Battlefield 3 Sells 8 Million Copies, Ships 12 Million

EA has put out an update on Battlefield 3's sales.

Game Informer said:
Electronic Arts' massive shooter just keeps on selling.

CFO Eric Brown announced during today's Baird Technology Conference in San Francisco the game has now sold 8 million copies to date. This is up from the 5 million EA sold during the game's first week on sale in late October.

Brown continued to say the publisher has now shipped 12 million copies of Battlefield 3. It shipped 10 million in the first week for comparison. A per platform breakdown of sales was not provided.

When a game makes we retry again and again after being disconnected for no obvious reason...well then it must be kinda good :D

I didn't want to believe and I'm not totally pleased with the console version, but Jesus Christ am I having fun with the game. A really nice surprise. So kuddos to them. I hope they support the console versions with even more maps(maybe some from Modern Combat) and a maybe a return of classic conquest?
 
8 million is within the domain of "CoD numbers," so the gauntlet has officially been thrown down. Bravo, DICE!
 
The multiplayer from the very short time I've played is solid fun & improves upon bfbc2 and bf2 IMO.
It deserves the sales coupled with some big advertisement campaigns to get the wheels rolling & the only real popular alternative to cod mw3 making it's not a big surprise.

Hopefully they release the individual platform sales eventually.
 
That's amazing but since this is a sales thread I've got to ask, have we got any figures for MW3? Pretty safe to say that beauty is past 8 million...........actually well past 12 million sold at this point.

We got Day 1 sales of 6.4 million I believe.

Unsure beyond that.

For perspective, MW3 sold more its first week in the UK than BF3 sold in the US.

Still, 8 million is nothing to sneeze at, it's easily the second-fastest selling game of the year despite tons of competition.

Oh ,but I did get the Limited Edition with Karkand.

Though that probably doesn't apply to most who got it on Black Friday. Most of the copies at Walmart were the regular with a few being the Limited. Though, at the Gamestop I went to later in the day, they had plenty of Limited editions.

100% agreed. Just need to remove suppressors for support machine guns. I've never had so much emotion in playing an online game outside of a fighting game. Being pinned down/rushing a victory/staring down the sights of a tank. The game is just incredibly intense.


Maybe even counterstrike...but... Finding it hard. Vehicles and destruction really go a long way.

Isn't Skyrim close? Recall 7 million shipped (half sold) Skyrim PR early on. It might be close, anyway.

BF3 was 5 million sold/10 million shipped first week.

Skyrim is solidly third though, since the next fastest is either Batman or Gears IIRC.

Didn't think it would do that well, still waiting for a balance patch/Karkand before I go back to it.

Not quite. Based off the XBL leaderboards (lowest ranked person on my friends list) MW3 has sold at least 8 million on the 360 alone already. Then when you factor in PS3 and PC sales it's probably at least double that at 16 million.

Battlefield is still a distant second to CoD, though these sales numbers are no doubt impressive.
