Bear Grylls's Producer Got A Horrific Snake Bite (NSFW)

That wasn't as ghastly as I thought it would be. The lack of blood helped. I just viewed it like an interesting cross section.

You know... I'm super squeamish around even a little blood but for some reason I'm not phased by this. I think it just looks soo crazy and unimaginable that my mind is like "nope can't be real" it's something I've always found odd when seeing stuff like this.

anyone remember this?

Vid?

That's some acidic shit right there.

Seeing the bare bone so clean is pretty interesting. And it is interesting mostly because it isn't me. If it was me, I'd probably find it interesting and also want to tear my eyes out.

Dammit, nature! You scary!

Nice clean wound. Just needs a vaccuum dressing to encourage granulation tissue over the tendons, then a flap or a graft to cover the defect.

This is nothing compared to a bad case of Fournier's gangrene (maybe don't google that if you struggled with the foot photo...)

And this wasn't in Australia. We only have elapid snakes here, which produce neurotoxins. Vipers are the ones that make necrotising toxins. Our snakes just kill you by knocking out your respiratory muscles :/

Well, that's really fucked up ...

I find these kind of photos fascinating, seeing the workings of the human body on show like that.

That's my take on it as well. Horrible bite but amazing how you see the
bones and the inner workings of the body. Hopefully he'll recover pretty
good. I presume the skin missing is from the venom spreading? Or decayed skin
that fell off?

Not joking when I say this probably could have been much worse, say like
getting bit mid torso or genital area.

I'm usually repulsed by icky photos, but I didn't find this one to be too bad. Pus and infected tissue is usually a lot more disgusting too look at, IMO.

I wonder what his prognosis is.

My thought as well. Yeah, it's a guy with part of his foot missing, but at the same time, it looks to have been cleaned and at least medically taken care of, so it's like looking at something in a textbook. Now it there was something in the wound, was bloody, or it was infected, then it would have been hard to take.

Never set foot in Australia
This is too good not to quote.

Thats brutal.

I wonder if he can move his toes around and get to see everything working. That would be so cool.

There are some crazy human dissection videos on YouTube that are like the picture in the OP turned up to 11. I found this one channel, jono03 (NSFW, GORE WARNING), when I was studying arm anatomy and some of that stuff is gnarly. It's like the plates from Dr. Richer's Artistic Anatomy brought to life. Absolutely fascinating if you can get past the ick factor.

I thought Bear and his crew spent most nights in hotel/motel rooms. They would shoot crazy stuff during the day then relax and recover during the night. He does some insane things, but they play it up for tv. "Life or Death" areas were right next to a road and not very dangerous. That said, did they change the format that put his crew in dangerous situations? Curious what they were doing that put the crew next to venomous snakes.

Fucking damn.

It doesn't gross me out but it does give me chills to imagine the pain the guy is going through both physically and mentally.

Surprisingly not as bad as I thought it'd be.

The most gruesome snake bite story I've ever heard was on an Animal Planet show called Deadly Attraction or something. A woman got bit by her pet snake and bled out from every orifice all over her apartment. She even wrote a note hoping someone would find her before too long.

The officers' description of the household as "a bloodbath" still makes me uneasy.

Not really shocking. It's amazing that you just get to look inside the mechanical parts of the foot.
They should film his wound while he's moving his toes.

He should have been building up his immune system, by injecting venom daily like THIS guy.
This guy is insane, especially for having desires to step his knowledge of the toxins up but only doing so out of personal experimentation over 20+ years.
