Battlefield 4 Beta Thread: Prepare 4 Battle (Update to beta drivers)

There are ways for them to set the autobalance so it balances by squad and not by player, i.e., switches squads to different teams instead of players. There are server mods that do that.

I wondered how this was going to work before, since elevator is the only on-foot way of getting up there. Seems pretty damn obvious to just have somebody camp the door or stick some C4 there or whatever.

Was hoping there'd be some alternative way of balancing this aspect, but I guess not? Just go up on the elevator and cross your fingers? :/

Yea, I don't think its by design. Think Seks is just assuming.

Just blow the skyscraper down..but now getting to c and a is much slower since you can't just paradrop lol.

Just had half of my gun disappear, lol. Tried to take a screenshot but don't know if you can or the binding for it.

Easy, knock down the whole building. There's a reason why you can destroy it. Its really dumb to complain about that.

And how the fuck are you supposed to take it down? It's not like BC2 where 6 C4 can take a building down.

And besides, it's not JUST the skyscraper. I'm talking the C/A (console) B/D (PC) flags.

They have an elevator near them and someone can camp on those roofs for the elevators. The skyscraper is the ONLY alternate routes for those rooftops and if that's taken down... you can't go up there unless you get a helicopter.

So, once again: Until DICE solves the alternate route problems for the ROOFS for all the elevators, including the skyscraper's, the map outright sucks.

There are ladders also for some of the areas. It's not the sole way there. Also, yeah, helicopters solve that issue. Got people camping on a roof? Just fly by drive by and it's done. I've taken out a fair few snipers who were camping out on the tallest buildings without any lifts or ladders and were proving to be a huge pain with this method.

The attack chopper is definitely very important on this map. I got like 40 kills being the turret gunner killing people off roofs.

If you coordinate an elevator run with a couple squads, you can get past a few campers. If there are more than just a few, then their team is missing valuable defenses on other points, so you can just leave them up there until someone in a helicopter clears them out. In theory, anyway.... It wasn't a problem in any of the few games I played so far.

Really? I usually kill them with the shitty engineer gun. If it's too hard then select recon. It's non issue.

I don't think I like the looks of these battlepacks. They've probably explained them elsewhere, but they're pretty much micro-transaction drivers, aren't they?

Yea, the elevator campers seem to just be doing their team a disservice by wasting manpower and allowing the other flags to be capped. If they're somehow that much of an annoyance, I just bring down the tower while they're up there (which, by the way, should count as destruction kills).

Help! I'm stuck at the loading screen forever, what to do?

I was playing fine yesterday, come today I haven't been able to get into server once, updated punkbuster and got in straight away.

Watched one guy camp at top of a skyscraper and plant C4 at the entrance the whole match. Not point C, one near B.

Just in the main building there are 5 elevators. If they are camping in all those elevators, capture the other bases.

It could be cool that you can go over the elevator, like in the movies.

I've seen some people put C4 in one elevator, activate it and go off quick, and then take the other one.

I'v seen the scout chopper camping the roof elevator, lol.

Capturing and defending that base when the building is down is really exciting.

Game getting smoother somehow don't know what they changed compared to the first day of beta or maybe it's due to some crappy servers? It's quite fluid now, still get hitches between camera changes, like knifing someone or going underwater.

I'm also getting the hang of this, last I played BF3 I was litteraly atrocious (having spent way too much time in PS2) but I'm definitely bringing the heat in BF4, repping GAF like I should!

After a bunch of disconnects earlier, I finally got some games in. Not loving it so far. The map especially stands out as poor (what was Dice thinking with those elevators).

Im pretty sure the current gen final game graphics will be improved over the beta (they were from the BF3 beta to the retail release) but still, the maps feel a little empty on conquest since you have 24 players stretched out over such a huge map.

In the plus column though Im glad that suppression is gone for the most part. It doesn't feel like Im missing shots for BS reasons anymore. Although the hit detection still feels a little wonky at times.

For example, I saw a guy up on the road when I was down near the water and all I could see was his head...so I shot and hit him but it didn't register as a headshot. O_o.

BTW playing on the PS3 version

that happened to me all the time in bf3. All I can see is a top of the head, I register several hits, but just does normal damage, no head shot...Haven't seen it in bf4 yet though. But I have seen that I fire at someone and clearly miss, yet it registers as a hit and kill. Happened about 2-3 times within 2 hour period.

Yeah, the map isn't particularly thrilling, but I wouldn't call it poor.

THe game runs decent for a beta, but it definitely needs performance tweaks ASAP.

C balances itself in that if you're putting too many resources into defending it, then you probably won't do well.

It's meant solely as a means of getting to other areas of the map quickly via basejumping. The teams that just camp the elevators and snipe off the roof are basically just wasting time.

The other bases are more important due to the strong vehicles that spawn there.

Nah, there are plenty of skyscrapers to claim your own. If the other team gains C and rooftop dominance, then your team needs to adjust accordingly and fight guerrilla style.

Or you need to coordinate with your squad and use a helicopter. They're fucking snipers, it's not hard to kill them on a flat rooftop with two dudes.

This is what I've experienced, too. The campers are annoying, but only if you play their game. Not that I'm excusing the level design.

Nope. Oman BF2/BF3 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> This map.

Until DICE solves the camping elevators this map sucks. "Get on a roof and camp the elevator and watch for people coming from the skyscaper if we don't own the flag.
.

Once you unlock remote mortars those building campers are gonna get owned.

I'd imagine the elevator camping is going to be a lot easier to predict with commander mode enabled.

Also you can send C4 up in the elevator as well.

I don't think the elevator thing is bad design, rooftop dominance is a unique mechanic for the map. One that can be countered through other means.

This map shits a big steaming turd all over Battlefield 3's urban maps if just for greater emphasis on vertical play. It balances infantry and vehicles in an urban environment very well, with plenty of tactical advantage for smart use of both.

Why, when you're prone, does my guy seem to want to constantly auto-crawl instead of staying put? I'll be prone on the edge of a building or something and it seems like he always wants to crawl off it automatically. I'm fighting his movement constantly.

Also super annoying when you knife a dude with 7 health while at max and he instantly counters.

I'm so used to going for melee once I'm out of ammo for my primary with close range weapons that I just do that instead of switching to my side arm. And if you do it from the front, you get countered EVERY TIME.

It's kinda dumb.

For me I've only experienced it once.. I was on a small rooftop near D, and a guy saw me from the back and decided instead of shooting me to go for the knife kill.

I turned around at the last second and got the counter. It's just fun to think about that guy wanting that knife kill so bad that he gave up the easy kill and lost out for it.

Wow didn't take long for the whiners to come out. I don't know maybe take the chopper up there?, snipe them from below, get on another rooftop and kill them from there. There are any number of things you can do or you can cry about it.

It also takes like 8 rockets to bring that whole C building down. If the enemy team is holed up there it is pretty much free kills to whoever brings the building down.

I kinda wish that building lasted a bit longer, it's really fun when you take it over and you can jump off to points B and D.

The worst thing about the skyscraper coming down is the mesh that's left behind after it comes down.

Looks terrible and plays terribly -- I'm so tired of my guy getting stuck on the geometry there.

I don't know. A lot of the vertical play seems to happen when one person is at ground level and the other is all the way on the top of a skyscraper making for boring firefights. I also feel like Back to Karkand (Not really BF3 but still) balances infantry and vehicle play a lot better. The streets on Siege of Shanghai just feel open and empty which barely any interesting elements for infantry.

Haha true that. I guess it will require some tweaking, cause there's nothing more annoying than fighting the game's controls to progress through the rubble and getting killed cause you're stuck.

I'm also thinking the building should last longer. The map's really well done though, liking it more than those in BF3.

This has happened to me so many times already. Pretty frustrating.

bullets should do more damage when the hit someone diagonally above u... sorta like in real life? bullet enters the body and rises to chest/head area... i dunno - that will sort out them roof campers!!!

hows everyone finding the shotgun?

how about the dmr?

Last night I was following a friend of mine and an enemy ran up behind him for the knife and had started the animation for the kill. I came up behind him and pulled him off my friend and got a knife kill while my friend survived. Thought that was a cool addition.

Also saw some people talk about autobalancing being an issue. I didn't play a ton, but anytime I connected to a server my friends were on the game put me in their squad automatically. The one time their squad was full we were coordinating making a new squad, but one of the players left their current squad and it placed me in the open spot without any of us prompting it. Much better than BF3's system from what I have witnessed.

Both D has another taller building with an elevator (closer to e) where you can drop on D. B is not as much as an issue because you can easily enter the underground from three separate entrances. Also the fact that there are two helicopters per team with no real mobile AA it makes it quite easy to clear a point that's being elevator camped.

I see that in PC, the map has 5 bases, but in E3 it has 7 bases and AC130. Is there gonna be different modes of conquest? If that's the case, it could be cool.

And in PC domination is for 32 players instead of 20 :-o

Still can't get past the loading screen, did every single fix I've seen posted on their forum. I really think I might just get this on PS4 at launch since my PC will only be able to handle med at the most anyways.

Why, when you're prone, does my guy seem to want to constantly auto-crawl instead of staying put? I'll be prone on the edge of a building or something and it seems like he always wants to crawl off it automatically. I'm fighting his movement constantly.

Could be bugs. I've noticed that they made it so your guy can't shove his legs through a wall when prone anymore. If there's an object obstructing where your legs are positioned, your soldier will automatically crawl forward.

So did they fix the part that they never even fixed in the final version of BF3 (only played it on 360) but did they fix where you get separated from your squad? I can't believe in a team shooter like this where it's all about teamwork, even still in the finished version of BF3 after all their patches you still get split up from friends and end up on different teams.

Is this fixed? One of the most asinine glitches I've ever been a part of. I hope that's fixed.

that's a feature, not a bug. unless the teams were already lopsided, you will be split to make the player count on teams balanced.

I read somewhere that the PS4 BF4 is the equivalent of PC on Medium, which still looks awesome, don't get me wrong.

I was playing earlier today with my GTX650Ti without much hastles, oh High settings, V-Sync on, using a controller to help me psychologically cope with the fact I was not playing at locked 60 fps, was great!

Hmm... if that's true, it could be that being at an "angle" since I'm peering over a raised ledge could have my legs going through the "roof" or something... ugh. So annoying.

Actually this is not a feature of BF3, it's a script that server admins choose to use. There are some different ones and they certainly can be mis-configured to be overly aggressive.

I can't help to think how much more fun this game would be without instant vehicle spawns and Hardcore turned on. Looking forward to the full release.....

Anyone else just running into shit? Invisible walls when it's like a knee high piece of debris, or like an exit of a building? Not being able to just bolt over/through them? I kind of had a few of those experiences in my short time with the beta so far.

Ya'll are missing the point.

"DERP TAKE AN ELEVATOR/CHOPPER UP THERE LOLOLOLOL"

Only the Chinese side has the chopper on the ground IIRC. US forces chopper starts on a roof that has NO infantry/ground-spawn options to get up there. Bailing from the chopper is stupid. Take them out? Sure. But that doesn't solve the issue.

The problem is as a ground force you have no option to get up to the roofs SAFELY without being camped. None. It's only one option: The elevator. For the person that mentioned the ladders: Show me those ladders, as I have yet to see ladders outside of the canal/ocean/water routes.

As for Scogoth: I'm going to have to replay the map tonight and check that area because in the rush of going between flags on the ground I haven't seen an elevator or alternate route in that area.
