Battlefield 4 Beta Thread: Prepare 4 Battle (Update to beta drivers)

The more I play this beta the more in love I am with BF4.

So... now that im playing support for the time being, i have a question.

Isn't the airburst supposed to explode after a certain range? because in my game its been unlimited range and no drop off, just getting multi kills everytime i parachute in now that obliteration is released.

Ok fuck it!!!! Downloading Windows8 Pro as we speak but lucky me was able to get a key from a family member not using W8. I'm interested to see what gains I get with other games so I shall report back tomorrow.

It explodes 3 meters after a range YOU set, not a predetermined one. When you are not aiming down the sites and have that strange triple bar crosshair aim the top of that crosshair at a object then aim down the sights. Your explosives will detonate three meters past that distance.

Ok thanks, i know its generally for getting people behind cover, and i just couldnt figure it out.

So I want to try this on Windows 8 but I don't want to download the Beta again how do I go about it? Here's my setup:

"C" drive has Windows 7 (my main use partition), "E" has Windows 8 installled and "D" has all the games, music, etc. How can I install Origin on the Windows 8 partition and make it detect the BF4 Beta so I don't have to redownload again?

Move Origin from C:\ to E:\?

I mean unless your file formats are different (NTSF to FAT) it's not going to do anything to move it, surely?

Traitor!!

Kidding, I'm using 8.1 and BF4 has been running nicely.

This has probably already been said with this many pages, but, this is one the worst looking games I've ever seen on PS3. It looks like when they show the development process before anything has shape or texture.

damn, looks like ill be reliving the old days as i did with BF2 when i had a rig that could barely run it decent enough for online play...thou it wasnt for long....dat 6600 :(and then that 8800 came to bless us all.

Still, the very first 8800 didn't show up for a year and a half following the release of BF2. It was glorious, however.

on Ebay there is a seller who sells windows 8 key for £30 for the upgrade to pro...

Are these safe?

as I read a forum where someone said all they do is sell the same key multiple times?

Did you see this yet? I put together a comparison between the three versions. 360 is even worse off than PS3 but both are hideous.

Wow, I didn't think it could get any worse. Also, gotta love those framerate dips when almost nothing is happening.

Someone, somewhere on the map fired a shot! -5 fps

When the building falls it's like looking through a photo album.

I think I'll wait for PS4.

Wow massive improvement. No more stuttering either. Finally used my old Windows 8 code to upgrade to Windows 8, updated my graphics drivers, and damn it's running good.
I'm on a i5 and 7850 and getting silky smooth framerate at Ultra on most important settings, SSAO, no MSAA, haven't really tweaked around yet. Wonder what Mantle will be able to bring it too.

it is a bit of a piss take that we all mostly have good rigs yet we are effectively being forced to upgrade to Windows 8...

I really don't see why they can not get it running as well on windows 7 :(

They've fixed Win7 performance problems with recent patch, at least for me. Night and day difference, although its still not perfect.

so I have probably stupidly bought a Win 8 Key off ebay for £30... I messaged the seller first and said are these unique

they obviously said yes, but I made sure I paid by credit card through paypal, so if in 3 months the key stops working I can issue a charge back

I can confirm that it's a lot better with newest patch. Instead of 100% CPU usage, I'm at ~80% with my 2500K @ 4,6GHz with Win 7.

So today I learned that you can refill only bullets out of the "small" ammo packs and the small ammo packs adds exactly 1 magazine.

If you want to refill grenades, RPG etc, you need the "big" ammo pack.

Nice montage man.

I still don't see what advantage would have the small packages over the big packages, mor than the ability to use it from a distance. The only strategic I see, once you unlock the big package, is use it along with it. Deploying the big packages for your squad near to you and the small one for the guy who runs ahead. But not being able to resuply grenades or explosives with that is really bad,

Is there a way to get it to stay fullscreen windowed? I set it like that and it stays for a round but next time I play it goes back to windowed and I have to hit alt-enter again. Rude behavior the way the game screws with not just one monitor but every monitor I have on this PC.

Their borderless windowed implementation has the game set to be always on top, which pretty much defeats the purpose of using it. I just have it set to windowed and maximize it.

There's a Digital Foundry article that does the comparison better:

The map is entirely empty if you aren't where the bomb is though. If you don't have a vehicle then you are more or less stuck. It's the downfall of the horseshoe shape to Shanghai and that stupid rubble pile. Paracel Storm looked like it played much better.

that's why there are Team Deathmatch and Domination modes, instant access to ~~~theaction~~~ for anyone that wants it.

I just realized you can hug and peak around corners! Anyone know how visible you are when you peak around corners? How does someone look when peaking around corners, from a third person perspective?

Game has not dropped under 60 post update. Same settings as before as well and I was definitely hitting the upper lower 40's rarely and lower 50's on occasion.

I agree the PS3 version is awful, I have checked out the beta myself, but any current copy of the PS3 retail version comes with the digital code to upgrade to the PS4 version for $10.

Considering Amazon right now also has a $10 credit if you preorder BF4 for the PS3, you basically get the PS4 version for free.

There are similar deals for the XBox 360 version, but they all require having to physically trade in the 360 version, so I opted for the PS3 version, and will do PS4 as soon as it releases.

All stats do a one time transfer as well. So pretty good deal for the PS4 version when all is said and done.

I am also double dipping on the PC, and will probably wind up primarily playing on it, so I might have just talked myself out of even picking up the console version at all.

RPGs locking onto stuff is the most idiotic new feature in BF4. Makes no sense at all.

They probably just added it because in BF3 it can be really tough to take out good heli and jet pilots with the base rpg since dumbfire launchers miss too often. Plus, although I could be wrong, for the rpg to home, you still need to have a sniper with you constantly marking the target.

Just watched the video, that is correct, someone has to be marking it as well.
That video was extremely helpful all around.

As primarily an engineer player, I applaud the new feature but if the beta is any indication, the opportunity to use it comes rarely in regular PUGs. With a good recon buddy, however, I could see us bringing down a lot of choppers.

Having an RPG lockon is pretty illogical, but gameplay and for balance, I guess we'll have to see. I do know that in BF3 Jav's were pretty worthless and Recon rarely used SOFLAM, so if this is a change to bring more usefulness to that, I'm all for it.

I'll always side with the balance towards infantry.

I'm holding judgment on anti-air options until final. It DOES seem like choppers are much more nimble now, which should help their survivability.
