Best Games Where You Play As Animals

13-dance2.gif

It's another thread in which I mention
Mother 3
.

Thank you for this thread! This is one of my favorite game types and I am always looking for some decent ones to try out.

Most of the examples in this thread are of anthropomorphised characters based on animals, a.k.a. furries.

Games with actual animals are the likes of Shelter (series), Goat Simulator, Tokyo Jungle and Escape Goat (for a fantasy take).

It's been said here before, but Space Station Silicon Valley really sparked my imagination as a kid playing it on N64. The variety of animals and how they all played differently and fit into their respective ecosystems within the space station was really impressive for the time.

That game made me super excited for Kameo for the Gamecube (eventually released as a 360 launch title), which I never actually ended up playing until 2015 with Rare Replay. That doesn't count for this thread because most of the animals aren't real, but really any game that lets you turn into different animals is just conceptually awesome.

Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel
Dust: An Elysian Tail
Ori and the Blind Forest
Armello
Yooka Laylee
World of Warcraft (Pandaren, Worgen, Tauren)

The list goes on and on...

Suspect it's been said, but just came by to post Okami.

In addition to its being one of my top 3 games of all time, it just does a fantastic job of putting you in the paws of a wolf. They nailed everything, from the movement, the interaction with people, all the way down to the little incidental animations (e.g., the way Ammy lies down and goes to sleep if people talk for too long).

Actually, this is probably the only game I've played that wholly worked at getting me invested in the animal mindset.

Lion King SNES or Megadrive

Banjo and Kazooie.

Ty Tasmanian devil

Any Winnie the pooh game

Tembo the badass elephant.

Armadillo Racing...Sega arcade game Edit:Namco I think

The Tell of Tales MMO where you would play as a deer, and had no chat to communicate with other people, one of my fondest gaming memory

Edit : It's called The Endless Forest

Not claiming that these games were good at ALL, but I used to love them. Maybe because when I was little I wanted to be a Marine Biologist when I grew up so this stuff interested me.

But I'm going to throw out Ecco the Dolphin. The Nostalgia for me with those games...

Edit: Had to Google this game and forgot that it's actually spelled "Ecco" not Echo, lol.

Star Fox Zero
Okami

I'd say okami is a better example of the two for this thread. You don't really do much with the fact that the cast is animals other than a one liner or two (same with 64).

Sorta kinda: Bayonetta has animal transformations in both games

The best little touch is if you draw a Blossom circle around an NPC they'll run over and pet you.
