, wether he was stunned, on the ground, etc...
Here it looks a bit janky, I should RT + Y to finish the last goon, and get the prompt afterwards to interrogate him.

Small nitpicks, but overall setting does sound good, voices are as good as before, and looks like there's some things to do judging from the city amp and the challenges in the batcave!

Yeah on DX11 the game just gobbles FPS with MSAA. Not worth it at all. Haven't tried DX9 mode yet, but DX11 looks the best and using downsampling, I don't even need AA. Maybe I'll add in some SMAA just to get any shader aliasing that might pop up, but so far the image is 99% clean.
 
Game does not want to launch for me, just keeps a windowed black screen, tried verifying, even re-downloading it but no luck so far.

Also putting it to run with admin rights and compatibility makes it popup a ''needs steam running to start'' message.

Edit: just checked to be sure i was running the latest drivers that are for this game and i do, weird, never had to fuck around with a game this much at launch, running w8.1 if that matters.

Edit 2: even tried to see if i had my audio settings too high which causes problems with sutff like Dead Rising 2 and used to plague Skyrim before it was fixed but still won't make it launch....me sad...want to play game.

Edit 3: downloaded AC Goty, same issue with the blackscreen and it not launching, so i guess it's just Arkham games that have this issue on my pc...ugh.
 
DX11 DoF kills my framerate.

Otherwise, I can play locked 60fps near everything maxed with physx on normal.

Loaded it up with just about everything on (and 4x MSAA) and went into a big challenge room. Got a framerate that bounces around below 60fps (lowest was 43fps). Pleasantly surprised by that. I'll probably knock one or two things down to get 60fps solid.
 
Cant place my finger on why, but this game looks considerably worse than City, even with all the goodies enabled. Having fun wither way.

The textures do look like a downgrade compared to City. Less detail and more consoleish. Might be the TXAA, I haven't really played with it off. I will take a slight blur over shimmering/aliasing.
 
3570k + 7870xt. Only played a bit of the intro, but I can get a solid 70fps or so with most on normal + dx11 for geometric thingy. World looks a bit less interesting than AA and AC imo, but i really dig batman's new/old suit, so i'm happy enough.


I REEAAAAALLLY think i should go nvidia again for next gpu. I feel like i'm missing out on the physx stuff for this and other games.

I think you are right. It seems the asset quality has taken a bit of a hit since the last game. I'm playing with MSAA f.y.i.

I started the game (3xSLI 680GTX) and noticed constant judder while fraps show constant 60 fps. Judder is there at max settings and lowest settings. Installed 313.58 whql drivers and judder is the same.

Then I opened bmengine.ini and changed MaxSmoothedFrameRate from -1 (no limit) to 60 and then game is smooth. DaGSyncFeel :P Of course, bSmoothframerate must be 'TRUE'.

There are two MaxSmoothedFrameRate inside bmengine.ini, it's the last one.


Game is really awesome.
 
After hours of trial and error, the only decent outcome I've had is by turning off DOF. It has helped the framerate considerably but there are drops here and there when traversing the city. Before that, I was having huge drops during combat. There are the occasional drops when going through different areas but I guess it's okay.

Hoping AMD releases an update soon. Clearly, this is a current gen game and shouldn't have these issues while running.

From what I'm reading, this game works better on Nvidia cards than it does AMD.

Are you disabling just DX11 DOF or turning it off entirely?
 
Seemingly running it at 60fps 99% of the time, everything maximum, 4x MSAA instead of TXAA.

Interesting. I will try this when I get home. Limiting to 60 with Precision made the game very smooth, but it still got juddery at times and pausing/unpausing would fix it for a few minutes before it popped back up again.

This seems promising. I had to lower the resolution to 1080p yesterday to get an acceptable experience (everything else maxed, physx high, TXAAx4). This was with 2xSLI 780GTX and an overclocked i5 3570k. I will try your fix when I get home from work. Btw, have you tried experimenting with physx? Big difference between normal/high in terms of performance on your sli setup?
 
Played the first ~45 mins of this last night before bed. I'm playing on a Pioneer Kuro so I can't do more than 1080p60. Had DX11 on, most settings on highest, FXAA low and Nvidia features off (Physx, etc). Seemed to stay at 60 most of the time with only the occasional stutters. Looks fantastic IMO.

3570K @ ~4.2
3GB 7970 not overclocked
8GB Samsung RAM
 
I've played a bit further than my last update, through the
penguin's boat lair.
Basically it's just heavy physx smoke when I get slow down, the rest of the time I get totally fluid 60fps. I could drop the physx down but....seriously, the physx in this game is the best I've seen, alongside Metro LL. The moving smoke looks amazing.

No performance problems here, was a sync problem. Same happened in UE3 games when sli 2XX series if framerate wasn't capped at 60.
 
I'm kind of surprised how well this game runs.

2500K OC'ed to 4.5ghz.
16gb of ram
SLI 2 x 680s with just the latest driver, no tweaking

Max everything at 1080p.

Game runs around 90 fps always. Dipped to around 75 while fighting
croc
but thats nothing. Very impressed graphically so far.
 
My rig is based around an OC'd i5 2500k and GTX 570.

I don't have time to really play right now but I wanted to at least jump in and fiddle with the options a bit. I set the options at levels I considered optimistically high and was going to work back to something acceptable from there, but was shocked to find it play pretty flawlessly from the start. However, I've only been in some tight quarters along with a quick test in one of the predator challenge maps.

What I really want to do is test the performance gliding around in the open city. How long do you have to play before you get to do that?
