Man, Classic Vex is one sweet dude.
Everyone whines about Sonic having green eyes but honestly it was really Vector who got ruined. He's too short, fat and beefy now. He looks like a boss when all tall like that with the walkman.

I really liked MGS5's running animation. Both the jogging and sprinting animations are great, especially the sound feedback. Feels very satisfying just to run around.

Show us some others that are superior. If you're going to devalue the opinion of many people here by alluding to the fact that MGSV gets praise for solely being an MGS game, you should be able to provide proof that bias is in fact the driving motivation of these people.

AFAIK, the animations in Shadow of the Colossus are physics based. That's why they look awkward.

yup, MGSV's is the best, at least until you get that sprinting upgrade, then it looks really unnatural. the base game doesn't let you disable those upgrades either, had to use a mod on pc to get the sprint speed back to default

Been trying the past few minutes to get OBS to run to record some of these but all I get is a black screen.
MGS5's running animation looks as common as any other 3D game, don't see the big deal with it.

FFXV has the most realistic running and walking animations by far, the animation blending is the best I have seen due to how seamless it is and how it works with different elevations. Plus the way momentum seems to come into play when you change directions is something you don't find in most other games. Noctis would bend and touch the ground while changing direction at high speed.

I'm guessing why that run is so awkward is that there is one run animation between the female and male rigs in Mass Effect 3. It's probably why fem shep has such a wide stance in that run.
Being an animator on games I've found half the battle of good game animation (especially 3D) is good tech. It's something I've been struggling with having the limited tech animator knowledge I have.
Like it doesn't matter how good of an animation it is if it doesn't play right in the animation controller. Which is why MGSV, The Order 1886, Uncharted, FFXV, Assassin's Creed, ect.. all have some of the best animation controllers bar none.
The olympics are on, you should try to catch some of the track and field. You'll see what's so great about MGSV. Snake has absolutely the best running form in video games. Looks incredibly natural.

Make sure your sources in OBS are setup as GAME and that the correct executable is selected. Also use preview before you start recording. If you get the black screen in your preview, your output will show the same. Previewing saves you the time and storage while troubleshooting.
I think a big definer of MGS5 is the number of frames in the running animation. It gives it a fluidity that goes well with the accurate animation. The above mentioned have great animations, no doubt about it, but lack in the fluidity department as far as I'm concerned.
Perhaps I am missing something you are trying to explain, however, so hopefully you get your OBS setup working correctly as I would like to see it.

Probably the very first game I ever played where the running animation made me go "Whoa, that looks awesome." It was just fluid/lifelike comapred to what other games animations were usually at that time.

One good run that's cool is Stranger's in Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath, really liked when he gets on all fours and runs forward.
