Battlefield 1943 for PSN/XBLA/PC

What is the heavy weapons class he's talking about? and why doesn't he mention Engineers (the class I always played)?

Interesting, for $20 I'll buy. Only 3 maps is kind of skimpy, but may be worth it. I never bought the whole game, but really enjoyed the demo. Was probably too good of a demo considering I never felt like buying the whole game.

Oh lord. Regenerating health? Unlimitied ammo? Three classes?

I could live with the 24 player limit since those game are often the most fun but damn that is n00b friendly fixes right there. And all infantry classes have weapons to take out tanks with? Why the hell would anyone hop into a tank then?!?

Every class has weapons to fight against the biggest tanks and armor.
Un - fucking - sold.

What in the hell is the point to even having classes. Wow, what complete and utter shit.

Since the beginning, the developers kept gimping tanks and boosting planes... now there is no fucking point in ever getting into a tank. Or should I say, BIG FUCKING TARGET for everyone. Just mere death traps now.

do people still play battlefield 2? I should just fucking install that again instead of dicking around in that piece of shit 2142, since it seems like we'll get a new battlefield on PC sometime around NEVER

yes, the still play the hell out of BF2.

I still miss the old old days of 1942, back when tanks were badass.

Maybe they're just talking about grenades? If they're giving every class a bazooka, I don't see much point in using a tank.

I'm pretty sure every class is going to be with a rifle, a semi-auto, some nades, a bazooka, couple of landmines, and an auto-using med-kit. Ditch the BF1943 title, just call it Rambo vs Musashi.

A healthy amount of people still play (I fire up 1942 every few months to play with a friend, there was around 1,000 people still playing last time I checked)

Man, all I want is a new version of Battlefield 1942, Road to Rome and Secret Weapons of World War II looking like that. I spent three years playing that game and its expansion packs, I haven't touched any other Battlefield game that's come out since then, I just don't care the more modern or futuristic settings. I have no interest in them. Seeing those three maps remade with Frostbite geeked me the fuck out but some of what I'm reading is rather worrisome.

I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Damn the hype for this deflated fast. I think I'll wait for BC2.

edit: If this is what they're doing why not just release Heroes for console?

Well this is fucking awful.

I should've known better than to believe EA could actually deliver on this.

Pray to God there's still some sort of hope for a fully realized, true Battlefield 3 PC title on the way.

Disappointing yes, but I think I will still purchase it because it will be fun regardless. It is not like I was going to play this game in a competitive league or anything :lol

Each class has weapons that can take out tanks, but this doesn't mean they all have rocket launchers. Maybe one class has a rocket launcher, one has TNT det packs, and the other has mines or something along those lines. Mines and det packs are only deadly at close range so tanks should still be viable if that is the case.

I hope unlimited ammo does not apply to grenades and rockets, if it only applies to the primary weapon it wouldn't be too overpowered.

EDIT: Oh, max 24 players... No sale.

It's not battlefield without 32 vs 32 matches.

Well I'm glad BF2 is still alive. I'm gonna stick with it.

:lol

I could perfectly be onboard with this, but there is competition around. Something EA seems to forget.

Auto ammo? get the fuck out of here.

:lol

DICE has managed to mess up another one of their games.

Edit: Do many people still play 1942? Never really played it, though I heard really good things about DC.

1000+ people were playing last time I played, and enough were playing to have a bunch of servers on Desert Combat.

1942 still lives, Gaf!

What the fuck are they doing to BF 1942? Just..... redo the game in the new engine. Dont mess with shit, jesus.

me too... i really wanted an updated (graphically) 1942. i don't mind only 24 players, don't even mind the three maps. i just want 1942 as it was.

the reason i don't play it on the pc though is b/c of the cheating.. which is insanely bad in 1942. i even downloaded and tried some of them just to see what they did and holy shit, there's stuff that shows you where everyone is at all times (little green and red text above their heads that you see even through walls). and it also shows you red dots on the mini-map. there's aim assist. there's shit like the ability to shoot tightly, even when running (just like you were laying down still). and all kinds of other crap. it's just not worth the frustration, despite my love for the game.

this game for me was going to solve all that, until i read how they utterly borked the shit out of it. it's not even a battlefield game at all now. they screwed over the need for classes, borked tanks even more and made it an arcade shooter along the like of quake 3. what the fuck is this shit DICE?

Don't get this when they should be expanding on Bad Company more. As a core game I prefer BFBC to either of the recent COD titles, but the game really could use some more maps--especially on the Conquest side. Hell I would be estatic with a few updated BF2 maps updated for BC.

Looks as though they're going to milk the frosbite engine for all it's worth before giving us Battlefield 3. :)

Sounds fucking terrible. Surely all that wasn't necessary to consolize the game.

I'm pretty sure it was necessary. Console players have a hard time playing shooters where they have limited ammo for their guns and the differences between classes would only confuse them.

At least it keeps some of the better aspects of Bad Company, so not all hope is lost yet.

How many millions of people play CoD4 online?

The fuck are you talking about?:lol

With the big modding community in BF, why wouldn't people be able to do a simple mod where the health doesn't regenerate?

Not the case with consoles then, but at least the PC version will be able to have it.

I liked this quote from the Kotaku preview:
Van Dyke wouldn't specify, but he said if this Battlefield gets a good reaction from fans, Dice might consider adding more and more content down the road.

Sounds promising with more maps.

Is this the only "HUD" image so far? Come on hurry up with the videos. :(

hmmmm I am considerably less excited now after hearing about the removal of classes and this regen health/ammo bullshit. The lower player count sucked, but was something I could live with. They have removed so much of the core of what made BF1942 so much fun it really boggles my mind how dev's think they can do this to games and still retain the charm of what made the orginal so popular.

Just for comparison, what other action shooters out there use unlimited ammo, is there any? I can't come up with any. I can accept health regen but I don't know why you would want to have unlimited ammo.

Sounds like hop on and have a fun time shooter, like Warhawk...

Orginal BF1942 was "hop on and have fun time shooter" even with classes and limited ammo. There is no valid reasons for these odd change imo.
