LaneDS said:I could be completely wrong, but I remember seeing pictures of Totally Rad for the NES in a Nintendo Power a couple decades ago or so, and thinking it was an SNES game.
Google Image search didn't really help confirm or deny it looking awesome, and I remember renting the game and thinking it was pretty shitty.
Anyone have a similar recollection on this game?
Edit: The game in question

Shining Force 3 The Final Conflict
The map scenes are pretty pedestrian, but the battle scenes look almost on par with the Genesis ones.

Jado said:As far as NES games are concerned, Batman: Return of the Joker is a better looking game than Ninja Gaiden, SMB3, or the Mega Man games.
mariosbrother said:I agree with NES Kirby. Also, I distinctly remember Metal Storm looking really good.
monkspider said:Kirby Adventure I think is the definitive answer to this thread.
It is one of the few NES games that could easily pass as 16-bit. It is the only 8-bit game that I can recall that featured parallax scrolling, definitely a technical marvel for the time.
-edit Wonder Boy III is a great choice too.
Yup, that's the one. The mesmerizing moving backgrounds...LaneDS said:If I'm thinking of the right game (Irem 2D side scroller where you controlled a robot and could flip gravity), I was always impressed by it's graphics, especially the sprites and animation for the explosions.
What a great game that was.
Forgotten Ancient said:I think this should be changed to "what's the best looking NES games".
A small minority ever really experienced the 8-bit generation outside of the NES, yet by virtue of it being underpowered compared to SMS etal it's nearly disqualified from participating to begin with.

This thread isn't titled "Best looking 8-bit game." Instead of trying to derail a perfectly acceptable thread (and trip down memory lane), just post some pictures of games you thought looked good. Seriously. When you look back at this generation of handhelds, could you really say the DS didn't have any good looking games simply because the more powerful PSP existed?vitaflo said:I agree. No NES game should be in this thread if we're talking all 8-bit systems. It just didn't have the power compared to others.
Klotera said:If I remember correctly, didn't Ninja Gaiden III on the NES have parallax scrolling?
As does Totally Rad and Megaman 6.Jado said:The NES Batman game I posted about has parallax scrolling. Bucky O' Hare, another impressive-looking NES game, did as well.

Thinking about it, the SNES is also in the same situation since it does re-use the NES CPU...

No.

So I'm not the only one who played it? I actually sold it once and had to hunt high and low to get it back. I've now spent 150 euros combined on it.xir said:mr. gimmick was purdy cute...
