Best free spyware removal tool?

Hey kids, so a pal of mine is looking for a spyware removal tool and I just found out that my spyware tool (pctools) is no longer offering products, although current members are still being supported. Can anyone recommend a good windows program for this? Please and thanks in advance.

Another method is to burn a bitdefender live cd, load it up and then scan the hard drive while booted into the live cd.

I haven't used antivirus or spyware detectors for about 3 years... Should I be?

I haven't had any issues and visit mostly the same sites over and over.

Those are the only 3 things I have installed to take care of garbage, and they do a spectacular job.

Yes you should. You never know when an ad might go rogue or when an exploit pops up in your favorite program.

I used just MSE forever and then it missed one little bugger that MAlBytes cleaned up. So now I just keep MSE running live, and if I ever have any hiccups I have MalBytes for backup.

I have not had to use MalBytes since that last time, years ago, so MSE is likely pretty safe on it's own for general surfing.

If you do lots of porn, torrents, streaming, pirating etc. better safe than sorry and load up the defenses.

Create new partition and reinstall Windows.

I use a combination of Spybot and Malwarebytes. Sometimes one finds something the other doesn't.

Just scan with both like once a month and you should be good.

I run a scan with Malwarebytes every few weeks and use Avast for day to day protection. Should I use MSE instead?

It sometimes gets stuff that MSE misses. In fact, Malwarebytes Pro is designed for use in conjunction with other antivirus programs.

For a while, Malwarebyres Pro was one of the few scanners that would detect Cryptolocker.

Looked up the website. Does it just go around giving away stuff or something? No strings attached besides downloading the client?

Hm. They're giving away ChicaLogic ChicaPC-Shield that seems to be a re-branded version of MalwareBytes , but it looks like the key somehow also works with MalwareBytes itself for some reason.

It seems likely that the website, and the "rebranded Malwarebytes", both contain spyware.

Definitely don't download anything from them. If you download the real Malwarebytes you can use the key, but it is possible they will blacklist it at some point (a month, a year, maybe never) and send you back to the free version.

Malwarebytes. Free version.

Super anti spyware. It finds Trojans that malware bytes sometimes doesn't. Stupid name. Amazing tool.

Thank you very much! You just made my day! As a college student I don't have a budget for things like this, but I think it's valuable to have this.

I think a real-time antivirus with an on-demand scanner is enough. I'm currently using Avast free and Malwarebytes free (just turned pro thank to TheWesker). I also have SUPERAntiSpyware Free and HitmanPro (both are on-demand scanners) just in case.
