Battlestar Galactica Official Final Season Thread

Man, I'm a little bit excited today. I didn't think I'd be this excited, but I feel like I can't do anything else today but watch and prepare for BSG.

If anyone's interested, since I knew I would ultimately end up repeating any attempt at writing a "retrospective" piece when I write my finale review tonight, I decided to branch out a little, and my brother and I recorded a podcast about the show. We discuss our favourite episodes, character arcs, and then there's some more general discussion about the series, Season Four, etc.

Here's a link if anyone wants to give it a listen:

also that TVguide quote has me believe that this episdoe will be jam packed with all sorts of reveals.

hmm..

I didn't read too far into that... but I'm pumped it's more than an hour. I wasn't sure if it was or not. I can't wait!

Don't normally do this, but I really appreciate the work you do on your show reviews. They are great reads, and you do great work in them.

Man, this is it. The last episode. For a series that is only "4 seasons" (even though it's seperated into Hard, months long, breaks), it's felt like 6 or so seasons.

I'm really fortunate that I eventually gave the show a chance and watch it. I actually missed the Miniseries AND all of the 1st season. It was somewhere in the 2nd season, that I caught some episodes on rerun on Sci-Fi. Something grabbed ahold of my attention, and picked up the Season 1 DVD. I'm glad I was able to get into a show while it was still on the air (Unlike Farscape :( Didn't get into it until it was already off the air).

I enjoyed the series so much, I will give Caprica a chance, even if (at least to me) it doesn't sound as great a show plot as BSG.

Wow, it's almost all over....

Is the show coming on an hour earlier, or staying on an hour later?

First of all, thank you, I really appreciate the kind words.

And second, it's coming on an hour earlier, and ending the 11 minutes late.

Ends an hour [and 11 minutes :P] later!

I wait for the shows to be uploaded and then grab them via bittorrent. To top it all off, I download the HD version. I'll have to wait until tomorrow to watch. :(

Anyway, I'm excited. A bunch of other guys here at work are BSG fans too, and we're all anxious to see the finale.

I can't wait for this to hit BD. I'll be snapping it up right away.

I'm so conflicted over the last episode. Of course it has been an amazing series and while I want to see the end, I also know it'll be bittersweet.

But I also know that that GAF will be crying bitter tears I'm sure, as no matter what happens tonight, it won't end up pleasing many people around here.

This sucks. I'm driving to Florida today and tomorrow so I won't be able to see it. I was planning on watching it on Hulu once I got there, but I heard they embargo them for a week now. In a week I'll be headed home so I may as well watch in HD on my DVR.

Sucks.

Less than 12 hours to go. Closer to 9 hours... Mixture of :D and :(

Also, pretty sure there's a BSG season 4 marathon on right now on Sci Fi. When I work up and left for work, it was the one episode where Lee and Romo were trying to figure out who should replace the missing President (Rebel Baseship went bye bye with her on it). Romo had just put Lee's name on the board, leading up to the hallway scene where he holds a gun on Lee.

Sadly, I'm at work, and can't watch said Marathon.

I wanted to echo his sentiments, Memles. I've always enjoyed reading your BSG writeups. kudos

Ya the meltdown is going to be pretty bad here probably. I almost thing some of these guys would rather have a final episode where Ronald Moore sits at a desk reading a piece of paper going over the plot for the past 4 seasons for 2 hours.

The TV guide quote has gotten me very excited.

"The first hour-and-a-half of the finale is so intense, you'll find it difficult to breathe. So many questions will be answered including some you probably thought wouldn't be addressed due to time constraints."

Also Mo from The Watcher rated it 4/4 stars..although she seems to like every episode. even the crappy ones.

I'm leaving this thread now. With spoilers in the wild I know some retard will come in and say "I can't believe Baltar killed Adama" or some shit without spoiler tagging it.

She is distinctly in the 'Best TV Show Ever' camp, and is constantly appalled that it hasn't won any major Emmys.

...is the second part really a bad thing? I will agree that I occasionally want to see more bitter and critical material from Ryan, but it's not as if she's alone in being appalled at the lack of awards attention for the show.

No, it's not really a bad thing. I'm just trying to give some perspective as to how she feels about the show in general.

Yeah, same here. It's gained back some of the enthusiasm I've been lacking.

Had someone told me I would be this unenthused for the finale 2 years ago, I would have smacked them.

this can only lead to disappointment. Try to keep things realistc.

Boston Herald have it a B- says that Ron Moore has lost his mind, and could not come up with a solid way to end the series.

Take the good with the bad..

Fuckin Ron Moore, so sad.

Ok guys, since you now believe the finale is fucked, don't watch it. I mean, you've let someone else decide for you, so why bother finding out for yourself.

yeah, exactly, this is very logical.

Oh I am fully expecting a disappointing finally. I wan't impressed with the episodes leading up to it so why should I expect anything else?

It has NOTHING to do with that. The fact it is made clear questions are left unanswered pisses me off to NO end! This is it - these characters will never be together again, this story is over - I want a conclusion for the time I've invested in this show and canon.

Hey guys, I'm dropping in for tonight's ep. I watched all of first season, really dug it, but heard many bad things about the rest. Never got around to watching them, I've been reading summaries all afternoon, finally caught up. I'm a bit disappointed at the the peridocial aimlessness of the show, but overall it seems to have done an okay job. Looking forward tohe finale tonight!

All i really want from the finale is a clear sense of knowing everyones future. Like, they find a home, or know where to go, and the character relationships are finalized, like with Kara and Lee, Admiral and Roslyn.

Also, they HAVE to explain the whole opera house bullshit.

If they dont do these bare essentials there is no hope for this show to ever remain in history as something other than a total train wreck.

go watch seasons 2 and 3. I thought they were great. Then move on to season 4 if you want more.

There are really only 2 or 3 MAIN Questions to answer! You aren't going to get new micro answers to tiny things. Most of the series answers HAVE been answered. The biggest one was fully solved in the 1st episode of 4.5. What's left beyond The Opera House, Head Characthers and Maybe what Kara is, since we've been given some info on her already. Doable in 2 hours of time.

Now, if they totally forget to do one of those 3, then yeah, that going to suck hard.

But what else absolutely needs answering?

You are getting a conclusion, it just might not tie things up as neatly as you'd like. And if it did, there would be plenty of other people around here howling about that. Some things will obviously be left open for interpretation. I don't expect every tiny thing to be explained, but do expect that the larger things will be. I also don't expect a nice neat ending either.

I wonder what Sci Fi has up their sleeve other than a lame name change once this show leaves them.

This show really helped give the channel an identity.

if the show ended right now it would still be far from a train wreck.

No, it would be worse than a train wreck, the train would have disappeared off the tracks with no explanation. Bruce Willis wouldnt even have survived to stop bad guys.

I find that ironic coming from a guy with an X-Files icon.

Did the last 3 mediocre seasons of that show make the entire show a train wreck? I don't think so.
