Battlefield 3: New patch details (sept 4th)

RTFM

"Unfortunately the merging service is temporarily down.
You may proceed to Battlelog anyway and we will try to merge your friends again the next time you sign in.
In the meantime you will only be able see your Origin friends on Battlelog."

"We're currently looking into issues with the Origin friends list and game launching. If you are unable to join games after the patch: Right click BF3 in Origin and choose “Repair install” to fix the problem."

MY RAGE OVERRIDES THE MANUAL.

BONER.

Has been in there for a while now?

I really hope the case of the missing Friends list is solved soon though.

Ahh ok apparently it was not available for consoles. Do you have an ingame browser or is some sort of battlelog running on the PS3/Xbox360 as well?

He fucking DID IT.

Soo... for people like me who were offered an russian cd-key and had to patch the game to be played in english, this new patch is bad news?

2 Little birds at once. It's gonna be awesome!

It's... beautiful!!

I'm thinking that the infantry buff to take down heli's could largely be because there's gonna be a larger heli presence in Armored Kill. Yea, a couple people working together can take one down, but thats rare enough. Getting enough people to take down scores of heli's? Really unlikely except for 64 player PC matches or something.

EDIT: Also - yay at having more Rush maps.

EDIT2: Gotta ask again since its important - can you download the patch and the maps seperately?

I believe you can.

The amount of vehicles is scaled down a little to accommodate the console player limits so that probably won't be a problem.

Might not see that many choppers on one side on the consoles.

I highly doubt that you have to download the maps along with the patch, why would they give individual filesizes for both if you were forced to download them? The patch itself is so large (1,x gigs) because it'll include some of the new content from the dlc that can be used outside of the Armored Kill maps like weapons and such (by those who own the dlc ofc), same as the earlier expansions.

Why is that? didn't see anything mentioned about it in the patch notes...
I have no idea whatsoever, that's why I asked. A friend of mine gave me a russian cd-key for BF3, and I had to manually patch the game in order to be played in english, including system registry files and so on...

So since I'm new to the whole BF3 stuff, I don't know if the game being updated by Origin whill mess things up.

I want to make love to whoever does the sound design for anything related to Battlefield 3. The music in the trailers and in-game sound is so fucking good.

Why are the Official DICE servers deserted?

Who wants to do regular matches when you can play 1500 ticket matches that last 4 hours?

EDIT: Thanks for the answers above, guys. Also, if there's not gonna be that many heli's on the consoles, then I think the patch works, as well. Its hard to find people who work together to take them down. Yes, it takes away some of the teamwork aspect, but when the large majority dont use tight teamwork, its probably time to rebalance some things that dont favor the small minority. I can see why people would be upset with it, but in the end, it should make for a better experience for more people. I'm looking forward to it.

1500 tix servers suck

600-800 is the sweet spot

Interested in picking this up again, but I got a new PS3 a few days ago... is there any consensus on the PS3/360 versions or are they about samey?

Premium Slot-1 black dogtag = mmmmm... yes.
if I used premium dogtags, which I don't. Give me premium MINE and premium MVP #1 Slot-1 and maybe DICE
Ticket count on consoles in server info screen so lazy ass admins can't hide their shitty 500% choices from me = mmmmmm yes.

Based DICE.

There is some concern over input lag on the PS3 version. It's a problem many have mentioned but I'm not sure if its a set up thing or actual game fault as I don't have BF3 on a PS3.

The Xbox 360 version is fine for I.

Is there in-game chat for PC yet?

I made all my friends for BF2 through actually playing the game, and it was nice being able to chat with people even when my friends weren't online.

BF3 has been a completely voiceless experience for me on PC which made me drop the game after playing it for a couple weeks. So much more teamwork/productivity with voice chat.

I miss making a squad called "Voice" in BF2 and quickly become top squad in the server.

Also fixed mini-map plz

It has to be a setup thing, which is why it can't be patched any more than it is. I have zero input lag on my tv and neither do any of my friends on theirs. I'm a member of the Battlefield Zero Tolerance Podcast community & I play A LOT so I'm not just some plebe who doesn't know what he's saying.

It has to be due to image processing on certain tv's.

So, yeah, it will. Origin updated the game and I can't get it to run now via the web interface. I guess I'll have to wait for another patch.

For console players, 600-800 tickets usually means 40-60 minute matches. Thats just too long for my liking unless its a really competitive matchup with the two teams. And even then, only on occasion. I hate how everybody wants to do these, though. 100% ticket matches still take 13-20 minutes or so, which is plenty long. I'm just completely baffled that there's apparently so little demand for these regular 100% ticket matches.

Its still on a level playing field on consoles then. Halo Reach, Call of Duty and Battlefield 3, all enjoyable offering something for different tastes.

Maybe if the hit detection worked properly and the teams were 16 players for the bigger maps, I would agree. Just played a few matches, I'm still getting killed 2 seconds after getting into cover and out of the line of fire.
I'm still wandering around like an idiot if I don't get into a vehicle as soon as the match starts.

Battlefield 3 on consoles is just frustrating as shit. Just because it offers something different doesn't mean that it's a good offering.

Damn something must be wrong with me then becuase I've had plenty of fun and success playing BF3 online with my Xbox. You having a frustating time doesn't always translate to everyone having a frustating time.

I agree on that smaller player count not working on the bigger maps but thats maybe why I've leaned more to Team Deathmatch. Each to their own.

Default tickets please. If I can't take the objective then I can't take it. No biggie. Flipside to that is having to defend for an hour even though your owning and then one guy manages to slip through during this time and you're defending for a while AGAIN.

Battlelog down for anyone else?

That's not a hit detection problem, that's netcode compensation. The player that killed you, on his game, he hit you.

Firestorm sucks if you're not in a vehicle, but most other matches are pretty viable playing as infantry.

The getting behind cover and still dying thing is annoying, but it doesn't happen to me that much. Maybe once or twice every few matches. Its not a game-breaker by any means.
