Battlefield 3 Sells 8 Million Copies, Ships 12 Million

U.S. and UK.

Activision never released global numbers. The other ones came from chartz IIRC, but more people reported them than normal.

I think some analyst said there was 9m preorders, which probably aided to that number being thrown around.

Glad to see it carve out a large chunk of pie for itself. Well done DICE. Will be interesting to see how long sales remain strong.

Bought black friday, right at 10pm, at wal mart (never fucking again wal mart), and it was actually their last Limited Edition copy at that! Too bad I have to wait until christmas before my wife lets me play it.

Honestly, Battlefield 3 was a two week rental until MW3 came out for me. I have about 25 hours logged into that game while I have about 2 and a half days on mw3 already.

I'm still disappointed in how I still can't even play with 3 other friends and be in the same team, let alone the same squad.

I'm afraid of 2012 and the inevitable release of Battlefield: Spec Ops, followed by Battlefield 4 in 2013, Battlefield:Spec Ops 2 in 2014, etc. ad nauseum.

PC or consoles? Works fine on the PC

Huh that's funny. I have about 150 hours in BF3 and 0 in MW3. I guess it balances itself out.

well done. this and respawn should hopefully :

the MW franchise. do it.

Just give me BF 2142 with the Frostbite 2.0 Engine Dice and call it a day.

Demize keeps mentioning that 2143 is a hot topic at DICE, but I can't tell if it's gone beyond that point.

They're just using Medal of Honor for the other years.

Undeserved. Sales are a result of the marketing blitz, meanwhile the game is a shadow of what the series once was with pared-down features, a worthless single player, and a woeful shortage of good maps.

What's with all the people saying the game doesn't deserve the sales? I'm loving the hell out of it?

It's the only MP game that can rip me away from Halo: Reach (my mainstay) aside from Gears of War 3 Horde Mode.

In any case, these numbers will be made to look quite quaint by Modern Warfare 3, but hey, every big game starts as a snowball before it rolls down the hill and grows.

I have over 600 hours of BF2, I loved it to death.

I can honestly say BF3 is better then BF2 by ALOT (gameplay wise), despite all the bumps.

It deserves all these sales, and more.

Yes? When a bad game sells well do you think it deserves to? Of course not.
Bad games don't sell well. Your taste means nothing on either it is a good or a bad game.

I find it funny that every single big game this season is selling well exactly when everyone's evoking the death of physical software.

i should have bought it when it was $25 during ea sales. oh well. will wait for christmas i guess.

Already traded it in because I had the sneaking suspicion that Dice had no idea what to do about it or how to fix it. Despite having perfectly functional controls in a build a mere 6 weeks older.

And based on the first patch, yeah, ditching the thing was the right thing to do. Don't really care how awesome the game is when it controls that terribly.

I suppose as a FPS it's okay. Battlefield 3 is not a good Battlefield game though. There are some silly ideas in this game (mortars, the IR scope, the entire unlock system). There are also some backwards ass design choices in this game that make me wonder if the same people who developed BF2 truly developed this game (no in-game VOIP at launch for PC, shitty squad management, shitty customization menu, shitty deployment UI and the shittiest maps of any mainline Battlefield game). The destruction is underwhelming since it bears similar resemblance and use as BC2. It doesn't change the landscape of how matches are played like commander mode did in BF2. It doesn't change how we play Conquest like Titan mode did in BF2142. There's really no selling point of this game.

As for the sales, I suppose DICE will just interpret it as them doing something right with the franchise and will continuing to not push the series forward in any way that brings more substance to it than the aesthetics. In fact I find it funny that it's gotten to the point where the playerbase has to be thankful that the devs rehashed BC2 into a game that resembles BF2. We don't expect any more from them, just the fact that this game was trying to be BF2 with better graphics and some destruction was enough to get people excited. Also what a dick move to put Conquest Assault in B2K and not the main game.

I can't speak for the singleplayer, as I never touched it, but the multiplayer is fantastic. So many jaw dropping moments, and battlelog is actually pretty incredible once you get used to it. Glad to see the game sold well.

I feel sorry for you that you can't enjoy such an awesome game.

Well deserved, the MP was really fun. I even played the beta for 30 hours or so. So, basically it outsold Bad Company 2 in such a short time.

Well it's a big shame that BF3 is in someways a downgrade from previous BF games for whatever reasons.
The maps are smaller and less complex. It even has less vehicles and capturable flags. But the overall production values are much, much higher in BF3. The game looks gorgeous on a PC.

I can't enjoy it because I don't enjoy military FPS and mltiplayer FPS in general anymore. Skyrim/Fallout/Divinity all the way.
