Battlefield 4 Battlepacks - It's back! In microtransaction form

Speaks for itself really...More mictrotransactions in my EA games

Here

Starting today, we are introducing a new way to acquire Battlepacks, the bundles of content that provide a mix of in-game items including accessories, emblem shapes, profile pictures, dog tags, XP boosts, knives, and paints. Battlepacks can still be earned through normal gameplay progressions, but we are now giving players the option to purchase Battlepacks as a shortcut to catch up with their friends on the Battlefield.

Bear in mind you can still get these through normal progression

Pricing will be $1 for Bronze Battlepacks, $2 for Silver Battlepacks, and $3 for Gold Battlepacks.

You get a Gold Battlepack for each level you gain starting at like.. 50 or so. You get them so fast - why'd anyone pay 3 bucks for a single one? :lol

Just as the fire that was Battlefield 4 starts to dwindle down, here comes EA throwing a can of gasoline on it.

I did my crime with the ME3 multiplayer. I'll never make the same mistake again. $3, and you might end up with a new knife. No thanks.

Who is going to buy these? The contents of a pack is too random to start paying money for, "Congratulations, you just unlocked a new portrait!"

I fell into this trap with Mass Effect 3 but it didn't feel as dirty because Bioware supported that game with free maps and content for such a long time. This on the other hand will be something I don't participate in.

lol battlepacks are so incredibly easy to come by, and relatively useless once you know what you like. Who would buy that?

I knew this was going to happen once they implemented this Battlepack system. More full priced games adapting the free to play model.

Yup, not really shocking when it's an EA game. I'm surprised that this wasn't in the game from the beginning.

Wait is that the current model for EA? Release a OK game and wait for people to buy it, wait a couple of months THEN BOOM microtransactions.

Or, you can just unlock a Gold Battlepack like every other match. FOR FREE.

But that takes time. Why waste time when you can waste money instead.

Man, I'll never get tired of the word "pack" when it comes to digital goods. It just makes me want to spend more money!

Hmm, $3 for a Gold Battlepack that will inevitably include a patch, some camo, and scopes for guns I don't use/haven't unlocked.

That sounds like a FABULOUS deal!

I just figured these had been on sale since launch.

I also kind of love the random approach. It's like you pay just to open it up and get a middle finger in your face.

It's awesome that they're giving gamers more choices. You can pay if you don't want to spend the time or you can still acquire them with no cost like usual. Pretty great of them.

Nah man, not for me. Before I stopped playing, I got the same Battlelog Icon three times over in separate Gold Battlepacks. Not impressed. They're only filled with random crappy scopes for sniper rifles that you don't even use anyway.

This seems to be pointless. The game already throws out battle packs like candy. You get gold ones every level after 50, you get them for each and every primary in the game, if you get premium you get a couple every other week. Im not even including the fact that xp boosts speed up the process.

What is the value for players who spend time with the game, earn specific gun upgrades /etc, if everyone else can just buy it? I guess the 'right' answer here is for everyone to just buy the packs, right?

Yeah, until Battlepacks become more rare in game, and the Gold Battlepacks you pay $3 for just "happen" to have better stuff than the free ones ever did, and the conversion to pay to win becomes complete.

Peter Moore, is that you?

I really don't know what to say to your post good sir. But I can reference this thread for you to express some of what people say to EA and Microtransactions.

A little help, huh? This isn't "a little help". EA is "solving" a problem that they PURPOSEFULLY created and are now charging money to "help you". Would you be thankfull if I sold you a crutch after I broke your leg? Yeah, probably not.
If a system doesn't allow you to unlock stuff in a reasonable pace, you should critize that, NOT be thankfull if you can pay money to bypass it.

Also this is a apt way of summing it up.

THIS is what makes you jump ship? This DLC is barely noticable. Only morons would pay for this since you can get a pack every other match.
It is our right and privilege as gamers to overreact about stuff like this.

Are you some sort of commie?

Does this mean that we can look forward to being charged for the ability to play CTF on all of the maps that don't have this game mode?
