Battlefield 4: Second Assault due February

My favorite thing about map packs is discovering new methods for developers to highlight the bugs in the game. Something as simple as a small bug can have a whole level built around it in a way that highlights just that one bug for every player. It's a fascinating process seeing how the same sets of bugs can be enjoyed in entirely new ways through some clever dev-side efforts in these expansions. God willing, we may even get a peek at a handful of *new* bugs, which is really a great value when you think about it.

No it's not. People need to stop spouting this BS already.

I dunno, not being able to finish the single player due to saves getting corrupted +2 months after it's been released is pretty broken by almost all standards. The multiplayer seems to have taken a hit with the framerate on since the last patch, too. Ps4 (all?) version(s) could've used another 3-6 months in the oven, it seems.

It really makes all the shit Ghosts got before launch seem so misdirected given that that game is incredibly competent compared to BF4.

Yes it fucking is. I'm sick of people saying nah its fine or calling BS.

The netcode is broken piece of shit
Health indicators are a lie and broken
1 hit death has made a return
Game still has disconnected from EA online bug
Maps like paracel storm lag so terribly late game I might as well be playing in another country.
Its proven that the longer the game goes the more hit reg gets worse and delayed.

FINALLY! this DLC has been finished for months and the only reason its been delayed is so they would take less of a PR hit like half ignorant people in this thread are spouting "i guess the game is fixed then right"

the game works fine for me and has for a long while now but people love to troll it, half the people talking crap probably don't even own the game and just want to bash EA

ill admit BF4 was launched to soon and some of the early issues would never of happen but the game is fine now and for the people that ordered premium and have had to wait longer for second assault witch is already done is a bigger crime imo

I haven't played BF4 in like a month. I decided to try the campaign again (never finished that level with the typhoon) and it crashed on me twice in the middle of playing. I'm guessing they never bothered fixing Single Player?

I play BF4 multiple times a week on my PS4 and it feels great. The vast majority of the bugs are minor things that don't even phase me.

Anyways, looking forward to Second Assault!

Me and my friends did a 20 hour LAN party Battlefield marathon on 360 last weekend. Every time we played Flood Zone approximately 3 out of the 6 of us would freeze up and have to reboot.

I knew my gut was right all along.
"Levolution" always sounded too stupid for it to ever be any good!!
Battlefield at its core is about dynamic gameplay, at least in conquest.
They go and add these big ass, scripted events, player controlled, that happen exactly the same way each time...

Yea.. GOOO LEVOLUTION!!

Always find more and more proof that going multiplatform was the biggest mistake they ever made in regards to their game: Battlefield.
Shit is PC at its core....

Bad Company was their golden chance at something special for the console plebs, something different than the mediocre copies of their pc games for ps2/xbox1.
And they ruined it...

Imagine the hype of having the mainline BF series continue in its trend of 4-5 years of exclusive development, delivering a huge bang for us PC enthusiast. New Battlefield title on PC meant I was building a new rig, and that's a win-win for the community.

Now imagine that same concept but on consoles, with the Bad Company series. You would obviously shorten up dev time some, to match the console development cycles. Though being strictly a console exclusive on the most current consoles at the time (PS360's) would give em some extra time rather then going PC also.
A good exclusive Battlefield title on consoles, something fresh and unique that truly leverages the strengths of a closed dev environment would be something that even the biggest Battlefield PC players couldn't ignore. Which in turn could potentially sell more consoles, another win-win!!

The current scenario isn't conducive for that kind of setup.
They ain't pushing no hardware with their buggy mess of a game that BF4 is. It's barely been a couple years since BF3 came out, so there's no way they are pushing HW sales significantly on the PC side of things.

Due to them supporting every platform out under the sun they've also shot themselves in the foot in terms of being a game that pushes console HW sales.

Heh

Yes it is, stop spouting your BS. Posted a massive list of bugs a few pages back that I still encounter every match.

I think the point of departure here is between "broken piece of unplayable shit" and words like "stable" and "playable." The game is plenty stable and perfectly playable. Every game I know of has a laundry list of shit people want fixed. Doesn't excuse any of it, but literally every game I'm playing has some kind of "inexplicable" problem or three. It's just how shit is. BF4 has its share but it's fantastic some 90% of the time, imo.

Yep.

I uninstalled the game the other week once I noticed how bad kill-trading had become. I thought they had fixed it, but two steps forward, two steps back with DICE.

I know the game doesn't crash any more, that's not what I mean by bugs.

Gotcha. There's some small bugs like the 0 health, but the issue that needs fixed ASAP, for me, is the rubberband lag hitting Lancang and Hainan. If Lancang comes up in rotation, I always quit out because the lag hits every time. Hainan usually doesn't lag until the building at Charlie takes the damage to it.

lol.. most of that "massive" list of "bugs" you mentioned either aren't actually bugs or very very rarely happen.

I mean...

"helicopters flipping over when hit by a rocket,
killed in action when bailing out the chopper happens way too much,
transport heli being terribly useless without a bail out comms order
Dog tags suck ass compared to BF3, they don't track anything any more and you can't see them properly in game anyway so they are pointless"

lol

Here's the actual bugs on that list that still happens more frequently then it should:

"shooting at invisible parts of terrain (this is really getting on my nerves lately when fighting in destroyed buildings)"
"hit sounds not playing when being shot at"

Nº2 hasn't happened once since one of the previous patches.
Nº1, Considering the amount of destruction the game has, it's understandable, but hopefully fixable.

Yeh I'm getting random rubber banding today as well but don't know if that's just my internet.

Top offenders for me are "Cannot join server" on battlelog even if the game has empty slots, crosshair vanishing randomly while playing opening the menu is the only way to make it re-appear, terrible hit detection, the one hit kill bug and 4th mouse button mapping not working at all.

I know it'll never happen, but I just wish DICE could release a semi functioning game that doesn't take a year to fix and balance. Some things in BF3 never got fixed so I guess we'll always have to just deal with it.

Yeh it went from actual bugs to my opinion on things that are stupid I guess. But these are all big offenders to me that just constantly irritate me while playing. I also seem to be the only person reporting the vanishing crosshair, I'm not even sure what triggers it.

Maybe your joining hardcore servers?

Jking, there was actually a bug like that that happened after a reload, it's been fixed.

Lower your FOV to something reasonable and check if you're still having all the random problems.

Worth a shot.

The game has bugs, but it is very playable. I play every night on my PS4 for 3-4 hours without issue.

Lagcam Dam has serious rubber banding, the zero HP glitch is just a post-mortem indicator that has no gameplay impact, I haven't been one-hit killed in over a month, or had any crashes. Single player saves are still a problem I guess, I can't speak to that as I avoid that mode.

Looking forward to new maps that have been on the 'bone since release. No reason to delay that further when they are done except for waiting out that time window exclusivity that Microsoft paid for.

I hate the maps on the standalone game.

I hate the maps on BF3.

You're not doing this right, DICE.

I like only a few of the maps on Vanallia, all the maps from CR, and barely any of BF3. I think Op Firestorm is prob my least favoraite, such a boring map imo.

2nd Assault should have been BC2 maps.

If they fix the major bugs, I agree. Otherwise the main reason for them to delay would be that they publicly declared that they would do exactly that.

If your crosshair disappears just bring up the commo rose and close it. The crosshair will come back.

Happens to me occasionally.

Granted BF4 runs x100 better than it did at launch & granted crashes are a rare occurrence now but those saying the game is fixed, fine,no issues must be playing a different game!

Netcode is meh,
Kill trades are 10 a penny,
Hitboxes are random
0 health bug lol,
Rubberbanding on lancang & Hainan is still present

Then we have the minor issues such no in game emblem's, team or squad leader VoIP, squading up with friends is still a nightmare, no platoons for BF4.

Yes I enjoy the game but I turn a blind eye to many an issue that we shouldn't have too, BF4 isn't fixed by a long shot, playable? yes, enjoyable? Most of the time, fixed? Nada.

If Battlefield is not broken, then I would expect my save file to not delete itself. But alas...

I will buy these maps after they return weapon lethality to what it was in Bad Company 2, they allow me to form a squad with friends before searching for a server, they remove all rewards that have nothing to do with playing the objectives, and they fix the single player so it doesn't erase saves.

You know what map never gets enough love and I'd love to see return? Backstab from Modern Combat.
Backstab9pl.jpg

I reckon most people have never played this amazing map.

Hard to not be excited about new maps, and re-imagining maps from the previous game, to me, is great. There are three map packs left of the announced five, so there's plenty of opportunity for unique and (hopefully) BF2 maps. I would pay an amazing amount for a Kubra Dam remake. Might even offer sexual favors.

Having played the game for about 175 hours so far, I can agree that the bugs that do exist in the game (other than how bad the last patch made the rubberbanding on Lancang Dam) affect it minimally.

Fix your game first, DICE. It's still nigh impossible to fly a jet/helicopter in certain maps without the damn vehicle jittering forward and backwards. Same thing on foot too. Fix your game then release your DLC. This is just disgusting.

i dunno man... i haven't played it, but people say the SP is like 4 hours long. anyone that really wants to do it can just marathon it. i mean the save eating bug sucks but there are workarounds. fixing the meat & potatoes (MP) should be the priority.

I loved this map! <3

It's pretty much the only one I remember from that game apart from the one with the big overpass highway going through the middle.

Mantle where art thou

Perhaps they will release a big patch in preparation for these BF3 maps that will restore BF3 features like being able to squad up before joining a server...

Small price to pay since they basically automated auto squading with friends on server join.

Except automatic joining of squads, or even teams for that matter, rarely works, even after multiple map changes [XBOX1].

The client/server networking in this game is utter garbage. There are so many other games that do multiplayer networking so much better. When you add that to the higher than average input lag for this game it really hurts the playability.

That being said I still play it several times a week. The concept and main game play elements are some of the best ever in a FPS.

I bet half the posters in this thread would be calling for ea/dices head if they were around for Bf2 launch and the shit show that came with it. BF4 has glitches but is very playable and us true fans of the franchise will have fun playing the new (old) maps. The rest of you can continue to piss and moan, maybe it will do something.

Oh right were you not around at launch were the game crashed constantly for a lot of people? And how is it acceptable that DICE have a long record of releasing shoddy products? lol

I've been around for the launch of each bf game and expansions and slogged through all the bugs and glitches that entails. All games have had rough launches to say the least. BF4 has improved since launch but was just as bad as other games in the series. Just like the previous entries, give it a few months and a few patches and then you will have a game you can play for years and sink thousands of hours into.

Is it acceptable? Not really, but it's been this way for 10 years now, I'm used to it and expect it at this point.

I've still yet to experience a BF4 bug as bad as the BF2 bug that showed teammates as enemies. Pretty sure that lasted for months. Closest I've come is being thrown back to the PS dash a few times before the first patch.
