I would say that it does get better and at some point the art just becomes insane with how good it is.

I started reading the Manga after Super Eyepatch Wolf's video on the 1997 anime and 2012 movies.
I was hesitant at first because I heard that Berserk had depictions of sexual violence, which really bother me. But I decided to read the manga since everyone was highly recommending it, and I don't regret it. The artwork is beautiful (in a macabre sort of way, if that makes any sense) and the characters are fully fleshed out.
And Guts, I love everything about him, his character and his design. How he can go from having these quiet moments of introspection to being in a goddamn deranged fury of visceral rage.
I just got done reading the Conviction Arc, and I ordered the 2012 movie blu-ray. I'm staying away from the recent anime because good god does it look ugly.

Oh yeah, it will get MUCH better.
Volume 1 might as well not even be called Berserk, it's like him testing out what he wanted Berserk to be, all the good shit that people love come afterwards.
Yeah the action left me perplexed at times as to what was going on but as long as I went back and saw them again I sort of got what was happening.
It does get better, I'm sure you'll enjoy it once you get a little further in to the Black Swordsman arc. It isn't until the next arc where it goes into jump off mode.
Currently on Volume 24, just got back to it and am at the Falcon of the Millenium arc, crazy ish is going on.
Questions about it though
So is Griffiths goal in life to become a ruler or something? Maybe I forgot but why would he go from being an all powerful member of the Godhand to being reborn as a human? Does he still have his powers that he obtained?

If anyone has a hard time following the action scenes, you could watch Mangastorian's Berserk chapter reviews on YouTube. He does a great job narrating it, and he really gets into it lol.
Griffith's dream is to become king. He can't do that if he's stuck in the Astral Realm like the other God Hand. I don't want to spoil anything, but you will soon see that he is still completely Femto and not human.

I've heard enough about Berserk to want to get into it, but the main thing putting it off for me is that the story from what I hear, still has no end in sight.

Can someone explain to me how
Guts lost his eye? I understand how he lost his arm during the Ecplise but at what point does he get his eye poked out? Next chapter he just wakes up in some cave and is one-eyed.
