Battlefield 4 - upgrade from PS3-PS4 detailed

If I just wait for the digital version of the PS4 version do we know if that includes the China Rising DLC you get for preordering? I'd rather not have to get the PS3 version as I bought and played a little of the PC version on Ultra and the 60fps and clean graphics made it really hard for me to go back to the PS3 version when I played it a few days ago after not touching it for months.

I'm a beast using the controller but complete shit with M&KB plus the folks I play with are console plebs so I'd rather get the console version. But I really don't want to have to go back to 24 players and 30fps graphics that are most likely pushing beyond the capabilities of the console so if I'm guaranteed to get the DLC for buying the digital PS4 version on day 1 then I would rather do that.
 
What about us heathens that buy it entirely digital? How can I upgrade my PS3 PSN version to the PS4 one?

So many questions so little time.... common Dice/Sony just make it clear.

the net price is no different than buying it on PS4 in the first place. PS3 prices (at least in the UK) are around ÂŁ10 cheaper than PS4. So don't think of it as paying more, think of it as you're buying the PS4 version for the normal price, but you get to play the PS3 version for free while you're waiting.

Less of an incentive for BF4 maybe, but if they do this for FIFA then thats 2 months of multiplayer goodness before PS4 arrives in Europe.

This is a good deal if you want the digital version of Battlefield 4 because:

Buy PS3 Battlefield 4 for $60

Had this idea and wrote about it on gamefaqs. Immediately got called out on it like I was retarded.
 
I think I'll just play the Beta on PS3 and wait it out for the PS4 version. It'll be the ultimate upgrade.

I wish Rockstar would do this thing for GTAV.
 
Nice. Will be redeeming this through the web store so I have it if I don't get a ps4 before March 28. Hopefully Sony still lets you do that for ps4 games.

I'd like to know this too. Given the premium price you need to pay for digital to I would hope the preorder DLC would come with all digital versions.

No, what I meant was if I didn't do the trade and just got my PS4, logged in and purchased BF4 digitally on PSN would that give me access to the China Rising DLC which is a bonus for preordering and doesn't have anything to do with Premium which I'll also be getting. Most likely, I'll just suck it up and buy the PS3 version, have my eyes raped for a couple weeks while I play with my friends, then we all migrate to PS4 for the $10 and I sell the PS3 version or trade it in at Gamestop.

Yeah that's what I meant too. Poor choice of words heh..

Although BF3 premium was originally announced AFTER the first DLC for BF3 whereas this time we know about premium for BF4 so I guess the China Rising isn't really "free" if you end up buying BF4 premium. For BF3 it felt like you were getting the first map pack for free before we knew about BF3 premium.

Actually if there's a serious chance for a good net discount via trading in I kind of want to take advantage. Nevermind that if I got premium I'd still be paying more than for the average game and they'd be getting way more than just buying the game straight out.

I'd probably never play seriously on PS3 as PS4 anyway.

Really, you guys had to be expecting something like this. There was never ANY realistic chance they'd allow you to trade in the old game and effectively buy the next gen version outright for a heavy discount. I mean c'mon.

Instead they are able to milk an extra $10 out of people too impatient to wait for the "real version". Smart I guess, though I think they may have been able to get away with $15 or $20..
 
So if I buy the digital PS3 version, then I can upgrade to the PS4 digital version without needing to have the disc in the drive right since there won't be a disc with the digital PS3 version right? BF4 will be played constantly and I'd rather not have it hog the disc drive and cause my lazy ass to have to get up and change discs if I feel like playing something else.
 
Uhh, back to my original thought then: if they let a digital PSN copy be upgraded for $10 (or you just get a discount on the PS4 version to get it for $10 whichever) then I'll be interested in that, otherwise wait until PS4 release.

EDIT: Ok, yeah, I see it DOES apply to PSN. Yeah, if I get the game it'll be that way, I kinda want $10 just to compare PS3 and PS4 anyway.

Seriously, this is a good move on their part. I applaud them for making upgrading as easy as possible with out screwing themselves. Stats carrying over as well is great as well!

It's probably more like a verfication disc on PS4 really, with a digital copy there but locked away without the disc. Like said it's probably more sensible just to buy on PSN.

There is: buying over PSN rather than the physical BF4 disc. I'll just quote the article:

The only question I have is whether trophies will carry over. Stupid as it sounds, I'd hate to buy it for PS3 and have it sit unfinished in my trophy list as I make progress on the PS4.
 
I bet both copies are on the bluray but you have to buy a key to get the executable for the ps4 version. It wouldn't be difficult to put both versions on one bluray after all.

Probably not, but at the same time it may be less complicated just to force a user to download the game instead. Especially if they're still polishing up development before launch, though I guess THAT would be remedied by a patch anyway.
 
Now that PSN is giving out $10 credit for every $50 you spend, I'm actually considering buying the PS3 digital version, because the PS4 upgrade would basically be free.

But does anybody know if the PS4 upgrade code will register as a 'preorder'? Because if it doesn't count as a PS4 preorder, you don't get China Rising, right?
 
Sorry to bump an old thread, but if I buy the digital ps3 version, can my son continue to play that on his ps3 while I upgrade to the ps4 version on my soon to be ps4? Can both versions be played with 1 purchases and upgrade.

Both can be played, you just need the disk in to do so.
 
I'm kinda pissed that I spent $10 on the "upgrade" now that I know that the PS3 disc has to be inserted every single time you want to play on PS4. I thought it was a one-time activation, which would allow me to keep the disc in my PS3 downstairs without having to swap. Nope.

No way to upgrade to the full PS4 copy now either, so basically I wasted $10. Serves me right for not going digital, I guess.
 
I'm moving all digital since we have 2 ps3s in the house and soon to be a ps4. Digital content being shared makes up for the usual higher cost of digital titles
