Battlefield 4 Battlepacks - It's back! In microtransaction form

Does this mean that we can look forward to being charged for the ability to play CTF on all of the maps that don't have this game mode?
Quite clearly yes. Slippery slope never lies. I'm 93.2% sure we'll eventually have to start paying for new ammo magazines so we can reload.

People who want accessories the easy way and have cash to burn ?

Battlepacks don't even work that way lol. What you get is totally and completely random. You would likely get that attachment you are looking for faster by leveling the gun up and grinding for weapon specific battlepacks than screwing around with the bronze/silver/gold battlepacks. You may get a camo or a dog tag, you may get 3 camos, you might get some stickers, or a bunch of 25% xp boosts, or even the attachment you want...on a different gun.

It's awesome that they're giving gamers more choices. You can pay if you don't want to spend the time or you can still acquire them with no cost like usual. Pretty great of them.

Every time a publisher executive (or NeoGAF shill account) uses the term "choice", it always directly translates to "fucking the customer as hard as possible".

You get a Gold Battlepack for each level you gain starting at like.. 50 or so. You get them so fast - why'd anyone pay 3 bucks for a single one? :lol

Hit max rank. More accessories than silver/bronze in them.

But really, the smart way to go is do the individual guns to GUARANTEE you get accessories for a gun you want.

I reached 120/level cap this past weekend. You want to know what I got in my last gold?

4 25% EXP boosts (despite hitting cap)
1 Emblem for the Emblem maker that I won't use since I've been using the Q3A logo since launch.

Really, a huge dump on my face and they expect me to pay for that? No thanks, EA.

Is the game fixed now on the PC? not played in a while, about the time when they introduced the DLC which stressed the servers even more.

Only time I didn't mind Paying for RNG was Mass Effect, I'd throw in a few lest over Microsoft points and hopefully snag a new character or something.

I could understand $3 for a weapon specific battlepack or platinum one or something but for a single gold battlepack is stupid and buying bronze and silver battlepacks is insane

This was always the end goal for EA regarding the battlepacks. They will try to introduce the FIFA Ultimate Team card packs scheme into every game they have.

The only thing that surprised me is that it took them 7 months to implement it.

Of course. The whole battlepack thing reeked of microtransactions from the get-go.

And it does seem to be EA strategy to introduce that stuff and let it lie dormant for a while before broadcasting the milk signal.

are all of you that are complaining even playing the game? cuz its no problem to max out a gun if youre halfway decent in the game

For now, this is kind of meaning less, but...

If I were to put the financial squeeze on players, I would lock certain items behind pay-only battlepacks. For example, 100-200% XP boosts only come in paid battlepacks. And to make it worse, increase the amount of XP it takes to progress between levels.

I fear BF5 will be Dungeon Keeper-esque in terms on microtransactions.

Pathetic, EA what are you doing to battlefield?

They are gonna end up killing the only mp franchise I give a shit about.

The only surprising thing was the game didn't launch with this.

The complaints about this are pretty meaningless, though. You aren't missing out by not paying, and normal progression has not changed. Also not the first time a Battlefield game did this.

They were on the psn store for like an hour before they pulled it due to the cluster fuck.

The only reason it hasn't been reintroduced earlier is because the state of the game.

"Hi everyone! Here's a system that wastes your time! Don't like that? Well here's a way to waste your money instead!"

How about you don't waste our time or money. Only a fraction may pay money, but we all get a shitty grind.

Guys, guys, it's time to begin the revolution. Video gaming is broken by gr33dy publishers who just want to take your money and your wives. Arise, the fight back must begin, arm yourselves!

Or just don't buy them and get a grip kids.

Who is going to buy these? The contents of a pack is too random to start paying money for, "Congratulations, you just unlocked a new portrait!"

yeah, i've gotten so many shit gold battle packs i don't know who would bother or chance this.

People aren't buying anything that gives them a significant advantage.

You can unlock things really easily in BF4 if you stack a double xp weekend w/ the bonus xp that drops in the game.

But don't let that stop the hyperbole train.

We already lost the war.

They can figure out how to sell virtual items months after release, but they can't manage something as simple as preserving a fucking savegame.

This is gross.

Paying for this was in day 1, it was removed due to launch BF4 being launch BF4.

bwahahaa, the battlepacks are useless when they are free. ''oh look, another emblem, oh, its just a triangle, thanks DICE''.

They want to charge people for that? I would rather spend that on a scratch card. At least then, I have a physical shape for my money, even if I lose.

Its a problem because this takes advantage of people who would be new to the game. Anyone who's been playing this game for a significant amount of time would know that what they're selling is worthless relative to spending the time to unlock the stuff normally. And double xp weekends are only for premium members.

THIS is what makes you jump ship? This DLC is barely noticable. Only morons would pay for this since you can get a pack every other match.

Nah, what made me jump was the server issues and being a buggy game. This is just the icing on the bug infested cake.

I don't feel any empathy for people who spend their money on things without research. Especially for a couple dollars.

Not to mention you get the same packs as regular progression - you should be able to judge for yourself whether or not it's worth spending money on.

Only a few may pay money, but the design impacts us all.

I wonder if the people working on this couldn't have instead helped make the game actually playable a bit sooner?

Man these Battle packs build up so quickly, and are so meh.. funny thing is they'll probably make a million off this within a month or 2. If you charge for it, they will pay.
