Bethesda E3 Showcase, June 12th, 7:00 PM

I think TES VI could pretty much be teased at the end of the show. I would not rule that out AT ALL.

I don't know, man. I'd love a new mainline Elder Scrolls, but it's just a few months since Fallout 4. And if they'd announce TES6 in June, I assume they'd want to release it the same year. And since Fallout 4 has just released, that would be very very wishful thinking. Including a simple tease.

It hasn't?

Wow, Skyrim released a lot longer ago then I remembered. Bethesda sticks pretty hard to three/four years between games based on previous release schedules. I would expect ES VI in 2018 probably as a cross platform game on the new consoles.

As far as I know, Battlecry wasn't cancelled, the last news we heard about it was they had 'concerns' about it.

Well, they laid off a substantial part of the studio around the same time: http://theamericangenius.com/busine...s-lays-off-unknown-number-of-staff-in-austin/

So besides Square Enix potentially moving to Monday morning (after Microsoft), we should probably expect more of the same from the rest (A Microsoft press conference on Monday morning, a Sony press conference on Monday night, a Nintendo Digital Event on Tuesday morning, etc.).
I do think it makes sense to move given the openings. Tuesday is kind of an awkward day for conferences as it is given the show floor opens that day.

Sony ended up moving over to Monday way back when due to this.

Nintendo's event is digital so it's a bit different.

On-topic, why's everyone hoping for Elder Scrolls VI? Didn't we just get Fallout 4 from the main team?
And yes expecting The Elder Scrolls VI is insane.

Yeah, I expect Fallout 4 DLC from them, definitely not TESVI.

11/11/11.

I think it's less because Nintendo does a Digital Event & more because said Digital Events occupy less time (about an hour, give or take) with the Treehouse Live stream going up immediately afterwards.

Which reminds me, are Bethesda's press conferences on-par with the others in terms of length (about 2 hours or so)?

Theirs was 1:15, so about on par with the other third parties.

Console vendors sometimes take a bit longer, but they're getting closer to that timeframe as well.

The vast, vast majority of it was spent showing around 50-60 minutes of footage split between Doom and Fallout 4, with a few quick announcements of other things, since they have a lot less games than most other third party publishers who bother to hold a conference.

They could still say it's in development but launching in 2017. Not quite their style, but it would be THE show stopper.

However, that's indeed wishful thinking. They have enough content for a solid presentation without TES atm so it will all depend on whether if they want to have a solid showing or a mind-blowing one.

With the exception of EA's move, the press conferences largely haven't changed in about half a decade.

Yeah, the only thing I can physically see is Square Enix moving to Monday afternoon in EA's former slot. They ran extremely close to Nintendo last year, and even had to move their conference once because they were originally slotted at the same time as Nintendo. I think Monday afternoon makes more sense for them.

Nintendo will most likely hold something Sunday afternoon between EA and Bethesda. Possibly another Nintendo World Championship, or some sort of other Tournament.

If DOOM is spring, hopefully it's out before the showcase rather than getting a release date during the show.

This is surprising, I guess they feel confident with their 2016/first half of 2017 line-up. I thought that this would be a every-two-year thing, to show off their slate and then release those games and come back with the new stuff. I guess there's more new stuff incoming.

Their internal studios are:

Bethesda Game Studios (Last game released November 2015): Elder Scrolls, Fallout
Battlecry (Last game recently canceled): Battlecry (Canceled)
Machinegames (Last game released May 2014): Wolfenstein
id Software (Next game releasing this Spring): Doom
Tango (Last game released October 2014): The Evil Within
ZeniMax Online Studios (Releases quarterly DLC packs): The Elder Scrolls Online
Arkane Lyon (Next game targeted for 2016): Dishonored 2
Arkane Austin (Last game 2012): Prey 2

Active partner studio:
Dire Wolf Digital (Next game was supposed to be out last year): The Elder Scrolls: Legends

Wow they have alot more studios then I thought.

Guess it's time for Prey 2 and a big reveal on Dishonored 2? Is that even slated for 2016? I can see them going all out on that one and trying to position it in a Fallout 4 type spotlight. I can see Tango and Machine having teases ready for new games too.

Anyways, last year's show was pretty great so I'm all for them returning. Still curious to see if anyone steps up and fills EA's Monday spot.

So basically it's just a glorified demonstration for their big games of the respective year with a few announcements sprinkled in. But wouldn't Bethesda doing press conferences more indicate that they're growing as a publisher to get close to the likes of EA & Square Enix? And what of Konami? You'd think after the entire company went to shit that they'd drop their press conference slot.

If it was Spring waiting until this to announce a release date would be way too late, they would only have 8 days or so.

Is there any reason that they wouldn't do another Fallout based on 4 like did with 3 and New Vegas? Seems like it would be cheaper the second time around and make a lot of money for them. I'm sure there are plenty of devs that would love to do it.

Konami will almost assuredly not have anything resembling a press conference.

Bethesda is growing, yes, which is why they're bothering to hold press conferences now.

Beyond this, direct marketing has become a lot more popular than press-based marketing among publishers, so we see several companies adopting this model that wouldn't have considered it in the past. I wouldn't be shocked if we see other publishers take up a live-streamed event of some sort rather than relying on the press to hype their games. Square Enix and Bethesda only started holding press conferences of this nature last year.

Looking forward to Dishonored 2! Didn't much care for Wolfenstein TNO so I'm meh on a sequel. Heard good things about new Doom.

I can't get excited for another Bethesda game on Gamebryo after being really disappointed by Fallout 4. They need to up their game for new Elder Scrolls..

So something more akin to Nintendo's Digital Events?

Skyrim on PS4one with mod support. That's my bold prediction.

They'll probably also show off their mod workshop interface for Fallout 4 on consoles.

Yes, this type of thing is more common now.

You see Square Enix hosting their own conferences along with events like the Final Fantasy ATRs and other NicoNico streams for their Japanese games.

Ubisoft frequently runs Twitch events now and even hosted a Rainbow Six Days specific event.

Blizzard hosts livestreamed events throughout the year.

EA tends to have a multitude of events at every convention (especially in the Summer), and then has their development teams host streams to show off their games.

Sony similarly has decided to set up with at least three conferences per year and I wouldn't be shocked if they start peppering in more digital-only showings.

It's actually probably shorter to list the major publishers who don't do this these days than the ones who do.

Most aren't platform vendors however so they don't have a ton of third party games to show.

This is before we get into publishers often preferring to hand off showing their games to streamers rather than the press at this point.

The only thing I can think would be exciting would be a remastered Skyrim on new consoles with added mod support... but even that doesn't seem enough to fulfill my expectations for an entire conference

Wow I didn't expect this at all. I was kinda disappointed by Fallout 4 so hopefully we won't see TES VI so soon.

We'll definitely see a lot of Dishonored 2 but what else? Quake Reboot? Prey 2?

Any chance Warner Bros. takes EA's old spot? They have a lot of content these days, and I don't think they actively have a disinterest in these press conferences like Activision and Take-Two have.

I suspect they're considering it long term, but I don't think they have enough content this year to do it.

Pretty much all their major studios and partner studios just launched a game.

I would expect Square Enix or maybe even someone like Bandai Namco to show up there before Warner for this year.

If they announce TES:VI, I am going to lose my fucking shit.

I also expect some announcement of an HD collection of past Elder Scrolls games. Maybe even one of Fallout 3 and NV.

I keep waiting for Activision Blizzard, Take Two, and or Bandai Namco to jump in with a conference of some nature. I'd like to see smaller localization companies, like XSEED, NISA, Idea Factory International, Aksys, etc. do something, but they usually hold smaller press events randomly throughout the year.

They could also be publishing some games from third party independent studios.

They published a few last gen and none this gen so far

My prediction:

- Fallout DLC
- Dishonored 2
- Doom
- ESO-related stuff
- Other minor announcements

ES6 won't be happening. Certainly not this year.

Whaaaaaaaat? Again this year?

Elder Scroll VI?

No chance. Which makes me horrified at the thought of how many people will be expecting the announcement, leaving disappointed and furious about it.

FO4 DLC. Big ESO DLC (since the smaller Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood DLCs will be out by then). Big gameplay blowouts for Dishonored 2 and Doom 4. Presumably a Prey 2 announcement, and potentially whatever Tango and MachineGames are up to.

Definitely no TES6: Redguard yet though. Please don't hype yourselves up for that.

I hope it's in Hammerfell.

It is. But it's not releasing before 2018 at the earliest. Bethesda don't announce their big games more than a year before release, so it's not happening at E3 this year.

I hope the people saying ES6 aren't getting their hopes up, there is no way they could show anything substantial at the conference.

I don't think Activision Blizzard is likely to do so because the game volume is so small on the Activision side and the Blizzard side prefers to host events at more community oriented conferences like PAX, Gamescom, Blizzcon, and other events of their own creation (like the Hearthstone Tavern) instead.

I mean even EA wanted that community focus which is why they set up a free event outside of E3 that takes place at the same time instead. Blizzard is a PC-first company though and E3 is overwhelmingly a console event.

Take-Two could probably go back to hosting conferences, but I imagine their endless cavalcade of delays is what is holding them back, giving them a similar volume issue to Activision.

And yeah, for the smaller publishers, a lot of them prefer to try to sneak their games into the big conferences if possible since they're not going to pull much attention at E3 as standalones, or otherwise host their events during a dead announcement season.
