Battlefield 4 Beta Thread: Prepare 4 Battle (Update to beta drivers)

The beta is done now right? I was just playing and the game collapsed and just closed completely. Now the vast majority of games showing as having no players in them. Even in my history, all empty.

Goddamn, fucking EA got Facebook by the balls, advertising up the ass with celebs posting that they are playing BF4 on the suggest posts. So annoying.

Shit like this is intense

Can't wait for release. This game is going to consume me for quite some time.

Well, really enjoyed that Beta and can't wait for the retail release. Broke my personal goal of 2.5K/D ( 2.57 ) so I'm satisfied :P

I screwed around a lot. Tried to play recon and spot vehicles for engineers. Tried out support here and there. That brought my KD down a ton. But whenever I play engi\assault, 2.5 KD and up is pretty easy. I ended up with 2.06 KD and a measly 287 for my SPM. I'm not sure what "skill" is but I wound up with 302.

Invested 23 hours into the beta and messed around with every weapon. Ended up with a K/D of 1.48, score per minute of 528, and "skill" of 638 with almost 2200 kills. My thoughts on the guns are the following:

AK12 & AK 5C: These are some awesome guns that are perhaps a bit too easy to control for how accurate they can be. I feel they need some more recoil because as it stands you can full auto mid to even mid-far targets and reliably take them out.

SCAR-H & ACW-R: I think these are where they need to be. SCAR has massive damage for a AR but enough recoil to balance it. ACW-R has less recoil than the 5C but its fire rate makes that recoil stack up much faster than other carbine.

QBS-09 & 870 MCS: The QBS wasn't really my cup of tea. A semi-auto with that fire rate, individual shell loading, and only six (!) rounds? That is way too little for a gun that will often force you to expend 3-4 shells to kill a single person unless you are putting the gun right in their back. It will be outshined by the other shotguns with larger ammo counts and/or magazine loading. 870 MCS on the other hand is right where it should be for a pump action, rewarding accuracy with a 1-2 hit kill at close range and allowing you to reach out to a okay distance with buckshot and more so with slugs.

LMGs: I.. didn't really like them. Their vertical recoil isn't bad but they have fairly annoying horizontal recoil, bouncing left and right reducing accuracy over sustained fire and having just equal damage to carbines and non-SCAR assault rifles. With suppression now only bluring enemy vision and not actually affecting accuracy there is really no reason to use a LMG over a carbine or DMR. The former is great at close to medium range and can engage long range targets with some skill and the latter can engage medium to long range targets easily and close range enemies with some skill. I feel they need a increase in accuracy, probably by reducing horizontal recoil, and/or a damage buff to make them something scary to be hit by.

Sniper rifles: I'm not a fan of them in games and that did not change here. I probably will not make much use of them.

PDWs: I didn't use them much. The MX9 was decent with a insanely fast rate of fire but nothing else spectacular about it while the PP-2000 sacrificed that fire rate for an improvement in nearly every other stat.

And finally DMRs: I was greatly disappointed that the only sights available in the beta for these weapons was iron sights, ACOG, and canted iron sights. The iron sights on the RFB are horrible, the MK11's are just manageable, and the ACOG is a shitty scope who's targeting reticule seems to be a f***ing liar. I liked the MK11 but absolutely hated the RFB. That thing kicked like a mule, even with a angled foregrip making follow up shots tremendously difficult and it just didn't seem that accurate to begin with.

WHY.jpg

Please tell me DICE isn't remaking that over doing Oman, Sharqi, Caspian, and Firestorm from BF3. Harvest Day, Deconstruction from BC1, and Arica, Panama, Port Valadez from BC2...

I thought it was common knowledge by now that Operation Metro is going to be in BF4?

I like your choice of maps from BC2, those are god tier with Arica especially as that was my absolute favourites to play in BC2. White Pass was another favourite of mine... So many good maps in BC2.

I'm about ready for it to end, so many really bad players. Your team is getting demolished by the enemy choppers and nobody can be bothered to laze? Or I switch to recon to do the lazing and then none of the engineers ever look up.

One of the most frustrating aspects of the game tbh. Was on top of C as engi with 4 snipers near me and not one of them was bothering to laze the attack chopper that kept raking the penthouse...

Strictly gaming with friends at retail because they at least can be guaranteed to co-operate.

Also gotta love it when your team is made up of eleventy hundred 2 man squads and then they wonder why they are getting pounded by the opposition who have a few 5 man teams. Very few people seem to grasp the effects of spawn attrition.

Well, my PC still couldn't play the beta. Did the update and now I would just get a loading screen without it even going full screen

Waiting until next month to actually experience BF4 fucking sucks

I really like how agile and fast they are, but for some reason I can't aim with them quite as good as could in BF3. Guess I gotta get used to it.

It's the combination of sensitive controls, narrow spread of the miniguns, and having to shoot under the reticle (unless you're level).

Didn't really enjoy the beta (only played a couple hours.) And for some reason, the aliasing seems even worse than BF3. Graphics seem like a mild improvement as well, with much worse performance.

Even running it at 3200x1800 downsampled it had tons of aliasing. Really disappointed, wish they'd adopt some form of SMAA.

Scout chopper gameplay :P

Death at the end counted even after the match was over :( Still hate how vehicles control. So touchy, though that may just be on consoles.
They seem to be much faster than the flying coffins in BF3 but as this map does not have any jets I reserve judgement on their chances of survival. So far the air game seems pretty simple though. Wish I had some more control in helicopters, BF is not a sim but a game like Planetside 2 is as arcade as one can get and you have incredible control over anything that flies. Makes flying and air to air fights much more fun.

Caspian and Firestorm were my two most played maps in BF3, so seeing them return is good. Keen to see if they've spruced up the "levolution" of the old maps. Like, the antenna tower in Caspian, should now be dropped by manually destroying the concrete tethers.

gonna try and get in one more game before it's over. This was a great beta and definitely proved that it's not just Battlefield 3.5 in my opinion.

Oh hell yes. I hope it falls across A/C/D though and forces those points to be mostly infantry only. That would be cool

Just finished playing around 50 minutes match of obliteration.I played with randoms but there was a great team work on both sides and it was one of the best multiplayer matches that I ever played. It was so packed with awesome moments and close calls.
Hitting lone bomb runner who is swimming across the river with rpg while parachuting was really satysfying and fun.
I wasn't alone with my enthusiasm because almost everyone after the match went "wow that was epic" on the text chat :D

it's over! :[

edit: kind of lame how they are advertising Premium membership and not the actual game on Battlelog. People might get tricked into buying Premium when they wanted the actual game.

Had a lot of fun with this once it all got patched up. My system isnt the best though so I would probably get it for the PS4. Still, this beta left me with a much better opinion of the game than the BF3 beta did.

Why you click "Buy Now" it adds the base game to your cart as well. So you do buy both. I tried it a month or so ago

Frigging loved the beta.

It will be hard to resist buying this for my PC at launch.

Sticking with the PS4 version to play with all my friends.

Already have it prepurchased, and I will be buying Premium day one.

So many hours of joy await.

Some shots I took during the beta.

Look on the bright side, once the game is released you'll be more excited. I absolutely can't wait to try the other maps; I want to see that other city map, forgot the name.

Yeah, as much as I loved the beta map it is going to be awesome to explore the new ones. I hope they all have the same sense of scale. So many different elements.

Played a quick game last night but my heart just wasn't fully into it. :) I'll wait until the end of the month. Maybe go back into BF3. I put 13 hours into the beta which is a lot for me.

I'm a little dissapointed that Second Assault doesn't include any of Aftermath maps. It would be cool they could bring real eartquakes with Levolution.

And now, how do I uninstall the Beta from my PC?

Right click on it in Origin and click "uninstall."

After that I'd hide it.

I played a few hours of Obliteration on PS3 to close out the Beta. Then out of the blue a friend invited me to play BFBC2 with him (also on PS3). Unfortunately there was no comparison, BFBC2 was such a superior experience it wasn't even funny. I'm starting to wonder now if BFBC2 was just a fluke, a 'perfect storm' of various ideas, that DICE will never be able to match again. BF3 and it seems BF4 have certainly fallen a long way short on current gen consoles, that's for sure.

If only they had fixed the heli whoring and perhaps made the player control itself a bit more fluid, I'd still be playing it today and wouldn't even consider getting BF4.
The more I play of 4, the less I'm liking it and the more faults I see that were in BF3 as well that made it pretty awful at times.
But yeah, what do you do when friends don't want to play anything else, even though they bitch at all the same things I bitch about. :-/

This is the first Battlefield game in history where I've properly enjoyed myself and want more. Man the 31st can't come soon enough!

I got terribly burned on BF3, but I really enjoyed this Beta....

I just really don't want to spend a bazillion buckazoids on it and find that I don't enjoy it again.

So don't...? Just buy the base game? No one is putting a gun to your head to buy the game +premium?

Really? Didn't dig any of the others?

I wasn't a big fan of BF3. You'd think I wouldn't like BF4 either, since the gameplay is pretty similar. But I've been hooked on every Battlefield game prior to that. 1942, BF2, and BC2 properly consumed my life.

It all roots into the mode, the polish of the gameplay I think.

I was one big pendulum with BF3, every time I found some redeeming feature, a bad one would make my vein pop in rage.

However with something like obliterate and especially defuse, one of my biggest problems has already been crossed off the list. Then it's down to all the little fixes, the feel of the weapons has been made less mushy in some areas and overall I just enjoyed BF4 so much more.

Ah shit beta over?

Great...

Say it ain't so? I got really into it yesterday. Feels like a good Battlefield!

That AK-12 however is a disgrace to brave fighting men and women everywhere.

Do you need to tag anymore. I couldn't figure out how to tag. Does it happen automatically now?

Obliteration is a blast, but damn if it isn't a campers paradise. There are scores of peeps that all they do is camp the bomb or the tower (jump off point) to up their kill count, making no effort to get it or assist in moving it to the enemy objective.

The scoring system is seriously borked in Obliteration. If you play the bomb, you will most likely be in a negative kill-death ratio, set the bomb multiple times or assist, and still end up below the campers in the final score. You think this would have been fixed by now...

It will be better when we have smoke.

Man im really torn at this point. The 360 one ran like real caca so i cant get that while i wait for the next gen one. But i also dont wanna spend full price on a pc and next gen version. God damnit.
