BF1 Battlepacks, something has to change.

This is an even bigger problem in Call of Duty, where you have new guns and stat boosts on these boxes. And they also have a $50 season pass!

It's a shitty business model, but remember that it's skins.

for some reason i remembered seeing the type of skin on the weapon used pop up in the kill feed. is that just for the weapon you are using, or was it for enemies as well at one time? im confused...

At least they aren't random weapons.
This is MUCH better. Just skins with no stat bonuses.
Randomly dropped guns would just encourage people to buy those boxes and encourage p2w

Sounds similar to Rocket League or Overwatch, ie slowly unlock cosmetic stuff, or pay a bit to get cool items quicker.

I got no problem with this whatsoever. Cosmetic stuff is fluff, it's not important, i'm not being locked out of content because I don't pay. Developers get a bit of money from suckers who want to 'look good', and that's fine, mutually beneficial.

I despise a lot of modern gaming practices, I hate the Call of Duty model of 1 year of game focus + expansions, I hate season passes, I think it's all too much, too soon, and fractures communities. It's though enough to convince friends to buy a game and play together, but if they have to buy the game AND expansion packs or season passes, and it's only good for 1 year, screw that. That's a tough sell. Cosmetic items don't cause any fractures in the community.

BF1s weapon crate system is crap but i dont care because the skins are completely unnoticeable anyway.

Its standard unlock system is much better than previous games. As someone who doesnt play these games all the time i have already unlocked all i need for every class to be playable. And my main class (support) i have the guns i want (bar trench and telescopic).

I have maybe 15 hours in the mp.

I would hate the crate system if the cosmetics were any good simply because i hate RNG stuff like that. Titanfall 2 is doing it right. Free dlc and they will add pay for skins in addition to all the in game unlockable ones. With how expensive it is to make games i have no issue with using skins to make more money as long as its not random. I want to buy the one i want not risk my money. This is why i dont like overwatches system.

It's just skins, so at least you can ignore them, just like the stupid medal system.

Would prefer having to unlock skins with headshots or something, so they'd be worth showing off a bit.

Also, how are the puzzles supposed to work? There are two puzzles for me and even if I scrap all pieces they won't go away. Can't I get another puzzle before finishing whatever two puzzles the game decided I'd start with? Do different Battlepack revisions contain different puzzle pieces? I don't get it.

after many hours I have bloody loads of them, amount of duplicates of got rid of and using the scrap to buy the 900 packs is madness.
Hell I get to scrap the "puzzle" parts now as their all done.
But then it is all pure RNG, I just been lucky, I've got friends who have been screwed since launch as well.

Another option would be to remove RNG and simply go the way of overwatch with battlepacks per a level or per class level.
Yes please.

That being said I'm happy that bf1 is not the bloated mess with 150 attachment per weapon to unlock that modern bf had become.

You already spent $120 on the game. What's a couple more bucks?

I didn't and now I wont. I won't buy the season pass. I refuse to buy DLC that segments the player base in MP games. Especially in this case where they have the ability to supplement the cost heavily or get rid of it if they do cosmetic DLC right going forward.

If they could have realistically added that mechanic I think they would have done haha

In WW1 the guns didn't even function properly let alone have attachments further than 'new sights' or 'bayonet'

I love the way BF1 handles Battlepacks. The way they are obtained is pathetic and the content of them is so meaningless that I didn't give a fuck from the minute I started playing. It's like the old slot machine in the corner by the bathroom behind a plant.

Opened the 5 I got from pre-ordering the game and saw they were all weapon skins. Haven't cared since. I just play the game.

Meanwhile in Overwatch I buy Lootboxes all the time..and I have no problem with it.
The skins, emotes, sprays, highlights are easy to enjoy in the game. They are worth collecting. It's like the brand new slot machine that's jibbering and jabbering at you when you enter the casino lobby. It gives you that gambler rush when holding down X.

The battlepacks just disguise how little of customization this game has.

I honestly miss the old medals and ginormous unlockables and amount of weapons in Battlefield 4. Sure Bf1 has good gameplay, but hasn't really hooked me like old Battlefields. Hoping the next one is BF 5 (modern with tons of weapons) then maybe WW2.
It honestly fascinates me how people like this need the carrot and stick to continue with a game

Same with Gears 4. Bad unlock system somehow makes it a bad game.

You guys are weird

Battlepacks hit their optimal in Hardline. XP boosts for modes and classes.

BF1's Battlepacks are dumb. I have like a dozen that are unopened because there's just no point. I couldn't care less about weapon skins.

This! Absolutely! Give me something more than just weapon skins. Who gives a crap.

BF1 is potentially one of the best FPS ever made - and I dont even like FPS - but weapons skins are just totally pointless.

I'm with you man.
When I was able to unlock all the grenades with a few warbonds I stopped caring about levels and unlocks.

Don't need any of that shit anymore. In BF3 I used to run around like a fucking jerk throwing C4 at people trying to get some kind of assignment completed.

I couldn't care less about skins. I unlock boxes and that's it.

One quick question: I thought you could save battlepacks until skins came around that you actually wanted but that's not the case as they are numbered per revision?

An option to specifically pay for the skin you want instead of getting something random would be good. Albeit obviously they should be more expensive than the random crates you open since it wouldn't be randomized.

Pumped more hours into Halo CE than any other shooter, the carrot? it was a bloody good game and that's all they need.

I agree, weird.

If you guys read the OP you would see its much less about cosmetics or the carrot than about the dislike of a burgeoning amount of revenue seeking behaviors from companies. But in his case I know they aren't going to follow the trend of getting rid of priced season passes in exchange for longevity, player numbers and microtransactions funding. So at the very least we shouldn't keep getting screwed on the microtransaction crap as well.

It's more of a, you're doing too much. Tone it back somewhere EA. Give us at least this.

Just saw this on reddit:

OP, go find this guy and you can stop crying about drop rates.

erm BF1 has paid for cosmetics and a $60 season pass

I thought the same, but the influx of new players to the series seem to care a lot. I am guessing COD players?

Ugh. Long time BF player here and just some customization would be cool.
Especially when even BF4 and BF3 did it better and werent the greatest also. It just a huge step down and DICE needs to know it.

The good thing about this is I dont play Battlefield for the unlocks I play it for the fun. Which means I play it much less than BLOPS3. I mean I even spent extra money on COD points. It was worth it with amount of hours I played and the things you got with it.

Dice dont really know how to make that side of the game at all.

It's just skins for guns tho. When do you ever see that?

I agree that the blind box system sucks but in this case I really don't care.

They copied fucking Overwatch of all games and did it even worse.

It's kind of a blessing that the skins suck so none of it really even matters.

I'd like for them to add new player models, vehicle skins and additions, there's things like flare colors, ammo pouches, bandoliers etc. Then as someone else stated weapon accouterments that could add a little flare to customization. My hope would be though that it would replace the need for community fracturing DLC If they did it right. Instead I feel like they would just do both, because they can.

People like rewards, people like rewards better if they can actually use them.

I think the battle packs are dolled out too/so slowly because of the low number of items you can actually win.

Personally I think they need to offer more items at a quicker clip. And as Aztechnology stated, give us more items that we can customize.

Oh and this trend of giving out duplicates has got to stop!

"But they're just skins" in a game you paid full price for that are already in the goddamn game files. It's content that adds to the game. Saying "they're just skins" is a bullshit cop out. It is the equivalent of saying "this doesn't bother me so you shouldn't care either".

The larger problem is that despite how long it takes to randomly earn something, pretty much every skin I've seen fuckin sucks and the game doesn't have first person kill cams to show them off anyways.

I don't agree about some customization. I just don't get too excited about if my gun is brown, black, or rainbow colored.

I actually find some of the weapon skins to be the best i've seen in a mp game.

Some of them are crap, but the good ones are full of decorations and details that actually fit the weapon and dont make it look like a clown toy.

If they want to sell them, fine, but then make the future maps free so that they dont fragment the community.

Im pretty sure its easy to recognize some of the skins (like this one for example) in game even if they dont zoom in during the kill cam:

Also, if you dont see it while you use it you may be blind, considering that the weapon is constantly "on your face" :P

Exactly. The weapon skins when done right with the ornamentation and such versus rainbows spray paint is a welcome change. I'm sure we'll have awesome new customization options that will be impossible to get later. But there's no reason it can't make the community whole in the process. As it stands it will be a relatively small fraction of the user base that continues on into the DLC due to prohibitive pricing.

When someone kills me with a Warhorse BAR I'm OK with it as I know they have good taste.

I love my BAR.

Being as they are just skins I could care less. Now if it was like BF4 battlepack system then I would be furious.

Doesn't bother me really. I've got a couple of good skins that I like, but the vast majority were for guns I'll never use or, bizarrely, were barely any different from the default skin.

I've got a nice gold/copper one for my Automatico and a jungle style one for my Model 10. Still haven't got one for the Hellreigel yet.

I find the skins pointless, nobody can see them except for yourself and at a bad angle, at least in CoD your victim can see it on killcam.

If this how they wanna MT the game I am ok with it.

Better than BF4 putting gameplay stuff behind MT RNG.

So? I said I'm against season passes, I think they are overpriced, and there should be maximum of one per year and it should be at most $30. Just because I don't mind BF1's battlepack system, doesn't mean I love everything about it.

Paid for cosmetics? I don't care. If I can unlock some/most for free, I don't care about the exclusive high end gear you need to pay for. It's just cosmetic. Kinda like rocket leagues system.
