So it's official, I've been a member here for a year. That's probably the most I've ever been active on a forum. Before joining GAF, I was like a ronin of forums, roaming from one to another for a month or two. Splinter Cell, The Last of Us, State of Decay, Far Cry 3, I was active in those forums and then haven't been back in a while. I barely frequent Gamefaqs anymore, only if I need a quick answer to a question. Technically I've been part of IGN forums since 2009, but I barely post there anyway.
I had been hesitant to join NeoGAF, since I had always heard bad things about the community. Now I know that those stupid comments I had seen quoted by devs or in articles only represent that idiotic vocal minority. The truth is that GAF really is the best community on the web, or least of any I've been a part of. The fact that there's a topic for anything, anything is fair game from the latest game or newest show to that breaking news story to some weirdly specific OT, really makes it far more appealing and encompassing than any other forum. What other forum can I go from debating the merits of The Walking Dead to discussing the latest indies to questioning the authenticity of Morgan Freeman's iPad-drawn face? And the community here has proven to be the coolest, most generous, and most friendly I've ever encountered, and that's not even considering GAF's fantastic treasure trove of talent amongst its game dev community, journalists, and others. And compared to many other forums I've posted in (cough Gamefaqs cough), the folks here can actually sustain grammatically-correct, reasonable, logical discussions (for the most part, anyway).
Technically I spent the first few months lurking around and perusing various threads. I made my 300 posts to member in The Last of Us review thread (actually I think I was the top poster in that thread) and since then, I've been most active in Toma's Indie Threads and the Steam Threads (which move way too fast to have a good discussion btw). It was a pleasure to experience my first Steam Summer Sale with the community here and remains a pleasure to follow my favorite shows week to week in their wonderful OTs. Honestly NeoGAF feels more like a community than other forums I've been a part of, rather than just a simple message board. It's nice to see familiar names pop in various threads so often, which is something I don't see often on Reddit, Gamefaqs, and other forums
So yeah, I'll be here for the long run. And to Toma, to Grief, to a bunch of others in the Steam and Indie Threads, thanks for all your help when I was just a PC gaming neophyte a few months ago and for maintaining those great communities in those respective threads.
Oh, and a shout-out to GAF's GIF master as well:

Posted here, rather than off-topic since I pretty much only mention gaming here and GAFfers active in gaming threads, but if a mod feels this belongs in off-topic, feel free to move it

Sums up NeoGAF better than any written description ever could
