Best Buy Wii U Preorders Up.

Wii-U has the least hype for a console launch I've ever seen. The general public barely has any knowledge it exists. I wouldn't worry about it being the same as the Wii in terms of availability.

Don't let the NeoGAF hype train distort you view of reality. You'd be fine lining up several hours in advance at a Wal-Mart on launch if you'd rather go that route.

Nintendo doesn't need to hype it yet, they'll wait till late october/early november and you'll see WiiU EVERYWHERE! Every talk show and game store will have demo units. By the time the 18th comes out it'll be insanity.

For some reason bestbuy reopened sold out stores for more orders. Hopefully Best Buy doesnt find itself in a situation where they overpromised

If they do, I feel bad for the folks who work at the stores.

.... and the rage I will unleash upon them.

And reseller's will be thankful come near Christmas time.

I managed to secure my preorder at EB Games though, just in time too. But yeah in regards to the Launch pick ups for preorders, I'll break it down for everyone.

Preorders are likely going to be cut off sometime soon as well from Best Buy, that can be certain, especially since there's no limit to the number that can be preordered by an individual (had 2 resellers actually preorder 3 each individually). And due to the Wii U launching the week of Black Friday and doubtful of any sign of an immediate shelf restock within that same week, unites will be put on definite hold JUST for black Friday, but this will likely be a universal retail thing because that's just how retail works. we might end up having more in the instore warehouse, but they probably wouldn't even key it into the system until day before black Friday, just to make it appeal, even in the inventory system, that we're out of stock.

To make a long story short: Even if you preorder, you still have about an 80% chance of getting one launch day, if anything we usually receive systems a week before launch, so although we are told never to give exact numbers for inventory, if you show proof of preorder, most of us Gaming associates are pretty chill and will usually pull up preorder totals for our store and match it up to hard counts.

To be fair, my original plan (before I had bombs dropped that I couldn't preorder because I work there) was to Preorder and still camp out 2 days prior. No kidding, I put in the time off request yesterday.
Because shipments are still unknown theres always the chance of over preordering, Might have 30 Preorders but only 20 units arrive, but way to guarantee and preorder and still camp out.

Instore pick up is usually prioritized, since they are paid infull. Best Buy wont start getting better in store preorder set ups until October. But I know that I've personally had to give up my Preorders for multiple collectors editions because it was already picked up for instore and there was a shortage, even though I preordered months and months in advanced, they usually kill off our employee preorders before regular customer preorders.

Hmmm... Yeah it seems like to be safe you at least need to get there kind of early the night of, just in case something goes wrong. Black Friday coming up is major thing concerning me, for multiple reasons honestly. Also, it seems likely to me that Nintendo would want retailers to reopen pre-orders for awhile whenever the actual advertisement campaign starts, therefore the general public can have a chance to secure some (if wanted).

Glad you secured yours though, now we wait.

If I buy using Paypal will i be charged Immediately as if i would with my debit for store pick up? They say charging with debit will be charged as the order is placed

My store showed as "unavailable for store pick up" but when I went into the store, there was still the option to preorder through the kiosk. I have an order through GameStop too but I am fairly sure I will get mine at Best Buy. I'll be there at opening just in case.

Preordered. Honestly not sure if I will keep it, but with Gamestop supposedly selling out of Deluxe preorders I figured I would rather be safe than sorry.

Actually went in a store near my job and pre-ordered on my lunch break. Put down $5 on a Premium model.

I actually wanted to put down more, but unfortunately, that wasn't an option. Ah, well!

I'm feeling wary of best buy's preorders.

It seems like they sold out of their initial estimate earlier, but I'm unsure if this reopen was that they underestimated initial shipments (or hadn't input all the quantities into the system yet) and allocated more stock, or someone from HQ got greedy from seeing the preorder numbers and started promising stock they weren't able to negotiate with yet.

This is just all my intuition, mind you. I could be entirely wrong.

Well, considering they were straight up canceling people's holiday orders last year... heh

I feel the same but about the wii u preorders in general. How can they be sure of their allotment more than two months before launch. Im guessing they are only making safe estimates.

Preordered from Best Buy. I'm not interested in any of the launch games but Xenoblade and Last Story in HD should be worth it.

I will flip it if they are scare though :p

Gotta fund my gaming habits somehow :). When the Wii U finally releases a Zelda, I'll be there.

Wii games don't get upressed. So Xenoblade and Last Story won't be in any more HD than they currently are on Wii.

Ironically I am looking forward to the marvelous 101 game. I am really curious to see how High this system will sale for to well off parents of the children or spouses that need the "it" item of the year. I can see this system selling for $2000 dollars easily on online auction sites.

This'll be the first system I don't get from Amazon since 2006. I guess I'll drop a pre-order here and see if Newegg gets something going down the line.

Wow. I just ordered with free shipping, and yep!, they charged the hell out of my card. Not cool. Not cool at all.

EDIT: Oh, it's just a "check." Whatever. Still an odd practice. I really hope that Amazon comes through for this system. This Nintendo/Amazon shit needs to end.
It's not odd at all, people. There are only two retailers I know of who don't charge or place holds until it ships.

Well, just placed 2 orders, one for delivery and one for pick-up, just in case. I figure I could always return one, flip it, or sell to an acquaintance that can't find one. I welcome Nintendo to HD gaming with open arms. It's the biggest reason I never bought a Wii.

Just randomly decided to revisit the page. "Sold Out Online" for both models. The two Best Buy stores closest to me are now unavailable for in-store pick-up. Glad I got my order in, I guess!

Are you supposed to get an email saying "Item not found in store" if you preordered for store pickup? Obviously the Wii U isn't going to be in the store right now but is my preorder still intact?

I didn't get an item not found at store email.

I placed my order on 9/13 and received confirmation email for my order (saying to wait to pick it up) at 9:59pm EST on 9/13

I preordered yesterday and all I've gotten so far is the order confirmation.

Also, does anyone else get a "Page Not Found" when they click on each SKU?

Here's the Toys R Us link in case someone's having trouble getting an order in.

Just an FYI for people who are forced to rely on this...

BE WARY of Toys R Us pre orders for anything that may be limited in quantity.

They are absolutely notorious for placing items on back-order for an indefinite amount of time and/or cancelling your orders (and not notifying you until after after release date).

I would recommend continually pursuing a pre-order as your TRU pre-order guarantees nothing

Debated about it.. then splurged on a the Deluxe from Bestbuy.ca. Thanks for the heads up. Funny thing that my Wife didn't even complain about the purchase. She was like "Well you didn't get the Wii". Awesome!

I placed my Best Buy online order (store pickup) probably about 15 minutes after they opened it up to preorders. If I don't get my hands on my console on the 18th I will be livid. I'm not able to be there at store opening, or for a midnight launch, or camp out, etc. I am an adult with children and responsibilities.

Just hope we pre-orderers don't get screwed over.

As others have said, the fact that they opened it up, sold out, then re-opened it up for many stores that had previously shown as unavailable is a tiny bit disconcerting.

I just went to my local BestBuy store and was able to get my hands on a pre-order. I was starting to worry that I might not be able to get it at launch giving that all the online pre-orders sites are all sold out.

Makes me wonder though how many people are buying it remembering what happened with the Wii or how many are buying it because they want to keep it.

Preordered at bestbuy. The cost was only $5 which the clerk said he thought was wrong but that's how it had been ringing up all morning. He also said pick up is 5 days before release. Which, I can only assume, is meaningless.

A little of both for me, but I don't intend to sell it. I want one for Monster Hunter in March and I'd be pretty angry at myself if I couldn't find one by then since the price won't drop in five months anyway. I would have bought later if I could guarantee finding one.

Now to figure out if getting the color I want is worth ditching the extras.

was the pre-order guaranteed day 1?

When I asked if this guaranteed me a system at launch, he told me yea. He said that they would hold a system for me for 5 days. That all I had to do was just show up at the store with my receipt, pay for the rest of the system and walk away with a Wii U ^_^
