Better place to live with public transportation, Philly or Pittsburgh?

Hello GAF! I'm looking to move sometime in summer, at the moment aiming for August, and am currently stuck between whether to go to Philadelphia or Pittsburgh (currently already a PA resident). I don't drive, so public transportation (and/or places easily accessible via walking or even biking) for me is a big factor in where I want to end up. I've already found homes and employment opportunities in each city that I will end up inquiring on once I make my decision. Right now the only thing I'm unsure of is how commuting via public transportation or on-foot is, and which city it would be a better option for.

The Philly public transit is fine as long as they aren't on strike (which seems to happen every year). They finally have a card option instead of needing to use tokens!

Strikes aren't common, and there are multiple public transportation unions in the city. When the buses and the El went on strike for instance, regional rail was unaffected.

...tokens? Like, actual coins minted for the Philly transit system?

I've never been to Philadelphia, but Pittsburgh doesn't have too much in the way of public transit.

That said, PittsburghGAF would love to have you join our ranks! Depending on where you need to go, the bus should be a feasible option.

Been in Pittsburgh for a few years. It's minimal at best. The subway is good for very little of the city - but it's free for a few stops. The bus transport isn't wonderful - it's kinda archaic but it does the job!

The city will eventually get better with the planned "rapid bus transport"
