Best 3 / Worst 3 Call of Duty Campaigns

I haven't played the Black Ops 3 campaign, but I would be interested in doing it merely for the camos that I can use in MP.

Worst:
1) Ghosts
2) Black Ops 3
3) Black Ops 2

Call of Duty 2 (this is about tied with Advanced Warfare for me at the number 3 spot).

Ghosts (only one I haven't finished).

Surprised so many people don't like MW3's campaign, I enjoyed it a lot at launch.

3. MW3? Kind of? I liked MW3 honestly, but I guess it would go on the "worst" since I never played CoD3.
 
Best
1. CoD4 — it's fun and well directed (these one-shots sequences!), maybe it's nostalgia but it's the legend
2. tie between Black Ops for how it was directed (how the best plot of the series is set into motion) and the Cold War setting ; and Advanced Warfare because it was so goddamn fun, the plot was simple and understandable, and it was so fun I want to play it again
3. MW2 — some really really cool moments, it was effective I guess, it was difficult to do better than CoD4 but some sequences are stuck in my head (the airport, Favellas, the last mission)

Worst
1. I'd say Black Ops 2 was not my cup of tea, the mix of cold war setting and future one wasn't well done, I don't remember much unless riding horses in the middle of Afghanistan and destroying a mall in Dubai

Didn't play Ghosts or BO3, CoD5 was great to me, MW3 was okay, and I don't really remember the others

It's sad to see so few Advanced Warfare in top 3 (lots of competition here) but at least it's not the last 3

Worst

Ghosts is serviceable and AW is quite good, but it's just relative to all the others CoDs, so I'd have to class AW as third 'worst'. Black Ops III though isn't just the worst CoD campaign, it's the worst single player campaign I have ever played.
 
I'm curious why CoD3's campaign is so widely disliked. I played it through a few times and thought it was at least decent (though the Sixaxis features were completely unnecessary). The multiplayer was clearly the star of that game, but the singleplayer didn't seem all that bad.

MW3 campaign had some amazing missions in it, but there was some amount of inconsistency in it's execution.
 
The three I liked most (unranked):

1. COD 2 -- Has more to do with it being my first real COD experience and my entire Xbox 360 hype was surrounded by this game.

2. Modern Warfare -- Great intro. Great setpieces and tension. A memorable sequence in Pripyat.

3. Black Ops -- Took the franchise to an experimental and interesting place.

The three I liked least (as far as I remember them):

1. Black Ops 3 -- I've yet to finish the campaign. At this juncture the plot is just incredibly boring for a 2015 game (oh no a CIA team went rogue or something never seen that before...!) and frankly unless it's Binary Domain shooting robots is boring. I do think it is above and beyond the worst of all COD campaigns.

2. Call of Duty 3 -- Just forgettable really.

3. Ghosts -- I couldn't even tell you what happened in Ghosts but evidently it was enough to just get me to quit halfway through and never look back.
 
I'm shocked at the love for World at War in this thread, all I remember is everyone shitting on that game left and right at release and for years.

Finest Hour

This also happens to be all I have played in the series, though I still think I will pick up Advanced Warfare at some point in a sale.
 
Funny to see near-universal praise for MW2. Back when it released it got shit on a LOT for being such a departure from MW1's grounded story. I always thought it was great though. One of the most fun shooters I've ever played.

Best 3 (1st is the best):
1. Call of Duty: United Offensive
2. Call of Duty 2
3. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Worst 3 (1st is absolute worst):
1. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
2. Call of Duty 3 (ps2)
3. Call of Duty: World at War

Ghosts and Blops 1 were torelable, while I barely remember anything from MW 2 and 3.

After which it immediately cuts to that TERRIBLE avenged sevenfold in engine music video that has Menendez getting shit on by all of the band members. Such silly, tastelessness.)

gah, black ops 2 to was SOOOO self serious but it ends up being tonally all over the place. Also that section where you are shooting a rocket launcher from horse back (the shittest horse) is rediculous.
 
Strange to see Ghosts in a lot of the worst campaigns. The campaign was really good. The multi was boring.

Lol. I feel like the majority of COD players these days never experienced the atrocious COD3. Either that or you've all burned it out of your memory. It is by far the worst COD title. Big Red One was mediocre as well.
 
With the exception of MW1 and WaW I genuinely cant tell the rest of the campaigns from one another.

With the exception of CoD3 and Ghosts, I have played all of them. I liked all of them. But I honestly cant tell BO 1 apart from 2 or 3. Or MW2 from 3.
 
Cod3 was very underwhelming for its time. World at war too.

Cod campain in general are very straightforward and repetitive. The first and second were the best, then modern warfare awesome for its time. But then it just went downward.

I remember getting that for Christmas. I was like 13 or so and I remember putting it in my 360, playing it for a few minutes and then I think I cried a bit at how bad it was lol.

At least I had Rainbow Six Vegas and Splinter Cell Double Agent to turn to :D
 
Apologies for bumping such an old thread, but I'm just now in the process of playing through almost all the COD campaigns @ 4K, and as I'm nearing the end of BO2 I'm starting to get really nervous about BO3, based on this thread (I'm playing through the various sub-series in order).

So far I've done:

COD2 - fantastic, one of the definitive WW2 FPS
COD4 - utterly superb, many memorable levels
MW2 - decent, but as has been mentioned, too many Michael Bay moments
MW3 - also decent
BO - decent, some good levels, some duff ones. Notably harder because the weapons seem to kick a lot more (and I play with a Dualshock 4, and don't get the aim assist on PC)
BO2 - opposite to BO1; weapons have almost no kick at all! This is the first COD that has started to drag well before the end. Not sure why.

Overall, the two biggest things that bug me in general about the series (but perhaps more so with the Treyarch games) are:

1) Too many scripted cinematic sequences with QTEs. Moreover, they are QTEs that are sometimes eminently failable. There aren't many dumber things in videogames than cinematic sequences that you get to watch again...and again... because someone, somewhere, decided the player ought to have a modicum of input, even though that input isn't engaging or interesting in the slightest. Just play the damn movie, game, if that's what you want to do, then let me get back to the business of shooting people, please.

2) Too many sudden deaths from grenades and exploding cars.
 
Oh fuck, I think BO2 is the straw that broke the camel's back.

How can Treyarch, a company that seems to know as little about human beings as videogames make a living selling videogames to human beings? I don't get it.

People buy COD for fucking COD gameplay - NOT being in a truck, a VTOL, or whatever other vehicle you need to indulge your masturbatory film director fantasies.

Fuck you, Treyarch. Fuck you.
