Battlefield 2042 - Angry Review

Jim Sterling literally evolved into a Karen in front of our eyes, and now we are witnessing the 'old man yells at cloud' evolution as well.

I don't really pay attention to Joe's content, but hey, he's one of the OG YouTubers that's still going. You have to respect that to some degree. I know I do. Much like all things, you're either into his content, or you're not. No harm done either way.

I enjoy aspects of it but the shit that's being said about it is warranted. Theirs a good amount of bad and questionable design decisions in the game. And theirs just some fundamental things that should be in the game and they're not because people at EA/DICE were outthinking themselves. No scratch that last part, because the DICE we once knew doesn't exist anymore.
Yeah, this is exactly how I feel. I've put hours into the game, and there's enough there to enjoy to a good degree. Well, for me at least. But it really IS a mess. It feels like a Battlefield game having some kind of weird identity crisis that was incredibly rushed.

The "soundtrack" is one of the weirdest, and worst soundtracks I've ever heard. It's like, "Who passed this?" That feeling exists with a lot of things in the game.

They were going for this weird disjointed industrial sound that they believe meshes with the fucked up nature of the No Pat world they are building. Not sure what they were thinking but here we are. Most Cyberpunk soundtracks are cool but jesus dice fucked this one up. Then again this game is only half way to cyberpunk so...whatever.

The real answer to "Why DICE?" is that DICE is a shell of its former self and is full of diversity hires and junior devs without strong leadership that has a clear vision for the property. That is why DICE Stockholm is effectively being shutdown and Vince Zampella has been given control of everything battlefield. The actual talent from the DICE you remember works for Embark Studios.

You were literally in another topic an hour ago defending people who like things, but then you come in here with this shitty take? Fuck off.
what are you talking about? and then you go to every one of my recent posts and react to it. You have mental problems dude.

I mean on the other hand he should be happy that there are so many bad games because he's making money out of flops ?

Watched it and I agree with him on the most points. The one thing that really angers me is the social part , that it's that hard to play with friends.

It really has been a "bottom" for the industry. Things have been getting worse and worse. It's like there's been an acceleration of bad dev/pub behavior since the new consoles have come out.

How does BF 2042 launch in this state when they didn't even have to worry about a campaign? How does Halo Infinite not have Slayer or Rumble Playlists? How does Rockstar allow such a disaster of a remaster to get released for $60. Cyberpunk 2077. Remaster after Remaster that is half assed because these companies outsource them to shitty studios. Microtransactions that boggle the mind in How expensive they are. On and on.
I agree with this…now this is valid.

I have a hard time believing those are actual sound tracks in the game. They literally sound like corrupted music files. Wow were they oddly bad.
Btw that woman did the Chernobyl and Joker soundtracks and I believe won an oscar.

That Battlefield shit sounds straight garbage though. xD

This Damn A.D.D generation. It's deplorable. You would never make it through the Xenogears podcast I have been watching. Their last episode was 4 hours long.

And that was just this episode, which was one of 20 total.

Nah, I'm pushing 40 and don't mind long things, but not bloody game reviews lol.

oh lol wrong thread,

anyway

nice review by the way, didn't had the performance problems that he has.

Everything else is kinda valid.

didn't bother watching, but im going to assume he spends at least half of the review complaining about shit that has already been fixed during the early access launch (like the OP hovercrafts).

Fucking lol

Also that review was great. Loved the 'Are ya winning son?' skit, the part where they couldn't even get game footage while filming the since the servers were down for hours, and that fucking soundtrack. Jesus.

Oh yeah, and the part where his rant video was demonitized and Youtube was in the game's marketing.

That part when the guy in the helicopter collided with a random body while at high altitude, if that were me playing I would have shit my pants because I could never ever expect that to happen.

The bullets being blocked by the crazy big, impenetrable, invisible, wide as a pool table is long hitbox on those power lines...hilarious!

The endless flotilla of hovercraft from the busted call in system...the broken spawning system...the complete lack of cohesion because you can't manage squads or easily play with your friends...the part where the new game barely has any destructible terrain but then the old games in portal mode has the same type of destruction they originally had...so then this means nobody over there knows how to port that old code in to their new game's systems or how to write new systems to do it...and a game series renown for the sound design now has absolutely flat sound presentation that's worse than the original from 2002.

...Oh yeah...and the dopey faces of the operators and the hilarious pop in, then the super low quality audio of the stupid quips they would say...awesome!

Talentless hacks over there at DICE. That place is a void of ability and good ideas.

I'm actually shocked that the destruction in this game is worse than previous BF titles???

What the fuck? I thought the destruction in this game was supposed to be next level?

What happened?

Angry Joe looks "2006 as fuck" but his points are always valid and he only releases his reviews after a realistic amount of playtime.
Not sure why he deserves hate.

He talks about it and he says even if they fix some things it's still a crap game with fundamental problems. Besides that the OP hovercraft was present in the launch game not only in the early access.

I just checked his YT channel. HIs sub count is 852k. Pretty sure that's LOWER than a year or so ago. lol. This guy will never break 1M.

Pretty hard in social media to go down in sub count.

My guess would be cross gen.

Maybe I misunderstood, but I thought the newer consoles and PC would have amazing, blow your balls off destruction. They were certainly hyping it.

I'm not sure cross gen is the problem. By all accounts, Battlefield 4 has better destruction than 2042 and Battlefield 4 was released in 2013.

Yeah I'm pretty sure they promised crazy destruction for PC and ps5, Xbsx.

I like Angry Reviews but i want them to be on AA and Single player AAA and indie games rather than the same games every year, for example he never reviews games like Outer Wilds, Nier, Divinity OS2, Hitman...

They never promised that. The game is cross gen and there will be limitations because of that, doubling the player count is already a big change and having 128 players battling it out within the same area at a consistent 60FPS or near it on current gen is a big technical feat imo.

Deserved. I really hope we see some changes in the AAA industry because they are hitting some damn lows recently, and it seems to become a norm.
Yep. This is what happens when you value getting a game out by a set date even though it is unfinished. Gone are the days of releasing a game when it was complete. Now we are the beta tested for these greedy ass fuckers. I'm quite frankly done with it.

ANOTHER solid, well thought out review from Joe with evidence. Joe has the group of people that don't watch his stuff and just judge him off his name not realizing that he puts more time and effort and thought into his reviews than 85% of the clowns from every other form of media.

that

Catching a games hiccups on video confuses people thinking the game overall has poor performance. Reviews look for bad weird stuff that's a fucked up mindset.

Same. Its like just give me the fucking cliff notes lol

I tend to like the buy, wait, rent, sale guy reviews as not every thing is a day 1 for me, not everything is a never and lots of things I'll consider later on etc. So I tend to hate hyperbolic edgelord reviews like "NEVER" or 0/10 and later on I find out the game is actually ok. Even reviews for MP titles I don't care for as it doesn't tell the story of the overall concept of the game long term. Even if I want to wait 6 months or a year or something like that, I just can't go based on what someone said a year ago about the first week of a online thing, as if that tells me what the fuck is going on today or something. MP titles should be in stages after DLC, patches, expansions etc like we see with MMOs as clearly things are subject to change.

When was it hyped or better yet what was being talked about? Link? I'm not doubting EA hyping up features for a game, simply not sure what was stated

Not really, this is a hot take that just needs to die already. Stop lying about this and stop just repeating what others have stated, sir...you factually couldn't do this shit in BF4

By default the destruction in BF has gotten better and more advanced as each game came out as they got more complex, not less. You could not fucking go thru a whole ass series of buildings in BF4..... prior to that structures going down where more so scripted vs physics based. I like BF4 too....I don't lie about what it was in 2013 and pretend fucking tech in 2021 is worse with zero evidence or something, this type of hyperbole is unnecessary and 2042 needs lots of work, but they need real fucking criticisms, not someone lying about shit..

^That last video clearly details the games destruction.

I'm not sure what they mean tbh, they might mean it being physics based

like in BFV tanks can go thru houses, but only to a degree, in this game they can go thru entire structures. I'm not sure if they mean that or some other advancement, but they'd hype up what they need to sell the game, but I'm unaware of any specific promise any exact feature or something. You'd need to give a link to that quote or something.

So people argued the same thing with BFV, but I believe every BF after Bad Company has gotten that comment, yet from what I've seen...the complexity of destruction has actually always went up in the BF series, not down, by default what ever new BF is out, usually is the one with the most complex, advanced destruction and I believe some people are confusing that with leveling a whole map or something weird like that or comparing the number of items as suppose to the actual destruction itself or something

Lies? Calm yourself, man. It's just a game. I have no reason to spread false information. I'm sure your shares in EA will be just fine.

Andrew Wilson said this about the game just before the official announcement.

"The game has everything that fans love about Battlefield; Epic Scale, all out warfare, unexpected moments, and game changing destruction. And it takes it all to the next level through the power of next-gen consoles and PC"

Now I don't know about you, but that made me think we'd be getting insane levels of destruction. Even more so if you were playing the game on next-gen/PC.

I'm sure others could find more quotes of EA hyping the game and it's features.

Regarding my comments on the destruction being worse than previous BF titles, I can only go by what's been said by players and fans of the BF series.
