Bethesda's "Mature" Wii Game Is Wheelspin

I find it funny that they would even consider this to be something that Wii owner would be drooling over. I think it's pretty safe to say at this point that the Wii is just not taken seriously by anyone. Heh, heh. Pretty funny when you think about it.

Those "shitty" screens looked wonderful to me! Maybe those awesome fizzle screen blurred my vision.

The JPEG artifacts mask the game's true beauty. It's been a while since I've played it, but I remember that it looked stunning in motion. 60fps to boot.

The game actually looks like a blast from the videos. Damn, gaf are such graphic whores.
It definitely looks like more fun than those first two screen shots would make you think. Like they tried to copy F-Zero. Except it's not as fast. And not as gorgeous. And the music isn't as good. And the track design isn't as crazy/awesome.

We need more ands please.

Man watching this after playing Wipeout HD is like a flash back to when I first got my Diamond 3dFX card for my Pentium :lol

I don't get how FZero GCN, a game that I love, looks so much better than this. I also find it sad that there is really zero sense of style to this game. Everything looks so amateurish, like the hud looks like a temporary hud before they dropped the real one in ...

Looks more like proof of concept than anything else. If it's not, then the developers are going to have to pull some mad Houdini shit to get this game up to snuff.

I don't remember Gamecube games looking this bad so often as seems to be the case on Wii.

Did Nintendo inadvertently introduce some bottleneck into the system that's f-ing everything up, or is it purely because developers couldn't give a shit?

It can't be a bottleneck, else how could it run Gamecube games properly? But I know what you mean, the average Gamecube game looks better than probably 80% of the Wii library.

I'm rather sure Nintendo holds the final word regarding a new entry in the series, not whoever develops it. Therefore, you didn't fix anything. Good day, sir.

I don't see what's so funny about it. You have a bunch of developers, through short sightedness and pride, basically killing themselves business wise.

:lol

Though I never liked Bethesda's games, I held them as a decent RPG developer that knows what they are doing, but this thread and this decision just takes the cake and proves my statement again:

This generation will go down in history to show the game industry is a lot more childish (stupid decisions and biases) than other industries...wow.
This goes for both sides.

At least they can say they took a chance on the Wii.

what is this I don't even
A crappy looking (no clue if the game itself is bad) game that will likely bomb.

Further fueling my theory that many western devs send Wii games out to die so they can point to them when their shareholders demand to know why they're bleeding money when the biggest console in the generation is right there.

And they're from a shitty game.

Well, if you're talking about the "story" mode, then yes, it was a shitty game. Controls and track design were pretty good though, but the objectives were poorly designed to be pathetically difficult.

Anyway, yeah, I still don't see how this is a mature game in any sense. It's not even a "mature" racer (I dunno, Burnout, GT, Forza, and Wipeout seem more "mature" to me).

I'd still like to see how it plays though :lol I mean, it LOOKS pretty bargin-bin to me, but, if somebody I knew had it, I'd like to try it just to see why Bethesda decided to pull this.

Wow, and I thought Wii owners were the champions of "gameplay over graphics". Game might be fun guys.
It's Besthesda...wow. If it were another game that was trying something different while keeping a decent manageable artstyle then yea...but...

I thought Mercury Madness was generally well-liked.

I think it looks fun. Ugly? Sure...But there were a couple tracks in the videos that looked fun, and the backgrounds aren't all that bad, if you don't focus on the worst screenshots available....i do wonder what they were thinking with the cars, but alternate camera views could help with that.

Might give it a rent if I see it.

EDIT: Also, on the boxart I'm seeing Detn8, and I assume this is the developer, so why do people keep bashing bethesda? Just because they're publishing it in some territories?

"push the hardware further than any other Wii racing game to date.”

Nirolak said:

THAT'S pushing the Wii to its limits. At least now we know that the Wii's graphical limits is N64 quality. Now we can all stop fooling ourselves it'll eventually look as good as the gamecube. PHEW!

I know sarcasm is your thing and all, but its just terrible to even joke like that.

OTOH though Fzero GX gets a bit to much praise for its looks. It wasnt anywhere near the prettiest game on the system, alot of the geometry and texture work seemed really bad, but at 60fps blazing by it all you really didnt get a good look at how simplified everything was in order to maintain that framerate.

The fzero on N64 was the same way for its time. In motion your just moving to damn fast to notice the plain textures and low poly backgrounds.

Both of them are great games though.
