Battleborn or Overwatch? Which should I get and why?

Battleborn plays like shit. I was surprised at how bad the game actually was when I played the closed beta.

It's terrible.

Overwatch is fantastic. Especially with a group of friends.

Battleborn is going to be a dead game in a matter of weeks.

Oh wow didnt even know you guys played the beta already. That sounds awful.

Battleborn is the Antz and Shark Tale to Overwatch's A Bug's Life and Finding Nemo.

Honestly though, it depends on what you're looking for. Overwatch is strictly a competitive objective based team shooter while Battleborn has more co-op and solo modes. Battleborn has competitive multiplayer but it's styled after MOBAs. Personally having tried both games, I prefer Overwatch. I really dislike how inconsistent and angular the Battleborn art is and I dislike how it plays even more. Gearbox humour is terrible too.

From what I played of Battleborn's closed beta, the gameplay(and the variety) was pretty fun. Going from a gatling gun wielding tank to a dual wielding melee glass cannon in separate matches was great.

However the UI and the menus were pretty bad, just bland and last gen looking. And the networking was awful, took forever to find a match. Will play the open beta to see if any of this was improved.

Also, that ugly player highlight line needs to go away.

I've heard nothing but positive impressions and hype for Overwatch

I've heard very little hype and positive impressions for Battleborn

Going to be playing both myself, but if I was only going with one, I don't see how the answer could or would be anything but Overwatch.

Overwatch has been the best game I have played so far this year. That's while it was in BETA. I cannot wait for that game to come out. Battleborn looks more moba-esque and I am not sure if I can handle another one.

As mentioned, Battleborn is made by Blizzard, a company who supports their games for a long time after release.
The other game is made by Gearbox.

I had fun with Overwatch. I didn't have fun with Battleborn. I like the concept but I don't think it was executed well. The weapons feel like pea shooters. There isn't any weight behind any of the hits. Also, the character designs in Battleborn are bad. Everyone looks like a stick figure with thin lanky arms and legs. There are a few exceptions but overall it's very disappointing. I do like the birdman though. Whoever made birdman should have been in charge of the creative team to create more characters like it.

I mean...most games let you choose from different classes. Not sure how that's a positive for Battleborn.

The shooting just felt extremely lackluster and the characters can't even come close to being as great as the Overwatch characters.

It's a night and day difference.

I remember a lot of people not having a great time with the game during the closed beta.

And you know what happened right after that closed beta? It got delayed.

IIRC, Battleborn is gonna have F2P multi-player no?

Buy Overwatch then download Battleborn F2P version, if you like it, then buy the single play/local CO-OP later.

Or.....just play the betas like its been suggested already.

Edit: searched and guess I was wrong, only future multi-player and character updates will be free, not the game mode itself.

Overwatch

Battleborn has everything going against it

Battleborn is a 60 dollar retail video game

uhhh

Really wish Overwatch had a single player campaign. I love Blizzard SP game stories and universes. The animated short they've made for the game make me really want a single player, that being said I'd prob still go with Overwatch just based on feedback and Blizzards track record. I will be trying both betas though to make sure.

Not saying it's better now (I haven't played it at all), but isn't that exactly what you want them to do if closed beta feedback is negative?

I'm very excited to try out Overwatch, Blizzard has never disappointed me and all these impressions I've been reading really fuel my hype.

Meanwhile I have little faith in Gearbox as I'm one of those who did not enjoy the shooting in the Borderlands games. I'm going to give the open beta a whirl, because who knows, but I'm not expecting much.

The more I see of Battleborn, the more I'd be okay with Battleborn existing.

Then I hear the dialogue and I'm back to square one.

Overwatch is amazing. I can't say how it'll perform on consoles though. I feel like overwatch is a safe bet in terms of community size, while I feel like battleborn could just bomb on that front.

The amount of negative buzz around Battleborn is a little baffling. It ran rough (it was an alpha and was 4+ months ago) but the actual shooting, humor, and wide variety of classes were there. No offense to overwatch but pure mp games for 60 bucks with little to no depth aside from buying skins doesn't sound that great.

Overwatch should be amazing on consoles because the main risk I would "guess" would be the controls. And since I use a controller with PC version already sometimes I think the main risk is mitigated.

I usually play with characters like Mercy which is kinda not as twitch dependent.

Isn't it 40 dollars? I thought the 60 dollar version just comes with extra cosmetic stuff for other Blizzard games and a few skins.

Do you want to still be able to find matches a month after launch?

If the answer is yes, get Overwatch.

It's 40 dollars, and does depth mean 'progression system' in your mental dictionary? Is Counter-Strike not a deep game in your eyes?

The depth in Overwatch comes from mastering each character and learning the maps and strategies and character synergies. At least that's how I see it.

I'm confused. Do you really believe depth comes from progression? Like, if you unlocked more abilities after playing X amount of time, that is depth?

Overwatch has tons of depth. You just get all that depth all at once.

Both have 25 characters and 3 mp modes. BB has a campaign though, which can be done split-screen for what it's worth. Borderlands is one of my favorite franchises, and while other Gearbox stuff may be poor this is by the Borderlands team and looks to have a crazy amount of content. Borderlands still gets updated as well, even the console versions got updates just recently.

I'm interested in both, but if you're not a mp focused player then Battleborn would be the way to go out of the two.

Do we have any indication that the single player will be different from "the multiplayer, but with bots and some tacked on story"?

There are videos of a sp/coop level on youtube. From what I played it was similar to Borderlands. Anyway it will be in the open beta at the end of next week.

Overwatch is going to be a juggernaut. Lot of ex-TF2 players out there who have been waiting for the next big thing and it is going to be Overwatch.

Overwatch really has no direct competition either, whereas Battleborn is diving into a crowded field already dominated by a couple heavyweights.

They're two totally separate games though.

Battleborn is more like an action-MOBA (ala: Smite, Paragon) and Overwatch is more of a typical team-based FPS (think TF2 for the easiest comparison). So do you want more of a Smite experience or more of a TF2 experience?

I'm personally leaning more towards Overwatch (though I'm still not totally sold on it) simply because I'm not a big fan of MOBAs and if I was, there are already some good and free options out there I could play instead.

Overwatch is the easy choice here. Blizzard quality is A+. Even when they fumble (vanilla Diablo 3) their long term support of their games pretty much guarantees your purchase won't be a waste. Overwatch will only get better and better for years to come. I couldn't guarantee the same for Battleborn.

Overwatch is from Blizzard.
Battleborn is from Gearbox, a company that seems incapable of making a good game unless it's called Borderlands.

Overwatch.
Why would you buy anything associated with Randy Pitchford?

Battleborn is from Gearbox. I think that's all I need to know.

Overwatch, simply because Gearbox's founder can fudge off.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

One has zero ties to Randy Pitchford, thankfully.

Haha! The Randy Pitchford/ Gearbox hate is palpable.

I can't recall seeing such universal negativity about a game before release until Battleborn. I can't say I'm terribly interested personally, but if they have an open beta I'll check it out.

I pre-ordered Overwatch a long time ago because I thought it would raise my chances of getting into the closed beta, but sadly I have been denied.

Isn't the 60 dollar version the only version available on consoles?

As for depth, I may have used the wrong word. I guess I mean there seems to more content available on battleborn with the inclusion of single and multiplayer modes.
