Beyond Good & Evil 2 Screens! More importantly: TRAILER!

If the game looks anywhere near that... holy fucking shit, Ubisoft has won next-gen. My goodness... the gfx whore in me just blew a massive load.

WOW this game is fun! I love having Pey'J do his little butt stomp and then aiming the jellies at things.

There's no reason to believe Ubisoft can't do that in real time. Their games are some of the best looking this gen. Assassin's Creed is in the top two.

I may not be the frothing advocate that some of those here on GAF are but I must admit to being quite the fan of the first game. The gameplay was basically Zelda but allowed to streach out and breath in a fun new environment and with better characters and storyline.

As for the trailer I found it did a much better job compared to most game trailers in setting a "tone" that they are aiming for with the game. And since I like Ancel and the tone that they are aiming for I'm all aboard on this for now.

Seems as good a time as any to bring back Jaded Alyx's Beyond Good and Evil music thread.

Wasn't BG&E most well-known on the GameCube? It would be ironic that they move more toward the 360 than the Wii.

I would like to know how the original stacks up sales wise when comparing the PS2/Xbox/GCN/PC versions.

At any rate, Ubisoft would not want to release quality software on the Wii when they could just release games like My Word Coach, old ports and underdeveloped mini-game compilations. And then complain that the Wii isn't making them enough money. I wonder why.

To those who said the Wii control would force them to use a gimmick control scheme: BAH. Reviewers might get their underoos in a bunch over it, but they could use a simple nun+mote, or classic/GCN controller scheme and call it good.

Wow the game looks amazing.

That's 100% not CG. Just look at the screens and you can see some low res textures here and there(The road especially) and aliasing.

Important post.

I don't want people overblowing this and backlashing unnecessarily.

But damn if I don't want to dig out my o.g. Xbox and play this again.
Requoted for emphasis. You can still make a pre-rendered trailer using the game engine, and therefore try to do a lot more stuff that would normally slow the framerate to a crawl.

Regardless, it was a nice trailer.

You can make bad CG y'know? Not everyone has Pixar quality staff at hand to produce a promo.
The environment could've been cooked up in the last couple of weeks since Ancel made their work public.

It actually sold the least on the Gamecube of the console versions, not sure about the PC (it probably did better on GC than that).

To anyone bitching that this isn't on Wii... Look, this game wasn't greenlit the time we first got info on it. I think Ancel's making it the way he wants to. If that means he wanted it to be on the PS360, then that means it'll be a better game because it's the way he wanted to make it. My only concerns are that it looks decidedly NOT like Beyond Good & Evil right now, but we've seen nothing but a sliver of the game. I have faith Ancel will deliver, and you should too.

Wasn't soul calibur also more popular on the gamecube.? Look whats happening there too. It's unfortunate but I really think people should stop expecting publishers to throw their bigger projects on the wii because it's leading. It doesn't always work like that, anyway i'm sure if ubi could easily have done it they would have included the wii.

Look, I haven't even played the first one yet but I know what it is to love a game.

I also know that true fans (for the lack of a better term) of a game that hardly would have a sequel released to begin with wouldn't be complaining about the platform it's going to.

Yeah, I'm not crazy about the art style compared to the original.

Is it known who's making the soundtrack for the game?
If it's not Christophe Heral, that would be a huge letdown.

For now, it's only Pey'j, so we don't know what everything else looks like. I'm more surprised at the car in the desert. Either this game's gonna be a lot bigger than the last, or they're going to make it into Jak 3. Fortunately the latter won't happen because Ancel isn't a fucking hack.

Trailer & screens look great!

I really have to get around to playing the first one. Well, I will definitely beat it before this is out, and am looking forward to it.

The footage looks in game to me, with the low polygon models, only impressive thing visually (besides the subtle motion blur) was how nice it all fit together, this is like the complete opposite of the feeling i got from those Prince of Persia screens, which have characters that look horribly out of place against the backgrounds.

I might be totally off on this (and I probably am) but I think that lots of times people interpret stylized graphics as an asthetic choice of the game maker, when they are often a choice foisted on developers from technical limitations. Given the degree of control I assume that Ancel would have over the art look of his games the "new" look might very well be his original vision for the characters while the more stylized graphics from the original BG&E were an artifact of last generation graphics technology.

But as you said, this is all so early that speculation is pretty useless at this point and I very much trust Ancel so I'm not worried about the art direction.

I dunno. Jade was REALLY stylized in the earliest shots of the first one.

gee guys. i'll tell you what it is now but you'll still argue about it for another couple of pages i'm sure. spruced up in-game assets with tons of post processing effects, 32x AA, better lighting, shaders etc. we've been through this so many times... that's how must cut-scenes work this gen. instead of full on cg they pre-render using (spruced up) in-game assets and add tons of post fx and shit. of course you'll find polygonal edges and not-so-high res textures. the game's not gonna look exactly like this. NO.

now move on... it's beyond good & evil 2. OMG

I still can't believe I haven't played the first game.

Which version is the preferred one? Cube, Xbox or PS2? (Did it come out on PS2?) I'll have to pick up a copy. I've seen a few around.

Seriously. I'm just stoked that this is in production. The internet dickwads that are trashing this trailer without seeing an ounce of gameplay are unbelievable.

No, this is real time, it's simply obvious. You don't need a crazy CG team to make clean high res textures whatsoever, nor to remove aliasing. Those both fall under technical things and can easily be done by amateurs. Look at those screens, it screams real-time, even though it looks CG like in motion.

I remember the same things were being said when the FFXIII trailer first came and a bunch of people said it was CG. If you looked at the screens it was clearly obvious it was real-time, even though the game looked down right amazing and CG like in motion.

Probably Xbox. I played it on the PS2 and thought it was great though, so pretty much any system you can get it for would be fine.

Let me add myself to the list.

What the fuck happened to the bright, beautiful world covered in water from the last game?

That said, Hell has frozen over.

Bring on Timesplitters 4.
