Battlefield 1 PC Performance Thread

Wondering if gaffers can give me some advice here.
So my last PC hardware purchase was a completely new rig in 2011 for Battlefield 3
Specs are:

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 590 - 3 GB - (PCI-E)
Asus P8P67 (Intel P67) - B3
Cooler Master 750W PSU - Low Noise
Intel Core i7 2600K Unlocked (4 x 3.4 GHz) 8MB OEM (not currently overclocked)
Corsair 8GB XMS3 PC3-12800 1600MHz (2x4GB) - Lifetime Warranty (DDR3)
Antec Midi Three Hundred Black
500 GB SATA-II 16MB

I want to be able to run it on ultra/very high at 1080p/60fps
Do you think it'd be easy enough to just upgrade the graphics card to a 1070 and upgrade to 16gb RAM? Would I need to change the motherboard?
Apparently the i7 2600k is still pretty decent, came high in a cpu benchmark I saw, reckon that's ok?
Advice would be much appreciated!

overclock the cpu and upgrade the ram and gpu. You'll be good for another 3-4 years.
If you dont have an SSD, go buy one <- best upgrade ever.

Why is that?

I remember the old days when you'd select between DX8 and 9 and the difference in visuals would be huge.

Mainly because the DX12 API doesn't really have obvious graphical improvements over the DX11 API, and instead, focuses on reducing CPU overhead and virtually eliminating driver dependency for to-the-metal performance gains. DX12 also takes advantage of the much touted Async compute, but we're only looking at a 5-10% performance increase in best case scenarios.

In fact, the only time I've seen a difference graphically between DX11 and DX12 was Rise of the Tomb Raider. And in that case, DX12 was actually the inferior API because of its incompatibility with VXAO.

Long story short, it appears DX12 is really only beneficial in CPU limited systems, and, at best, GPU limited systems (especially Nvidia) are going to see little gains or equal performance in DX12 when compared to DX11.

tl;dr: Meh.

6600k
980ti
16gb

I can run this game at 60+fps on this set up no problem at Ultra settings but I do get stuttering every so often, probably CPU bottleneck. When I turn everything down to high, CPU usage stays at 100% but the stuttering goes away.

Anyone got any idea what settings are best to turn from Ultra > High to eliminate stuttering or what settings are most CPU dependent?

Even on the lowest settings I still see 100% CPU usage in some places. I don't think it's possible to remove all stutter on i5s right now, gotta wait for game updates or driver releases to see if that changes.

Can someone tell me if I can run at a solid 60fps on Ultra settings at 1440p with my PC?

Intel Core i7 6700K (OC'ed to 4.6GHz)
NVIDIA GTX 1070
16GB RAM (DDR4)
SSD (not a super fast one it's a 480GB SandDisk I got on sale a year ago but it is plugged into the SATA 3 connection).

i5-6600K 3.5GHz
16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 2666MHz
850 EVO 500GB ssd
GTX 980 Ti 6GB

I get around 75fps with medium preset running at 1080p. I reformatted my pc, installed the graphics drivers fresh and just this game and still got the same performance.

So i still got some problems with Battlefield 1.

I can only start the game if i clean install my GPU drivers every time i want to start Battlefield 1. If i don´t do that i only get the message "Battlefield 1 stopped working" when i try to launch it in Origin. I also tried older GPU Drivers but that didn´t help.

My specs:

I7 6700K
GTX 1080
16GB DDR4
Windows 10 Anniversary

I already tried:

-deleting the Profsave folder
-Compatibility mode
-starting as an admin
-repairing Battlefield 1
-re-installing Origin
-reinstalling Battlefield 1

i5-6600K 3.5GHz
16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 2666MHz
850 EVO 500GB ssd
GTX 980 Ti 6GB

You are most likely CPU limited so you can throw everything to Ultra and get same performance. I average around 100FPS with i5 6600K @ 4.2GHz, 16GB and 980Ti when game is 1080p @ Ultra settings. Caps out my CPU to 100%.

The pasted part is the DX12 results if it's not clear enough. Basically even DICE can't outrun NV's DX11 driver. Or maybe they just aren't trying, considering that there's like zero improvements on AMD h/w as well.

That minimum spec for CPU had me worried at first because that's what I just used over the weekend with a 1060 6 GB card. Should be fine if I decide to get this on PC over PS4.

Hmm don't think my alienware alpha can hang with this. Will have to wait for some tests. Don't make me upgrade, dammit.

i3-6100
950 2GB OC
8GB (cant remember the speed)
At 1280x1024

70 fps at medium settings on Dx11, sometimes goes up to 100 but just in empty spaces and stuff like that.

The most awesome thing is that even at medium, and not being HD, still looks freakin amazing.

That feeling when your brand new processor you bought this year is on a "minimum" specs list already.

TIME TO UPGRADE BOYS!

Lol, jk, I'm poor already.

I ran the beta on Medium with some high on my old 660ti and yeah...game still looks incredible. Bought a new card so I am hoping to push it at least to all high but my CPU might be a problem. Either way even if I have to play on Medium I won't be disappointed.

Guess my i7-870 has finally met its match...paired with a GTX 970 and I'm getting a lot of hitching on some maps.

Going with PS4 version for now.

Will play the rest of my trial on PC though so I'd really like to stay at the high preset but what are the most resource hungry settings I should start turning down?

What cpu? No way its brand new and not enough for something.
Unless its AMD, then it was in need for upgrade since you bought it.

This game easily pushes OC'd i5 6600K to 100% and keeps it there. i5 6600K is minimum Intel CPU for BF1.

Are non-HT quads really fucked for smooth 60fps? I refuse to believe this isn't just some bug soon to be fixed around release.

Whether or not BF1 has issues with CPU usage, HT (along with more physical cores) has to become a real performance factor in PC gaming at some point if technology is to continue moving forward. Might as well be now; long time coming, I say.

There is a very important note though, currently Nvidia drops frames like it did with Doom under Vulkan, which was later fixed by a new driver.
AMD does not drop frames but the frametimes aren't good under DX12.
Both things could improve with the final version and upcoming drivers.

The current results shouldn't be viewed as final.

ouch what? It's a 480 againts a 1080 lol.

Anyway, as Dr_Rus said, DICE didn't even try with DX12.

Sometimes brevity appears to be the correct option...until it doesn't. I didn't mean "Ouch," as in, "the 480 is so far behind 1080." I meant "Ouch," as in, "it's sad AMD is seeing no performance gains, and Nvidia, is yet again, seeing performance reduction with DX12."

I don't think DX12 means what we think it means :P

Guess it's time to finally upgrade from my 2500k. :(

Been running that thing at 4.5GHz for over 4 years.

Wonder if I should bite the bullet and buy a Titan X as well or just wait until next year. Currently running a 980ti.

No point in upgrading GPU.

Yeah I need to refrain from spending that much on a GPU. I am playing with a XB271HU though and would like to get as much FPS consistently as possible. I wish they would have dropped the 1080ti by now.

Just dropped $1200 on a a new set up (without GPU/Monitor) right now should hopefully get it in the next day or two. Don't feel like driving to CoI to will call from Newegg.

My bad, then.
Yes, DICE did a bad job with DX12.

Wish there were better options for AO in this game. The haloing effect you get when you are up against a wall is pretty distracting.

i5-2500k @4.2Ghz
1070
16gb RAM
On an SSD

1080p/60fps

Yay or nay?

I have the same rig, just @4.5Ghz. In the beta I dropped to 40-50 FPS on ultra sometimes if shit hit the fan in the little village center. And generally my CPU was always at 100% while GPU never used more than 70%. Clearly its bottlenecking, but its still playable nonetheless if you can deal with a few dips here and there. I ended up playing on a High/Ultra mix as I wouldnt drop below 55 in that case if I remember correctly.

Easily.

I run at full ultra 3440x1440 on an i5 4690k (not overclocked), 16 gigs DDR3 ram and a 1070 at stock. Pretty much above 60fps all the time except when a load of crazy stuff happens (only saw this once) and it dropped to 40fps for a couple of seconds. I probably wouldn't have got some drops with a mild overclock of the CPU.

Does anyone know if they fixed the resolution scaling? Last I read (about a month ago) that 42% was actually your native res and 50% was a bit higher yet 100% is 2x your res. If you play on a 1440p monitor at 50% the image was actually 2892x1627.

I think they fixed it. I'm playing at 2560 x 1440 with the resolution scaling set to +120% and I'm getting an average of 80 FPS on my GTX 1070 / 4790K / 16GB DDR3 build. And this is with all settings on Ultra too.

Yes, it sits at 100% as default now and behaves like it should.

I love the FPS boost I am seeing over the beta. +20fps. I know I'm at the high end of things but I went from 100-120 fps at 3440x1440. This game is amazing.

It's probably been asked already, but any advice or tips to help with the game using 100% of my CPU?

Got i5 3570k OC'd to 4.5GHz
16GB of RAM
GTX 1070.

Thanks.

i wouldnt be surprised if improvement is only found on gcn 1.1 as thats the revision in consoles. im sure dice could outrun nvidias dx11 driver, just not with a console focused code base. i dont think any developer is going to be able to put forth the amt of man hours required for such an effort.

Ouch as in DX12 renderer is a complete waste of time at this point. I don't think anyone expects a 480 to be competitive with a 1080.
Some of AMD's 8 core CPUs get a significant boost in DX12, particularly in extremely CPU limited scenarios. One of the main goals of DX12 was taking the load off the CPU. Intel and Nvidia don't seem to benefit much, if at all.

I have a similar set up right now, what settings are you running on? And do you still get the orange "fps drop icon"?

Guys I finally am going to upgrade my launch date 2500k.

With a 2600k I just grabbed off eBay for $170. I was debating dropping 700 on new mobo, ram and CPU but for 170 I can increase my FPS by 20% it looks like so probably a much better choice at the moment.

Lots of games lately seem to be taking advantage of the additional cores, especially anything that is cross platform with the consoles I guess due to the 8 available cores on ps4 and bone.

Doubtful that it's the same issue though. Do the game not have exclusive fullscreen in DX12?

Recent examples were kinda agaist this, with newer games running better on GCN3/4, not 1.

There's no gain on 480 in 720p either in PCGH results.

Worked fine for me on an i5 3570k in the beta so don't believe that minimum spec

This is my CPU as well. Played all 10 hours of my early access and never had an issue.

GTX 970
23.96 GB RAM
Driver Version 373.06
i5-3570k

I should update my CPU ASAP though.
