Battlefront season pass details revealed

16 maps? That's about as many as Halo 5 is getting in free post-launch updates.

My recommendation for anyone who is interested in playing this at some point is to wait for the Premium edition that comes with the base game and Premium for only $60 (or less if it goes on sale eventually). That's how I got Battlefield 4 and all of its DLC for the price of the base game, and I would be lying if I said that wasn't worth the money - sooo many maps to play on, and you can join any server you want without getting any 'DLC required' pop-ups.

4 new heroes/villains from the original trilogy. Who else is left?

Heroes:
1. Chewbacca
2. ???

This could be Lando, Yoda or Obi Wan - another Jedi would balance out force users but they're super old and in hiding. But there isn't really anyone else worth playing.

Villains:
1. ???
2. ???

Uh... Grand Moff Tarkin? It's a silly choice but he's been in battlefront before. I can't think of anyone else thats not scraping the bottom of the barrel. Jabba? Where you just Hutt around eating others?

sadly many people aren't making 2x the amount of money today than they were in the past

I'm not arguing they are. It's a simple fact of business growth. The way our market works essentially forces publishers to use DLC to supplement the revenue they make since people will be off-put by a high base price game.

I may be in the minority here but I would prefer the game have microtransactions if it meant I didn't have to pay for new maps or game modes.

I still laughed. Tbh this is the usual knee jerk reaction to season passes. Especially in a game with no campaign that makes people worried that the base game is lacking content and stuff was cut to make more money via dlc. 🙃

$15x4 packs = $60. Season pass = $50. Savings = $10.

It doesn't change the fact that it's expensive for some people and not everyone can/wants to spend that kind of money.

Part of the reason why I am excited to see what Capcom does with SFV. If their fight money system works well enough maybe other developers will pick it up.

But seeing how much this probably sell, and how much battlefield already sells, Dice and EA don't need to change anything to make bank.

Kylo Ren, Captain Phasma, Finn, Rey.

is that 16 maps for every game mode or just some maps are for some like in the base game? or at least 16 for WA/supremacy and whatever number for the rest

because if it's just 16 maps overall and they are split between the gamemodes like the base game that's probably one of the worst premium deals from dice so far, BF4 one had 20 and BF:H had iirc 16 maps that were all playable on CQ large and most other modes

Greedo... And you get to shoot first.

Launches with 12, 2 more are free in December

It's 14 launch, 16 added

Supremacy, Walker Assault and Fighter Squadron (the big maps) only launch with 4 maps, with 1 more coming in the Jakku DLC.

So 5 big maps at "launch", probably another 8 added in the DLC (2 locations / big maps per pack) is my guess.

Why are we all surprised at this? DICE has done this with the last few Battlefield games, and they were of excellent value and I expect the same this time as well.

Ill never get a Battlefield (err, I mean Battlefront) season pass again. I never even played the final map pack from BF4.

Its like every other game. Most people play the stock maps. Each map pack means less and less players to play with.

I am actually really looking forward to the stuff from the season pass. The total will be eventually 30 maps, that sounds great.

A little dissapointed though with only 4 new heroes, I was expecting two heroes with each expansion pack. Or do they mean 4 more good guys and 4 more bad guys?

And how are they going to release it then? One Hero in each expansion pack, but he has no opponent then?

So how is it okay that things like star cards which are used in all the online game types are only available if you pay extra money?

That was my exact confusion as well. I hope they mean one from each side. Unless each pack is single "hero themed". But seems odd if so.

After re-reading it... I do think it means "4 more heroes and villians" as in 4 for each side. (hope)

This just sounds like the Battlefield 3 or 4 season pass, and that actually ended up being really good. A lot of the post-release season pass stuff in BF3 and BF4 were some of the best maps in the game. Also Carrier Assault in BF4 was fucking awesome, and that was locked behind the Naval Strike expansion.

I'll probably get Battlefront later on, but the part that gets me is the fact that the season pass is $69.99 CAD lol

I bought BF4 Premium

None of my friends bought it

Servers running the premium maps in my region are only active at peak times so I have to schedule for when I can get on them

So essentially I paid more money than the base game for these fantastic maps that I can never play. What a shame.

Sadly after re-reading it, the odds are much bigger that they mean 4 more heroes and villains (only 4). They also must now that using the number 4 gives confusion, while if you would give 8 more, they would just use the number 8.

(Hope I am wrong)

Most games compared to those days even without DLC have significantly more content than they did back then as well. People's perception of value has just gotten really out of whack.

Any time I read a quote like this I can't help but think of SOCOM 2 every time. Game had 22 maps, 5-6 different modes, DLC you got by buying a god damn magazine.

I'll give you the point about inflation, but I haven't played one shooter last gen or this one that's come even close to much content. And that's not including individual servers and huge clan support in-game.

That said Battlefront scares me more than any of the other shooters that are out or on their way. Base game seems shallow, Season Pass seems overloaded like every recent other Battlefield game.

But I'll still buy it. It's fucking Star Wars. Fuck me.

It is likely they will add 2 heroes/villains at a time, every second pack or so, instead of adding one per pack.
That way there won't be a team with more heroes or villains every time one is added. I'm betting the 4 will be TFA related.

Yeah, it can go both ways, and I hope you are wrong as well. :/?

And those failed miserably. It split the community so you could barely find any servers for the DLC.

Ignore the Season pass then. That's what I'm gonna do. I'm going to play the game modes that millions of people are playing and not spending a bunch of money on game modes with small communities. The way the game comes is the game for me.

Well I think it's just the new standard. Can you name me more as two multiplayer games that released with more as 12 maps in the last year? Because, I can't

A game with 22 maps at launch right now, just sounds impossible

I get the feeling that if we were getting 8 heroes/villains, rather than 4 total, they would absolutely capitalize on that on the web page/marketing. They didn't, so I am thinking it's 4 total.

Seriously this is my issue with these season passes. Imagine the game modes locked behind the season pass and how hard it'll be to find games there after their "newness" wears off. You are basically paying for content that will be obsolete in a month or two. This shit has ruined online multiplayer gaming.

That's because it is a hell of a lot more complicated and expensive to make a game with the visual and sound quality of Battlefront than it was to make this

Typical game industry fashion at this point. Holding stuff back to sell us later.

New content should be a surprise, not an expectation.

I don't think that's the case exactly, as they are releasing a new pair of maps in December for no extra charge.
