Batman Telltale PC Port is a mess (seemingly defaults to integrated GPU) [Fixed]

Good news, 6700k, 16 gigs DDR4, Sli 1080s, and it's running perfectly at 4k.

Only issue is that my XOne controller doesn't seem to work right. Some buttons work, some don't. I think I was having to push LT instead of RT, also seemed like down on the stick wasn't working. Any fix for this that people are aware of?

I saw a customer service reply on the steam message board. Apparently Tell Tale only fully support 360 controllers for PC. I kid you not. I had to switch controllers myself.

Bought the game and played 44 minutes so far, technical issues I've hit:

- The UI and menu font looks bad, like there's no anti-aliasing
- And on that note, the anti-aliasing in the game is either broke or straight sucks
- Telltale jank in scene transitions still exists
- Some UI prompts were missing during a QTE (triggered correctly anyway, thank fuck, that'd be a hell of a bug if it didn't)
- FPS dropped like a stone when I was given free control of movement (and I'm on a 980)

And here's the kicker, when you first gain access to the Batcave, I went to check out the character codex and found the Batcomputer screen would not go away even after technically exiting the menu, so I had to quit the game because I couldn't see shit.

I have no idea what makes this engine 'new', because it sure doesn't look or present itself better than other Telltale games to date. I've not had any problems with Telltale's games on PC until now, so this is fucking disappointing.

As for the game content, I didn't warm up to it immediately but once we started getting into the character interactions, I was enjoying it. Then I hit the issue that caused me to have to exit the game.

Debating a refund and waiting until there's a patch, or even until the series is finished so I can buy it on sale. Have Telltale said anything about PC performance or naw?

No controller issues for me and my X1 wireless pad but I'm on W10 Anniversary, that might've improved compatibility. Also running fine except some very minor stutters, Michonne was so much worse and this also looks noticeably better.

Wasn't this meant to run on their new engine? Lmao.

Laziest devs out there IMO, the only one I've played and loved in the last 3 years has been Tales from the Borderlands.

A Telltale game is a technical mess? What? You're kidding me.

I'll probably still get it one day on PS4...when it's on sale.

This is what I'm sayin. The IP is fucking cursed on PC apparently. Shame really as Arkham Asylum and City were fantastic on PC.

Well, City has (had?) a woefully unoptimised D3D11 renderer, but, yeah, it's fine in D3D9.

Never buy a Telltale game at release, wait until it's ÂŁ5 in the Steam sale and it's usually fixed and playable by then.

Has there ever been a company this technically incompetent game after game that manages to keep the lights on?
Other than Bethesda.

Does the game ignore your graphics card and go for the Intel card without fail, or is it external to it?

I've had that issue with games before and it was really annoying before I found out what was happening. Except it was always because of my computer's Nvidia control panel settings (and then those getting reverted when it happened again), not the game's fault.

You are correct, I remember being pretty blown away by how crippling the DX11 features were to my GPU which was a 680 at the time that I tried the game. That being said, the port was, for the most part, sound and functional, and as an earlier poster mentioned Origins was also a good port so I should of mentioned that as well.

It is why I haven't played Tales from the Borderlands yet. I can not use my steam controller.

I've always used my DS4 to play Telltale games without issue.

Can't even downsample with DSR because the game doesn't have proper fullscreen. Selecting it only provides a borderless window. Setting the resolution to 4K provides no image quality benefits, yet the GPU is still getting taxed as though it's actually working.

Isn't every Telltale port pretty bad for PC?

No? I played through Tales from the Borderlands on PC last year, can't recall any issues.

Also surprised defaulting to an integrated GPU is highlighted as the main problem in the title. With a gaming laptop this happens to me a good 30-40% of the games I try to run. Sounds like there are much bigger issues with this port.

The question is if this is something they will patch. Telltale isn't exactly known for patching their games. They usually shrug and just go on doing what they do.

I had to go in settings and put it to full screen and 1080p etc., but it ran fine after.

Only issue I had is it didn't detect my Xbox 1 Elite controller, but I ended up liking playing with keyboard and mouse anyway.

i7 2600k, 16gb ram and a 970.

Runs alright at 1080p. Had one glitch where I was stuck on a menu screen but that's it.

Lots of dips to 40fps though. Seems to be when the game uses smoke or any transparency effects.

FYI the integrated GPU being the default isn't really in your hands as a developer, unless Nvidia or whoever put out an update adding your executable to their list it's going to default to whatever the driver defaults to.

It fucking sucks actually, especially for smaller devs who have no pull with the GPU makers, but I'm surprised it's affecting TT.

Urghhh...the moment I heard they still uses the old engine, I knew there would be trouble.
Should've opted for UE4 instead, though I wonder if the save import can still works.

How I fixed it for me:

Desktop PC, went into Device Manager and Disabled the integrated HD4000.
Then relaunched Batman and it's at full speed by my 980 Ti

Wut
No their games run perfectly fine on pc the jank is due to the gfx engine or tool that telltale uses
Ive played many of their games on pc and all of them ran perfectly for me
At the end of th day it all comes down to one's laptop or pc specs

Edit- it is the console games that are the ports btw :v

Never had any trouble with Telltale games on PC, I am trying this out in a few hours. At the end of the day they are never technical master pieces. I play these on K+B.

I wouldn't dream of gaming on a laptop, I also game on fairly decent pc's so usual never have much trouble, but other people are far more picky on certain aspects of games than me. I am more picky in terms of Hardware I suppose.

You'd think that Telltale would have been fucking punished by consumers for their incompetent tech, yet they keep getting away with it.
