Battlefield 4 Beta Thread: Prepare 4 Battle (Update to beta drivers)

There's a reddit AMA w/ a bloke from dice that says like one or two weeks old at most.

No way. No, can't be. Wait, really? We talking about the BF4 beta? Nah, no way. Seriously? Fo' real realz?

I hope that's not right. Even if optimization is the last thing to be done, it's a little rough in all areas to only be two weeks old while being so close to launch.

Hell, aside from performance, I hope these past few weeks have been all about improving the netcode then because I had some things happen I haven't seen in BF3 or any big game in ages for that matter considering both of us had good pings and the server wasn't lagging in other ways. I really hope that was just the server rubber-banding bullshit but a few others mentioned it as well.

As you can see by my avatar, I'm a huge BF fan and was a modder back in 1942 all the way through BF2 until they killed the mod community (Demize was a fellow modder and now look where he's at) and it would kill me to have that many problems at launch with a BF game. I've been more vocal about the changes with this one than ever before considering they refined a lot, but also went backwards a lot too by drastically reducing recoil, giving people two equipment slots making engineers even more deadly against vehicles that have already been neutered (especially in the air), and a few other things. I just want this game to be a step up from BF3 in every way and I hope they don't rush it in top of some of the design decisions I disagree with.

Wow a whole 3 days closed beta as "thanks" for buying BF3 Premium.

I won't be making the same mistake with BF4 Premium.

Premium is just "all DLC in one easy to purchase package". Especially if you dont care about camos and shit. Hopefully they add more incentives this time around.

Use this shit gun till you get 1000000 kills to get some camouflage for it! gets old real fast

Unless you really want premium RIGHT NOW ON RELEASE for some reason
Well because you're going to have to now wait and find Premium on sale somewhere to match the price of the other deal.

Tempted to cancel my pre-order now. I should be able to run the game smooth on a crossfire rig, I can run BF3 at 100-150fps maxed out.
It cant be this bad on release. No way.

I can't find any mention of a delay for the PC version on the site or from BF twitter accounts, shouldn't it be as simple as allowing access for non-premium/pre-order Origin users?

He only said that the mechanics and gameplay were from the latest build, not the code itself. So we will most likely see a vast difference in performance when the game releases, just like with BF3.

Thank God. I didn't get to check the AMA and was hoping that wasn't the case because if the build itself was only a few weeks old, that'd be quite concerning. Hell, the BF3 alpha was smoother for me than BF4 at any setting so far so that'd be really scary if the build wasn't old and we're this close to release. I never expected to max it out, especially in the beta, but the problem persists no matter what setting it's at.

But then again, apparently no one here knows what a beta is and we need someone to post the "ITT" cliche to learn about it instead of actually discussing the topic at hand.

Anyone else BETA not working on PC, it just keeps taking me to a pre order page when trying to launch the beta

Edit

just saw this

We are preparing for the Open Battlefield 4 Beta. Until the Beta is live, you will not be able to access the Battlefield 4 section of Battlelog

Did you play the BF3 alpha / beta?

I did. So if your argument was "there was a major improvement between beta and release" then that's not going to work, because that clearly did not happen. And this is not a meaningful beta in the first place. It's more like a demo and a stress test wrapped into one. It was a selling point for Warfighter and the digital deluxe edition, if we're being honest. A real beta involves two way communication over a worthwhile time period where actual changes can be expected, not two weeks before the game releases. Most here understand what a beta is, and that this clearly is one in name only.

Battlefield 4 is coming out before Ghosts come hell or high water. It was the same for 3, despite some showstopping bugs. I fully expect the PC version to be a technical hot mess until they get things sorted out with DirectX and the drivers.

What are all these "Battle packs"

Micro Transactions?

as I noticed Premium comes with 12 of them

You unlock them when you level up and they contain random weapon attachments, camouflages and XP boosters. They are divided into bronze, silver and gold depending on what they contain.

And yes, they can also be bought via microtransactions. If you are in a rush.

So, outside of the preferred setup for a given weapon (generally a laser, a country specific reflex, and a foregrip) everything else will be hidden in Battlepacks. That includes camos, other unlocks, XP boosts etc... There are three tiers of Battlepacks, and each has a guaranteed minimum of progressively better stuff inside. Think Mass Effect 3 multiplayer. You are awarded certain battlepacks at a given rank. In this beta, you get three bronze and one gold at level 10, which is the cap.

Given the sheer number of things you'll possibly need from Battlepacks, you will be more inclined to purchase either premium or packs through EA. Some items that are cosmetic (they have a vanilla equivalent that does the same thing) are advanced/gold Battlepack only.

Ranks are now 1-100. So the grind from 1-145 has been spread out over 45 less ranks, to make the lower ranks more meaningful.

Don't worry I'm getting shitty performance on a Titan at low settings, it seems like the game isn't using the CPU properly (unless you're on Win8?)
So obviously they're gonna fix it for release or it would be a disaster for DICE

seems like they reduced the time you have to revive a teammate by a significant amount.
you can pretty much forget about checking your surroundings for enemies before going for the revive, rambo-revive seems to be the only way to go. and you should also think twice if you want to charge that defib. it´s pretty frustrating when 4 out of 5 revives don´t work becuase you´re that split second late.

I think it's more that teammates do not expect revives, as defibs are optional and not equipped by default. If you are playing with a squad that you can talk to, you can tell them to wait for a revive if they go down near you. Otherwise everyone is redeploying as fast as they can, which is basically instant on domination.

Yea, you basically have to be right on top of the person when they died to be able to do it in time but you can forget it if you take a second to kill the enemy that shot your teammate first because the revive option will already be gone...lol.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought it was short and I hope it's something they're looking into or else I'll just carry the first aid kit and a launcher/shotgun instead.

Has there been any benchmarking article done for the Beta? I'm really not happy with the performance I'm getting with my 2500k @4.2GHz and 7970.

FPS increase is minimal going from Low to Ultra preset.

I am playing on this:

i7 3770k no oc
7970 ghz 3GB
16GB

and only setting that affect my performance are mesh and defered AA (so I have them on ULTRA and am switching between MSAA 4x and RPro forced SMAA)
I have everything on ULTRA at FOV 90-100 1080@60 + DVSync via RadeonPro + enhance app AA

Getting 60fps in low perf hit areas and going down to 40fps when shit hits the fan.
